Hokusa’s The Great Wave is one the the most famous works of art in the world and is probably the most iconic Japanese artwork. The painting depicts a big wave that is about to crash down on three boats and their crews. Katshushika Hokusai is the creator of this print who was about 70 years old at the time. This painting was created when Japanese trade was heavily restricted. But despite this, thousands of copies were made and were sold at very cheap prices. The Great Wave was a part of Hokusai Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji, which he made between 1830-1833.
