The puritans abide by the “Old Testament injunction” which was exampled in our Hollitz Textbook. This was a traditional English custom “authority within the household in the hands of the husband and Father.”(page22) Though the father was the ruler of the household the mother had an enormous part of the development of the children. However, the neighbors and community also played a role in the upbringing. The children are to be well-behaved as this was a reflection on the parents. The punishments would go as far as physical punishment and religion punishment. The spiritual path the children are to launch is to be taken and accepted. Everyone aspect of their lives relied on religion and would be considered a sin if their path was broken. The
