The beginning of the 20th century was a very big deal for the world. It was a great time for optimism. Science is on the rise, they thought that science can make the world a better place with no sick, no starving and no environmental issues. However our hope for the 20th century crashed when World War I hit in 1914. Sadly that was only the beginning not too long after World War II broke out resulting in the most us to ever take place all all at once. Soon everyone was questioning what went wrong. T.S. Elliott took it into his hands to answer the peoples questions.

T.S. Elliott wrote a poem entitled "Hollow Men". He poem by saying "We are the hollow men, We are the stuff Men". T.S. Elliot used the pronoun we in order to imply that everyone including himself are the hollow men. We showed that no one excapes this critique.he then goes into comparing us to scarecrows. He says that we're stuffed, that we look alive, but …show more content…
Elliot also addresses the subject of speech. He questions whether we really say something important or not. He says her words no longer have meaning. He compares are talking to a dry seller with rats running on glass. He says that everything has lost its meaning in life.He realizes that we haven't really accomplished anything. He then makes the word picture asking us what will we do if we sat down with our great great great great-grandmother and told her that our life was hard. He says that are great great great grandmother would probably be upset that we said something like that after all the things they've done to get us this far, to make our lives easier. He asked if you died would you be ready to see your grandmother's eyes the first thing you see would be her eyes filled with discussed questioning you had all this time to do something and this is all you've done. He questions once you die are you really ready to see those eyes.T.S. Elliott says he doesn't want to die because he never wants to see those eyes. He doesn't want to feel

When He Was Bad

...“It doesn‟t have to be complicated. You and me and a mutual attraction. It doesn‟t come much simpler than that.” “Good times—is that all you‟re about?” Ellie shook her head. “Of course you are. Men like you always are.” “Men like me?” “Arrogant, ego as wide as the blue Aussie sky. Always looking out for number one.” Matt studied her. The telltale blush, the sparkle in those eyes, the way her fingers played over the back of the chair. “You‟re a contradiction, do you realize that? You say you don‟t want complicated, yet you‟re rejecting simple. What do you want, Ellie Rose?” Her mouth tightened and she swept to the door, yanked it open. Then she turned and glared back at him. “With you, Matt McGregor? Nothing. I just want to be left alone.” When not teaching or writing, ANNE OLIVER loves nothing more than escaping into a book. She keeps a box of tissues handy—her favorite stories are intense, passionate, against-all-odds romances. Eight years ago she began creating her own characters in paranormal and time-travel adventures, before turning to contemporary romance. Other interests include quilting, astronomy, all things Scottish and eating anything she doesn‟t have to cook. Sharing her characters‟ journeys with readers all over the world is a privilege…and a dream come true. The winner of Australia‟s Romantic Book of the Year Award for short category in both 2007 and 2008, Anne lives in Adelaide, South Australia, and has two adult children. Title

...At liftoff, Matt Eversmann said a Hail Mary. He was curled into a seat between two helicopter crew chiefs, the knees of his long legs up to his shoulders. Before him, jammed on both sides of the Black Hawk helicopter, was his "chalk," twelve young men in flak vests over tan desert camouflage fatigues. He knew their faces so well they were like brothers. The older guys on this crew, like Eversmann, a staff sergeant with five years in at age twenty-six, had lived and trained together for years. Some had come up together through basic training, jump school, and Ranger school. They had traveled the world, to Korea, Thailand, Central America... they knew each other better than most brothers did. They'd been drunk together, gotten into fights, slept on forest floors, jumped out of airplanes, climbed mountains, shot down foaming rivers with their hearts in their throats, baked and frozen and starved together, passed countless bored hours, teased one another endlessly about girlfriends or lack of same, driven in the middle of the night from Fort Benning to retrieve each other from some diner or strip club on Victory Drive after getting drunk and falling asleep or pissing off some barkeep. Through all those things, they had been training for a moment like this. It was the first time the lanky sergeant had been put in charge, and he was nervous about it. Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death, Amen. It was midafternoon, October 3, 1993. Eversmann's Chalk Four...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...
