Growing into the person you want to become is no easy task. There are events and people in our lives that mold us into the people we are in the present. Those people and events help us discover what we do and don’t want in life. They help us realize what path we want to take and what choices to make. At least for me, that is how my life course has been. The three items in my bag helped me choose what I wanted, what I needed, and where I want to be in life. The Hollywood Feed t-shirt symbolizes how I figured out what I wanted to do when I got older. The Zeta Tau Alpha jersey symbolizes my steady support system and how it has molded me as a person and will continue to do so. The third is a blazer, which represents my dream of becoming a businesswoman while doing something I love, helping people. My first item is a t-shirt. This worn-out, old t-shirt helped me decide what I aspired to do with my life. It is not the t-shirt I care about, but what it represents. This t-shirt is from Hollywood Feed, my first real job. This store is a holistic pet food store. I was seventeen, in my junior year, …show more content…
It has my sorority’s letters on it, ZTA, standing for Zeta Tau Alpha. I knew when I graduated high school, I wanted to be in a sorority. I desired forever friends and something to be a part of when I got to college. What I did not know is who I would become. Zeta Tau Alpha has shaped me into someone who believes more in herself than before and gave me friends that support me through it. I am only two years into what is a forever journey and I can already see myself achieving goals I didn’t think I could reach. I have become more of a leader, more of an example, a better friend, and a better student. Throughout elementary school up until high school, I moved schools a decent amount, so I never had that closeness to girls like I always wanted, but now with Zeta Tau Alpha I have 103 sisters and counting to have my

With an inventor like Kevin Plank, Under Armour’s innovative endurance products give larger sporting goods companies a run for their money. MANAGEMENT SNAPSHOT Kevin Plank’s Determination at Under Armour What Does It Take to Succeed Against Tough Odds? W hen Kevin Plank was a walk-on fullback football player at the University of Maryland in the 1990s, he often became annoyed that his T-shirt was soaked and weighted down with sweat. Always an original thinker, he wondered why athletic apparel couldn’t be made out of some kind of polyester blend that would help athletes’ and sports aficionados’ muscles stay cool while wicking away, and not holding, moisture from sweat.1 As he was finishing his undergraduate studies at Maryland, he started experimenting with different fabrics, testing their durability, comfort, and water resistance with the help of a local tailor. A prototype of Under Armour’s first product—the 0039 compression shirt—was developed.2 Upon graduation from the University of Maryland, Plank was offered a position at...

In 1941, that film was Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane. Welles produced, directed, wrote, and starred in the movie at age twenty-five, playing a newspaper magnate from a young man to old age. While the movie was not a commercial success initially (powerful newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, whose life was the inspiration for the movie, tried to suppress it), it was critically praised for its acting, story, and directing. Citizen Kane’s dramatic camera angles, striking film noir–style lighting, nonlinear storytelling, montages, and long deep-focus shots were considered technically innovative for the era. Over time, Citizen Kane became revered as a masterpiece, and in 1997 the American Film Institute named it the Greatest American Movie of All Time. “Citizen Kane is more than a great movie; it is a gathering of all the lessons of the emerging era of sound,” film critic Roger Ebert wrote.1 CHAPTER 6 ○ MOVIES 185 (c) Bedford/St. Martin's bedfordstmartins.com 1-457-62096-0 / 978-1-457-62096-6 MOVIES A generation later...

The Uninvited Brand

...Abstract Brands rushed into social media, viewing social networks, video sharing, online communities, and microblogging sites as the panacea to diminishing returns for traditional brand building routes. But as more branding activity moves to the Web, marketers are confronted with the stark realization that social media was made for people, not for brands. In this article, we explore the emergent cultural landscape of open source branding, and identify marketing strategies directed at the hunt for consumer engagement on the People’s Web. These strategies present a paradox, for to gain coveted resonance, the brand must relinquish control. We discuss how Webbased power struggles between marketers and consumer brand authors challenge accepted branding truths and paradigms: where short-term brands can trump longterm icons; where marketing looks more like public relations; where brand building gives way to brand protection; and brand value is driven by risk, not returns. # 2011 Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. The party crashers: Marketers and the Social Web Brands today claim hundreds of thousands of Facebook friends, Twitter followers, online community members, and YouTube fans; yet, it is a lonely, scary time to be a brand manager. Despite marketers’ desires to leverage Web 2.0 technologies to their advantage, a stark truth presents itself: the Web was created not to sell branded products, but to link people together in collective conversational...

Cellular Effects

...Cellular Technology and Society Today , Political & Economic ., Health, Psychological & Sociological , Cellular Technology & History , Moral & Sociological DeVry University LAS432 Society, Ethics, and Technology   Abstract The following paper will discuss the psychological and sociological impact of cellular technology. Cellular technology has seen rapid growth in technology and in personal use. Texting has now become the dominant means of communication and actual conversation skills are diminishing. Exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted from cellular devices has become a concern and is being studied from many various angles to determine actual health risks from cell phone use. Whether it is for personal or business use, the cell phone has become a permanent fixture in our lives, could have potential health risks, and can become an addiction if necessary steps are not taken to control use and dependency.   Cellular Technology and Society Today At any store they are visible. They have their hand plastered to their ear or they are seemingly talking to no one. These are the cellphone users. Hayley Tsukayama, a writer for the Washington post asserts that according to the Pew Internet and Life Project only seventeen percent of Americans still have a land line and ninety percent own a cellphone. (Tsukayama, 2014) The largest contributor to this trend is convenience. Most cellular devices are small and easily portable, allowing the user to move around freely...
