Holmes’s article, Gendered Talk at Work, relates to the study because it introduces the idea that the there are multiple dimensions in a workplace “-and one of those dimensions is often the masculine-feminine dimension” (Holmes, 2006, p.15). The entire recording session is most closely associated with masculinity and femininity in speech whether it be masculinity or femininity from either the male or female workers. There is also Ortner whom notes that “one of the benefits of practice theory is its ability to cope with both aspects of women’s (and men’s) lives” which is a theory that is applicable in this study considering there are both male and female participants (Ortner 1996, cited by Bucholtz, p. 209).
