...7 Cities Do It Yourself Auto Repair Assignment 2Week 8: Marketing Plan Part B Roderick D Williams Strayer University Marketing Management Professor Caitlyn Worner 6/1/14 7 Cities Do It Yourself Auto Repair The concept of 7 Cities Do It Yourself Garage did not derive from the passion of an individual repairing their own automobiles, it derived from finding a money saving solution to small auto repairs. Many people do not change their own oil, which is a very inexpensive preventive maintenance cost. Once you get the feel for doing your own oil changes, it will lead to you learning more about vehicle repairs and the amount of money saved in the process. This knowledge will come in handy especially during difficult economic down times, like the economy in 2008. As you learn more about at home car repairs, some required tools and equipment are not available for use in the driveway or garage. Researching a few backyard mechanics you will find the same problems. In addition, many people that rent homes and apartments are not allowed to work on automobiles on the premise, of the rental property; in the city of Norfolk it is illegal and by owner discretion in others. Roderick Williams has been a vendor at a local flea market for over 10 years and through his consumer connections, he was often asked does he know of someone that can fix this or repair that. Another vendor sells stereo equipment, but there is no one to install the equipment, especially on rainy days...

...DAVID VS GOLIATH - Situation Synopsis When India opened its automotive sector in the mid-1980s, the country’s largest maker of motor scooters, Bajaj Auto, confronted a predicament similar to what many “emerging-market” companies face. Honda, which sold its scooters, motorcycles, and cars worldwide on the strength of its superior technology, quality, and brand appeal, was planning to enter the Indian market. Its remarkable success selling motorcycles in Western markets and in such nearby countries as Thailand and Malaysia was well known. For the independent-minded Bajaj family, a joint venture with Honda was not an option. But faced with Honda’s superior resources, what else could the company do? Here in this situation David is BAJAJ Auto and Goliath would be HONDA Motors. Why David succeeded? A closer look at the situation convinced Bajaj’s managers that Honda’s advantages were not as formidable as they first appeared. The scooter industry was based on mature and relatively stable technology. While Honda would enjoy some advantages in product development, Bajaj would not have to spend heavily to keep up. The makeup of the Indian scooter market, moreover, differed in many ways from Honda’s established customer base. Consumers looked for low-cost, durable machines, and they wanted easy access to maintenance facilities in the countryside. Bajaj, which sold cheap, rugged scooters through an extensive distribution system and a ubiquitous service network of roadside-mechanic stalls...

...SEARS, ROEBUCK, AND CO.: THE AUTO CENTER SCANDAL Sears, Roebuck, and Co. began in the late 1800s as a mail-order company that sold farm supplies and other consumer items. Its first retail store opened in the mid-1920s. Responding to changes in American society, such as the move from farms to factories and the presence of the automobile in many homes, hundreds of retail stores opened over the years. The company expanded rapidly, and eventually it diversified to include other businesses: insurance (Allstate Insurance), real estate (Coldwell Banker), securities (Dean Witter Reynolds), and credit cards (Discover). Each of these other businesses became its own division, in addition to the merchandising group which included retail stores, appliances, and auto service centers. By the early 1990s, the company was reporting revenues and earnings in the billions of dollars. 40 Despite its long history of high earnings and its penetration into the U.S. market, Sears' retail business began to experience serious financial difficulties in the 1980s. Discount retailers such as Wal-Mart were pulling ahead in market share, leaving Sears lagging. Sears responded by adding non-Sears name brands and an "everyday low price" policy. But despite these efforts, in 1990 Sears reported a 40 percent decline in earnings, with the merchandising group dropping a whopping 60 percent! Cost-cutting measures were planned, including the elimination of jobs and a focus on profits at every level.41 In...

...Bajaj Auto Ltd. The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Its footprint stretches over a wide range of industries, spanning automobiles (two-wheelers and three-wheelers), home appliances, lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance. The group's flagship company, Bajaj Auto, is ranked as the world's fourth largest two- and three- wheeler manufacturer and the Bajaj brand is well-known across several countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South and South East Asia. Founded in 1926, at the height of India's movement for independence from the British, the group has an illustrious history. The integrity, dedication, resourcefulness and determination to succeed which are characteristic of the group today, are often traced back to its birth during those days of relentless devotion to a common cause. Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the group, was a close confidant and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, Gandhiji had adopted him as his son. This close relationship and his deep involvement in the independence movement did not leave Jamnalal Bajaj with much time to spend on his newly launched business venture. His son, Kamalnayan Bajaj, then 27, took over the reigns of business in 1942. He too was close to Gandhiji and it was only after Independence in 1947, that he was able to give his full attention to the business. Kamalnayan Bajaj not only consolidated the group, but also diversified into various manufacturing activities. The present Chairman...

...Jordan Lewis March 22, 2012 Ms. Sheilds Gentlemen Start Your Hybrids Due to the highly unsustainable nature of auto racing, there will have to be a drastic change by the people running it and the people who love the sport for it to survive. However when you look at the changes that the sport has made and is planning to make there is a lot of hope. There are a few people and teams in the sport that have actually started trying to and make a change. These ways are hopefully going to catch on or in the end, the sport as a whole could be doomed for failure. In a normal NASCAR race weekend it is estimated that about 6000 gallons of gas are consumed and the cars get an average of 2 – 5 Miles per Gallon (MPG). Formula 1, or F1, cars get about the same MPG at 3.1. This number is much more specific since the engines are much more regulated in F1 series. The average fuel consumption for cars and light trucks in the US is 17.1 MPG. So as you can see, to start off, race cars while achieving amazing feats of speed and lap times, fail in the department of sustainability. The shear amount of gas used is interesting in the fact that if the normal passenger car in the US is 17.1 MPG then one weekend of race fuel could power a normal car for 102,600 miles. Now, if we split that up for the number of cars that run in the weekend, which is 43 cars, then 1628.57 miles for your normal passenger car. So that means, that with the amount of gas NASCAR used you could drive from Auburn, AL to...
