The batch processing system is basically used when a moderate volume of goods or services are desired, and it can handle a moderate variety in products or services (Stevenson, 2009). The process begins as soon as the management gets orders form distributers; these orders are then used to schedule the production (Stevenson, 2009). In the beginning of each shift has a list made up of the cookies that will be made that day and then are delivered to the person that is in charge of the mixing (Stevenson, 2009). The person who is in charge of the list and mixing enters the information into the computer, since the master list includes all the ingredients that are needed for the cookies (Stevenson, 2009). After putting the ingredients into the computer, the computer then determines the amount of ingredients that are needed, according to the quantity of the cookies that are being ordered, and relay information to the storage silos that are located outside the plant, where the main ingredients are stored (Stevenson, 2009).
