...Should Homework Be Banned or Not? Homework is just simply not helping the kids in this upcoming generation. Should homework be banned? Yes, homework should definitely be banned from giving them to the children. Many parents have gone to the school’s boards with concerns of the homework, they believe that their kids should be more productive and play outside every once in a while, they should also have more time to spend with family and friends and socialize more often. By canceling the homework you’ve basically given kids the extra time of the day to spend with family and go outside. Etta states in her article “If Parents want their children to be actively engaged with grandparents and more church activities in the evening. Those things would compete with homework time.”. Also is a teacher is said to be assigning work the best idea is to find the best possible solution to finish the work during school hours. Many kids understand what their supposed to do in their work but the kids that don’t understand struggle and fall back and have difficulty learning it. Parents would rather they don’t have homework at all or finish all their work in school. Children rather spend more time doing something else like a sport or afterschool fun activity then be stuck in a chair for a matter of many an hour or two doing school work. Etta Kravolec pointed out in her article that in the 1920’s physicians were concerned about the homework that’s being...

After the Soviet Union launched a satellite into space before the U.S. did, Americans felt that they were not as intelligent as a whole compared to Russia. In order to make the U.S. smarter, education in students became more important than ever. Schools began giving more work and a lot more homework trying to make students the face of the future. The U.S. had to be better than everyone else....

...We Should NOT Have Homework on Weekends We shouldn’t have to do homework on weekends as homework is a school based and no one should need to do it on weekends activity. A lot of people would be busy or have already made plans. Anyway would you prefer to stay at home all day doing homework or rather be out with the family fishing? etc. Homework should be banned or ONLY handed out to those who would love to do it (not me…). Although, homework is important and we should have to do it during the week but no one has time to sit around and do homework at weekends because a lot of people are extremely busy. I suggest homework should be only during weekday evenings. Wouldn’t you rather be out with the family or friends at weekends, enjoying life? Actually I do not really believe we should ever have homework. We spend 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, 40 weeks a year and 14 years (Kindy to Year 12 unless you dropped out) in our lifetime, in school. We have all the schooling/class time to do our work in which is a very long time. So why do we even need homework? According to most teachers some of them disagree and some agree with homework, but maybe it is good to have a little homework, just not on weekends as we only have 12 weeks a years on weekends or holidays and I know isn’t a lot. Homework is good to have if needing to study for tests or exams or even if you just like doing homework. Would you waste your precious time seven days a week? Homework should be only given at weekends...

...The Influence of Homework on Primary and Secondary school students As population grows, the world is getting a lot more competitive than few years ago. Chiefly the students who are accepting basic education are all making great effort to achieve academic success. In the process of working hard to get to their aims, homework is always the steps lead them there. To a great extent, school assignments have not only greatly influenced elementary and high school students’ educational improvements, but also their health conditions. Firstly, assignments after school have brought primary school students both advantages and disadvantages educationally. To begin with, every adult believes that elementary school students are still too young to be able to manage themselves reasonable and keep themselves in good control. First, it can be imagined that an 8-year-old child would not review the knowledge he learnt 2 days ago if he is not asked to do any homework. In that case, his score would definitely decline. Second, still using the example above, people can predict that even more serious than the retrogression of academic work but degeneration of living. He may waste a lot of time on other things like playing computer games and even get involved in some bad peer groups which educate him negatively and would lead him to a dark future. Therefore homework has been playing a greatly important role in primary school students’ academic work and is an efficient way to prevent them going astray...

...we even showed off our school spirit by wearing our school’s colors. We thrived off seeing our friends perform and entertaining the crowd with their skills in different sports. However, there seems to be a common trend about what students and everyone else think about when considering the high school athletes: Are they dumb, mindless, and a waste of time and money? Well I believe that high school athletes are not mindless and dumb, but rather very productive, both athletically and academically. The first reason is that the sports they play in keeps them healthy and active. There are numerous reports that show how being active in sports actually benefits you not only academically, but also in a healthy way too. By being active, you can lose weight, feel happier, and live longer. Most importantly, it can make you smarter and help you concentrate (http://www.activecoquitlam.ca). When you play in a sport, your brain is firing neuro-receptors into both the left and the right hemispheres each time you run, catch, or throw a ball. Thus, coordination and communication is improved between the two hemispheres and more receptors grow each time, which is key to learning information through experiences (Oden). By being active in sports, not only are you gaining experience and skills, but you are also increasing brain function which allows you to learn more and take in more information. Some people who oppose this would say that when we are tired and don’t feel very active during the...

...Too Much Homework? It's all over the news: kids are spending a lot of time on homework. And, according to some, it's way too much. With the current emphasis on high-stakes testing, educators are trying to do more with less, which can result in an overabundance of schoolwork outside of school. Some critics say there is no evidence to suggest that homework is helpful to student achievement; on the contrary, too much of it can overwhelm students and cause them to disengage. Others, however, claim that homework is necessary and helpful, designed so students can practice the concepts taught in class, build good study habits, and reflect on their own learning. As an eleventh grade student who is in advanced and ap classes, I think that homework is the cause of my depleting grades. Now, you’re probably going to think that I’m like any other kid in high school that hates homework and that to even spend another second reading this will be a complete waste of time, right?Even so, just hear me out because I have several reasons that might just change your mind. I have thousands of assignments every week; most of them homework assignments. As a result, I’m cascaded with homework every day, causing me to stay up until 11 o’clock at night more often than not. Obviously, this is a threat to my health as a developing teenager. It could stunt my growth, and result in fatigue and stress because everyone knows that no good sleep leads to no good grades. Even if I were...

...Trouville English CP III 15 December 2015 Should Schools Be Done with Homework? Have you ever enjoyed a day of relaxation? Have you ever experienced the thrill of having a day just to goof off? Has homework kept you away from that? Kids hate homework. Some kids say that homework is just what they learned in class the same day and they are just repeating it. Why do students need to repeat what we did in class that day? Is it necessary? Some reasons why homework is not effective is that many teachers give too much homework, and often teachers do not coordinate the quantity given. Secondly, unnecessary assignments raise the stress level of the students. However, the main argument against homework is that most of it is just boring practice. Teachers give too much homework to kids and it’s not necessary. In an article written by Lance J. Falk it states that “kids have lives beyond school and schoolwork. About 65 percent of kids, ages of 6-13, play competitive sports. But, unfortunately, some of those kids quit playing the sport they love due to the fact that they have too much schoolwork to tackle during their evening” (Falk). If a student has three soccer practices a week, which consumes 2.5 hours of his Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, how do you think he or she feels? He or she would obviously feel very tired, right? But now if that same student had two hours of homework three of the five days that he or she has school he or she would feel exhausted...

...Facebook Facebook is one of the most successful social networks ever made. What ever happened to one human being going up to another and using face-to-face interaction? Over billions of people have a Facebook account, including myself, and spend countless hours on this addictive website. This website has caused a lot of controversy with adults who have kids that are absolutely obsessed with their Facebook. In “Dad’s Encounter with the vortex of Facebook,” written by Michael Duffy, he discusses some issues he has with Facebook. He explains that the site Gives teens an illusion of privacy, has a dark side, where stalking and cyber bullying takes place and most of all that it’s a waste of time. I couldn’t agree more with Michael issues about Facebook. Michael Duffy claims that teens have an illusion of privacy on Facebook. In other words, as he states in his article, “Teenagers think their lives are private just so long as their parents aren’t tuning in.” Since these teenagers have this illusion that their Facebook is private, they think they can say and post statuses as well inappropriate pictures and they think there won’t be any consequences from this. For example, I had a friend who went to a party and took pictures of herself drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and dancing inappropriately on numerous guys. She then posted the pictures she took from the party from the other night, thinking her parents would never see the photos. It turns out she had an older cousin who...

Students can benefit from school because they don’t use electronics all day long. For instance, if you are sitting in front of the computer all day your brain will turn to mush or waste. The students are putting their brains to work doing schoolwork or math problems for example. Students will also get homework that keeps the students busy. If we did not have a summer break I think we should have at least holiday breaks. For example, we should have Easter, Christmas breaks, or important holidays. We should not have a summer break because we can learn more. We would have a little bit of electronics which means we are kept busy. This is why I think we should not have a summer break. 3/21/13 Grammar Essay Many people believe that summer break is more interesting than school, but in school you can learn more. ...Naps Aren’t Just For Little Kids Between classes, homework, church, and work, who really has time for sleep? Obviously not college students. If you walk around campus and take the time to look around, you will see exhausted students all over the place taking naps under shady trees. Or if you walk around the buildings and actually look around, you will see some students sleeping on the couches along the walls and maybe even on the floor in the middle of the hall. Those are definitely not the best places to sleep and they don’t look comfortable at all. Sometimes you just want to walk around and enjoy how beautiful the campus is, but it’s hard to take in the beauty when there are so many sleeping students occupying space all over campus. It’s a safe bet that most of the students you see sleeping on campus probably live far away. So why don’t we just have a designated sleeping area on campus? It would be really be easy to establish a sleeping area on campus. Someone already started by placing a bed in one of the women’s restrooms in the bookstore. There are countless unoccupied rooms all over campus. There is just no way that all the classrooms are used at all times. Since the rooms are empty anyway, they can be easily transformed into makeshift bedrooms with a few beds in each of the rooms. It’s as simple as that. Now the empty classrooms won’t go to waste and they would be put to good use. The sleeping area would be conveniently located on campus near most of the classes....

...13 April 2014 Elementary Education: To Give Homework or To Not Give Homework Mankind is constantly observing and learning. The brain is constantly retaining information whether related to academics or simply everyday life. The subject matter of what one learns and the methods of how one learns is vital. Teachers play a crucial part in one’s life. They determine and guide much of their students’ future. Every little detail of teaching impacts the students. How teachers incorporate and reinforce learning outside of the classroom is extremely influential as well. The debate regarding assigning homework is thoroughly discussed and argued among educators across America. Elementary education is an intriguing occupation that debates the topic of assigning homework, which I believe should be assigned depending on the student’s age. Elementary education is an intriguing and rewarding occupation. The Bible regards teaching as a very highly respected and crucial role that honors God’s values of love, compassion, and truth. Teachers have an opportunity to directly influence and impact children in a positive manner. Many students remember their teachers throughout their elementary years. Those years, during one’s childhood, are formative as beliefs and ideas taught at a young age often carry into the future. Also, elementary education is a beneficial way to give back to the world by increasing knowledge and advocating learning. Teachers often experience a renewed spirit after teaching...
