...Trouville English CP III 15 December 2015 Should Schools Be Done with Homework? Have you ever enjoyed a day of relaxation? Have you ever experienced the thrill of having a day just to goof off? Has homework kept you away from that? Kids hate homework. Some kids say that homework is just what they learned in class the same day and they are just repeating it. Why do students need to repeat what we did in class that day? Is it necessary? Some reasons why homework is not effective is that many teachers give too much homework, and often teachers do not coordinate the quantity given. Secondly, unnecessary assignments raise the stress level of the students. However, the main argument against homework is that most of it is just boring practice. Teachers give too much homework to kids and it’s not necessary. In an article written by Lance J. Falk it states that “kids have lives beyond school and schoolwork. About 65 percent of kids, ages of 6-13, play competitive sports. But, unfortunately, some of those kids quit playing the sport they love due to the fact that they have too much schoolwork to tackle during their evening” (Falk). If a student has three soccer practices a week, which consumes 2.5 hours of his Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, how do you think he or she feels? He or she would obviously feel very tired, right? But now if that same student had two hours of homework three of the five days that he or she has school he or she would feel exhausted...

...students are expected to live up to. Parents of students also expect their children to do well and exceed in school. Student feel they must do well in order to impress and do whatever it takes, including cheating, to get the best grades. Due to the ecomomical collapse our country has faced over the past few years this has caused businesses to be dishonest. An example is of a business that managed people retirement. Many people trusted businesses to handle their retirement only to realize that they had been scammed. Hundreds of people found out that their retirement had been embezzled and they were left with nothing. This financial gain for the company proved to be unworthy and jail time was received. We also see cheating in sports. Lance Amstrong was accused of using steroids for enhancement. This is also see among other athlete’s including wrestling, baseball, basketball, and football. Mandated testing is being mandated to prevent such illegal things from occurring. Relationships also suffer due to cheating. Instead of couples talking things out or getting counseling the resort to finding other people to satisfy their needs and desires instead of talking and working out the problems with the significant others. This is only a temporary...

...LANCE ARMSTRONG1 On July 24, 2005, Lance Armstrong became the first person ever to win the Tour de France seven times. Armstrong’s unprecedented achievement was all the more remarkable for the fact that in 1996 Armstrong was treated for testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. Even without cancer, Lance Armstrong was not an obvious candidate for title of the greatest cyclist ever. Despite certain natural advantages – notably a heart 30% larger than normal with an abnormally slow beat rate (32 times per minute while at rest) – Armstrong’s aerobic rate was less than that of cycling greats such as Miguel Indurain and Greg LeMond. For most of his career, Armstrong was not the world’s preeminent cyclist. He won the world championship just once (1993) and his Olympic best was a bronze medal in 2000 Sydney games. Armstrong’s seven-year dominance of the Tour de France resulted from a combination of factors, not least of which was his singleminded focus, not just on cycling, but on a single race. Between his 1999 and 2005 Tour de France victories, Armstrong was overall winner in only five other cycle races. Armstrong raised planning for the Tour to a new level of sophistication. His meticulous preparations included: “. . . computer calculations that balanced my body weight and my equipment weight with the potential velocity of my bike,” and “careful computer graphs of my training rides, calibrating the distances, wattages, and thresholds.” Armstrong abilities were well-suited...

...Defining Marketing A person can define marketing in a number of ways. It can evolve from a simplistic approach to one with much more depth. After evaluating the trend of the definition, the term can then be placed with a company to evaluate its success or failure with applying marketing strategies. This paper discusses Shimano Inc.’s approach toward consumer, business, and global markets. Definition of Marketing People have a number of interpretations for the term marketing. One person may construe the concept as an advertisement ploy in which a seller attempts to offer goods or services to an individual or group for a cost. The American Marketing Association (AMA) can build upon this raw observation. The AMA (2007) states “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.” Four years after the AMA defined marketing, another set of authors defined marketing in a similar form but included a strategic approach. Perrealt (2011) states “Marketing is the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need-satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client” (p. 6). The distinction between the last two formal statements may arise from the financial meltdown that occurred at the end of the decade (Lim, 2009). Marketing adapts...

...Everyone wants to be the best they can be when it comes to the thing you love. Some people try their hardest other feel that still isn't enough and look for the short way out and enhance their skills with performance drugs such as blood doping and steroids. Lance Armstrong was unfortunately an athlete that ruined his life using the enhancing drugs. ...dealing with a fallen hero. When someone who was highly looked up to and respected is found guilty of cheating, feelings run high. My essay is in response to numerous articles on Lance Armstrong’s use of performance enhancing drugs. In January of 2013, in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lance admitted to using performance enhancing drugs. He also admitted to using other illegal methods to win the Tour De France (Stanley). Before his confession he was already stripped of all his medals, won from the Tour De France. He was also banned from competitive professional cycling for life, and was dismissed from his charity organization, Livestrong, founded by him in 1997 (MacLaggan). Who is Lance Armstrong? Lance Armstrong is a well-known biker famous for his major success in the professional cycling world. Lance was born September, 18, 1971. He did his first triathlon at age 16, and joined professional cycling in 1992. He first cycled for the Motorola Professional Cycling Team. In 1996 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer that eventually spread to his lungs and brain. However after intense chemotherapy and other treatment, he was announced cancer free in 1997. Lance was the winner of seven consecutive Tour De France titles. Unfortunately he didn’t win them honestly. How does this affect me? Lance Armstrong was on my very short list of heroes and people I looked up to. I was a strong believer in his philosophy that hard work and dedication makes champions, not just talent...

...race is changing every year, sometimes the race starts in some northern cities and some border countries as well. There is usually a varied number of team involved in the race from 20 to 22 which has 9 players each in the team. All players are competing toward the great honor of the champion of Tour de France. I just started watching Tour de France last summer by the recommendation of a friend. I saw the great bicycle racer Alberto Contador from Spain became the champion of Tour de France. He is a strong player and my friend told me that he thought Contador was not good any more before the race but he came back to the 1st place again. He said the Spanish players are starting controlling the Tour de France after the great 7-time-champion Lance Armstrong from United States. He was looking forward to seeing a new champion from US soon. American bicycle racers seem to have disadvantage in Tour de France because it’s like an away game for them but a home game for European racers. Tour de France is a wonderful race which brings everyone who loves bicycle race together and enjoys this big...

...amazing athlete loses his seven Tour De France titles due to the use of drugs. The Tour De France is a hard and brutal race, which is why Lance Armstrong decided to use drugs to help alleviate the pain, but it hurt him in long run. I am going to tell you about the use of drugs in the Tour De France, the case against Lance Armstrong, and how he was publicly shamed. Since the very first race of the Tour De France in 1903, doping was actually allowed. The reason they allowed it was because the race is so long and brutal that it was painful for the racers to keep pedaling for such long periods of time, so in order to get rid of the pain, racers used drugs and drank alcohol. (“Hero”) They only allowed doping for the first 60 years of the Tour...
