Case Study

...[pic] CASE STUDY GROUP 1 ASSIGNMENT 1 CASE STUDY SUMMARY Kinetic Company was formed in 1972 by H.K Firodia then taken over by his son in Arun Firodia in 1985. Kinetic then merged with Honda to form Kinetic Honda Motor Ltd with stakes of 28.56% each concentrating on scooters and spare parts. Kinetic Honda Manufactured Scooters while Kinetic engineering manufactured mopeds. In the 80s Kinetic Honda had the largest market share of mopeds which dropped in the 90s by half to 22%. There was also competition in the two wheeler industry by Suzuki and hero Honda. This led to a further poor performance of Kinetic in the market. The poor performance was brought about by conflicts of interests between Honda and Kinetic; each wanting their brand promoted more than it was at the time. Honda also competed with Kinetic Honda through hero Honda in the larger two wheeler market. The poor performance of the scooter industry was leading to a diminishing market. Kinetic realized that their brand was slowly diminishing and decided to pull away from the merger; Honda shared the same sentiments and asked Kinetic to buy them off or vice versa. Firodia bought the 51% stake of Honda and gained full control of the Organization. The new company was called Kinetic motor Company; the company restructured and was able to implement decisions much better. There was better promotion and growth in sales and revenue of Mopeds and Scooters. In 2001...

...faced by Honda Motor Cycle & Scooters India (HMSI). The case discusses the various reasons which led to the dispute between the management and employees of HMSI. It elaborates the incidents, which led to the strike at the company that resulted in HMSI workers being severely beaten up by the police. Labour strife and the management's inability to deal with it effectively had resulted in huge losses for the company due to the fall in the production level at the plant. In addition to this, the company also received a lot of negative publicity as newspapers and TV channels gave wide coverage to the violence of the action. The case highlights the growing number of instances of clashes between the employees and the management of companies in India, which is often guided by external parties such as trade unions and political parties. Issues: » Understand the factors that lead to labour unrest at a factory and the impact of such incidents on the employees and the company. » Study HR policies adopted by organizations to prevent labour unrest at the workplace. » Examine top management's role in maintaining a peaceful working environment. » Analyse the role of external parties such as trade unions; political parties etc., in disturbing the working environment in a company Key Words: Labour unrest, Strike, Collective bargaining, Industrial relations, Industrial dispute, labour laws, Japanese management, Go-slow, Lock-out, Labour relations, Trade union, Root cause analysis, Fair wages...

...ICRA RATING FEATURE TWO-WHEELER INDUSTRY: GROWTH DRIVERS INTACT Contacts Anjan Ghosh aghosh@icraindia.com (+91-22-30470006) Subrata Ray subrata@icraindia.com (+91-22-30470027) Jitin Makkar jitinm@icraindia.com (+91-124-4545368) Overview  The Indian two-wheeler (2W) industry has shown a strong volume growth over the last two-years, having grown by 25% in 2009-10 and 27% in 2010-111 to reach 13.3 million units. This strong double-digit growth has been driven by multiple factors. One reason, of course, is statistical as this period of high double-digit growth has showed up after a rather sedate previous two years, when the 2W industry volumes had shrunk by 5% in 2007-08 and had grown by a mere 5% in 2008-09. In addition to the contribution of pent-up demand, the 2W industry growth over the last two years has been supported strongly by various underlying factors including India’s rising per capita GDP, increasing rural demand, growing urbanization, swelling replacement demand, increasing proportion of cash sales and the less measurable metric of improved consumer sentiment. Going forward, ICRA expects the 2W industry to report a volume CAGR of 10-12% over the next five years to reach a size of ~21-23 million units by 2015-16 as it views the fundamental growth drivers comprising of expected steady GDP growth, moderate 2W penetration levels, favourable demographic profile, under developed public transport system and utility quotient of a 2W - to be intact. Additionally, the...

Customer Satisfaction Towards Hero Bikes

...it is a fast growing developing country. This growth can be seen in the field of automobile industry also. India is a very good market of many globalized automobile giant brands like Mercedes-Benz, Vox Wagon, Fiat, Toyota, Hero, Yamaha, Bajaj etc. In this scenario it would be better to mention about the satisfaction of customers who are using the vehicles. In a competitive marketplace where businesses compete for customers, customer satisfaction is seen as a key differentiator and increasingly has become a key element of business strategy. The customer satisfaction varies from person to person and also one group to another. In the marketing context it is important to understand about the satisfaction level of the customers based on the analysis of data. In earlier periods, i.e. immediately after the independence dependence of foreign technology was banned and manufacturers were forced to localize their products. The automotive industry in our country declined under the government’s stifling restrictions and the Indian buyer was saddled with products of appalling quality. This attempt at self-sufficiency failed miserably because of the industry’s isolation from the best technology. The Japanese and later Korean auto industries were also highly protected in their formative years but they never shut the door on technology. Instead, they relentlessly tapped the best talent pools in the world to absorb the know-how to produce good cars. One of the most important chapters in the Indian...

...on the list so you can see how frequently cars on the top five stolen car list appear around you. When compiling the data the realization that none of my sources raked the top five stolen cars in the same order. This is because the research materials were written in many different states. Researching further if I had used all the data together the data would give outliers in the statistical analysis. So I chose to use the data from the National Insurance Research Institute for this paper. Looking at the numbers, the number one stolen car in the US is the Honda Accord 58,596. Number two on the list the Honda Civic with 47,037 cars stolen. Statics show that it is in the number two spot with a difference of 11,559 cars between number one and two. This is the second closest difference so that shows it is very popular too. The third spot goes to the Ford F-150 for the national car 26,770 F-150’s were stolen in 2012 making it the first truck choice with car thieves. Being the highest ranked truck in the list it still is 20,667 behind the Honda Civic and 26,770 between the F-150 and the Honda Accord. Chevy...

ABSTRACT [pic] Mankind has always strived to give life like qualities to it’s artifacts in an attempt to find substitutes for himself to carry out his orders and also to work in a hostile environment. The popular concept of a robot is of a machine that looks like a human being. Cleaning of floors of rooms and corridor usually involves lot of effort and labour on the part of the person doing it. It causes much trouble, waste of time and energy on the part of humans. Moreover, it also proves to be expensive if a person is hired for doing it. It also makes the employer dependent on the person hired for getting the job done. Thus it bounds people in a way and renders them helpless. What if this process is made automatic and independent of any apparent human role. This can be done with the help of embedded technology and automation. That is the job we as future EC engineers have undertaken. The process of cleaning can be...

Analysis of Automobile Industry

...Analysis of Pakistani Automobile Industry Introduction The dictionary says that an automobile is a land vehicle equipped to carry a driver and several passengers, generally moving on four wheels and boosted by an engine that burns gasoline, and the companies that manufacture these automobiles are categorized under the automobile industry. So simple it seems. However, in the real substance, automobiles and the auto sector mean much more than this. It represents mobility, transportation and communication. It represents an industry that has a strong impact on a dozen other sectors like steel, vending, petrol or even employment. Hence auto sales reflect not only the basic human desire for mobility but these are also an important economic indicator. Historical overview of automobile industry of Pakistan When Pakistan was established in 1947, there were neither any automobile assembly plants nor any industrial capability available for this important manufacturing of cars, Light commercial vehicles, motorcycles, trucks and buses. In 1953 Pakistan produced its first vehicle in, the Bedford trucks, under the banner of National Motors, which went on to produce about 80% of the country’s automobiles in the 60’s. In Mid 1950’s Naya Daur Motors established the first ever plant to assemble trucks and buses. In 1983 Suzuki commenced assembly of FX 800cc. In 1986 Hinopak started assembling operations in 1986 and is the market leader in the commercial vehicles segment, currently possessing...

...dominating the market. There were very few products and choices available as far as motorcycle is concerned and Enfield bullet and Rajdoot dominated the market. The 80s saw the entry of Japanese companies in the Indian market with the opening up of the market to foreign companies. Hero Honda and TVS Suzuki are companies formed in this era of market reform. The market was still predominantly scooter dominated and Bajaj and LML were the leading brands producing two-wheelers at that time. Scooter was viewed as a more family and utility friendly vehicle than motorcycle and hence was preferred. The Japanese companies not only collaborated with Indian companies to produce the already existing products but also brought in new technology as a result of which the ever conquering 100cc bikes which were extremely fuel efficient with 4 stroke engines were launched in India. These proved to be highly successful as they provided a cheap and affordable means of personal transport to all those who could not buy a car. The flourishing middle class took a great liking for these bikes and the bike sales in India began to grow exponentially year on year leading to Hero Honda becoming...

...2.0 Pricing and Promotional Analysis 2.1 Line Stretching The Line Stretching method is applied to the Malaysia second largest car producer Perodua. This company uses both Down Market Stretch and Up Market Stretch. For example, the Perodua Alza has total of 3 different versions. The normal version of Perodua Alza cost about RM59k for automatic transmission. The company introduced an advanced version of Perodua Alza later which comes in a better quality interior, built in GPS and a more stylish bodykit.
