The purpose of the defining Word Project is to learn of the immense benefit that can be gained from really searching out the meaning of a word. Looking up the synonyms and antonyms, understanding what the root word means, finding the primary root in Hebrew and Greek can bring such a depth of understanding to what the Holy Spirit means in a Bible verse. And by diligent study of words, you usually "get it." That's a challenge but we are commanded to do exactly this! 2 Timothy 2:15 “ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” This assignment is based on six words that I have researched and defined according to their Biblical use in both the Old Testament and New Testament. The words I have selected include the following: I chose three from the Old Testament being -praise, honor, rejoice and three of the New Testament including- bow down, shout and joy. The first word I researched was praise. Praise is defined...

...What is Worship? Consider the meaning of the word. The English word worship is derived from an older Anglo-Saxon word weorthship which meant "to honor." Christian worship, whether individual or corporate, offers honor to God. Worship can and should characterize our daily life, we offer praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. As ministers through music, we must get out of the way and let God do his thing through us. Do we always get out of his way? No. We fail often and have to remind ourselves of just who our Audience is (i.e., God). But God is faithful! He has been drawing the church into his presence through worship for two millennia (not to mention the tabernacle & temple before that). God’s people have approached him over that time in numerous ways. Worship music is important to our worship experience as the Church body, and throughout history. John 4:24 “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” • For us to worship God in spirit and in truth we must make sure we obey all of His commandments as given by Him in the Bible on how He is to be worshipped. • We must speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent. • As we sing, pray, give, partake of the communion, and as the gospel sermon is preached, it must be done according to God’s instructions in the Bible. The purpose of our worship is to glorify, honor, praise, exalt, and please God. Our worship must show our adoration and loyalty...

...“Sanatana means “eternal” or “ageless” reflects the belief that these ways have always existed.” (Fisher, 2005, 69) ”Dharma, translates as “religion,” encompasses duty, natural law, social welfare, ethics, health, and transcendental realization.” (Fisher, 2005, 69) The earliest forms of the ancient scriptures, Vedas, contain four parts. The earliest is the Samhitas, hymns of praise and worship to the deities. Then is the Brahmanas, directions about performances of the ritual sacrifices to the deities. Next is the Aranyakas, when people would go to the forests to meditate and recluse. Lastly is the Upanishads, consisting of teaching from highly realized spiritual master’s. (Fisher, 2005) Hinduism followers believe in the Supreme Being and many other Supreme Deities. Rig Veda is the oldest of the known Vedic scriptures which praises and implores the blessing of the devas. The major devas include Indra (the god of thunder and bringer of the welcome rains), Agni (god of fire), Soma (the sacred drink), and Ushas (the god of dawn). (Fisher, 2005) The devas represent and unseen reality as which include opaque earth gods and transparent deities. Hindus believe that once one discovers the inner self and the source, the self merges into a translucent source and experiences peace and bliss. Hindus also believe in reincarnations. Reincarnation is something to be believed as once a person dies, the soul moves on to a new body. Reincarnation does not only happen in something of the human sense...

...explains the laws and the process as to how people learn to behave. According to John Watson, “if psychologists can focus on behavior, they will realize that everything can be learned.” I can apply this theory to several concepts as it relates to my Christian worldview. The first concept is prayer; the very first prayer that is learned is The Lord’s Prayer. Through behavior you learned this either listening to someone recite this prayer or you learned it by reading the bible. The second concept is worship. Worship is first learned and then through maturity you develop your own sense of worship. Worship is learned at home by parents or those whom you live with or it’s learned at your church by those who you attend worship service with. The last concept is praise. Praise just like worship is a very important part of my worldviews. Praise is a learned behavior because it teaches you how to give honor to God. Again just like worship this is learned through watching those who worship. Behaviorism can...

...Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever. {Jeremiah 17:21-25} (HOLY BIBLE and SPIRIT OF PROPHECY) “Those who are not thoroughly converted to the truth frequently refrain from physical labor upon the Sabbath while their minds are left free to run upon worldly business and their tongues speak out what is in their hearts--cattle, crops, losses, gains, etc. All this is Sabbathbreaking. If the mind is running upon worldly business, the tongue will reveal it, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. {5MR 302.1} God has given men six days wherein to labor, and He requires that their own work be done in the six working days. Acts of necessity and mercy are permitted on the Sabbath, the sick and suffering are at all times to be cared for; but unnecessary labor is to be strictly avoided. ...Islam state that it is a Muslim’s duty to take a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia and journey to the town of Mecca. This pilgrimage is called Hajj and is a pinnacle of worship for Muslims. Hajj begins on the Eighth day of the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar and refers to one of the five pillars of Islam. The Hajj remembers and commemorates the stories of Abraham, Hagar, and Ishmael. Although pilgrimage is a compulsory event, Muslims risk their lives to attend. Due to large numbers of people in one place, crowd control problems have led to many disasters. In 1990, for example, a stampede caused the deaths of 1402 pilgrims. But Muslims have faith in their god that they will not be one of those numbers....

...October 20, 2014 in the All Faiths Chapel on campus to honor cancer survivors and reminisce on cancer patients who are no longer with us; this year marked the 3rd annual program hosted by the Baptist Student Movement Gospel Choir. The program was held to make college students aware that cancer exists and to be cautious and concerned with their health. Furthermore, it was a time to pause and honor those who had battled with this disease and still survived. Mia Hall, 21, Junior, says, " As the leader of the Organization, I felt that it would be a great idea to show our heart-felt concerns and love for all of those who have had to face cancer at some point in their life by giving this program to let them know that we care". Not only was Hall the coordinator of the program, she also conducted the order of the program by interacting with the audience and helping them understand the main point and purpose of the Program. -more- Nickolas Hallman, 24, Graduate, led praise and worship which was a very emotional part of the program as students reflected on how God is yet a healer in the midst of this thing called "cancer". The Baptist Student Movement Praise Dancers performed a dance entitled, "Its Not Over" (When God Is in It). This song was very inspiring and gave hope to several students who currently have a family member dealing with this disease; it definitely assured them that the battle was not over yet because God was a part of it and he had the final say. ...Religious Comparison Bethann Rice University of Phoenix Religious Comparison In the early years of Catholicism, worshippers with a common purpose banded together to create one of the biggest Christian entities. At the time the Catholic Church started all Christian beliefs that came before it were thought of as heresy. Even today the Catholic Church still does not recognize other denominations of the faith. The recent Second Vatican Council declared all baptized Christians to be "in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."(Catechism of the Catholic Church Ibid 2358.) In the area of southern Missouri, where I live, there are few choices for different religions. I was raised to be a southern Baptist. Located downtown, however; there is a beautiful building, with classic architecture in the front reminiscent of Catholic churches in larger cities. This building is Saint Agnes Cathedral and Parish. The inside of the church was modest but impressive. Sister Barbara Dingman, the Coordinator of Care Ministry, greeted me at the door. She was gracious and not what I expected. I expected the typical nun, dressed from head to toe in black and white. Barbara was in blue jeans and a blouse, with a...

...The First Worship Service at His Feet By: Lydia Mrema English 102 April 16, 2014 The First Worship Service at His Feet If I could go back in time I would go back to the first worship service ever recorded in the Bible which is in Matthew 26:6-13. When Mary Magdelene went to the house of Simon the leper to anoint Jesus with some fragrant oil from her alabaster box. I chose that particular part in history: 1. I'm very passionate about praise & worship. 2. I believe that many Christians have lost the zeal to worship God in spirit & truth. To witness that moment in time for someone who wants to understand the true idea or example of worship is an absolute honor I would want to experience over and over again. The feeling of His presence and being able to worship Jesus in silent adoration with actions is unimaginable. The whole scene that was happened could also represent the present-day church. People were whispering about her because of her past, they didn't know that she didn't live there anymore. It's sad that in that whole story there was no one else there to stand up for except Christ. Same thing goes on in the church when somebody who for eg. backslide then comes back to the house of Lord. Those kind of people aren't always welcomed back with open arms. What she did took courage and a huge amount of humbleness to walk into some random's house just to commit an act that was done by slaves in those times. Just try to imagine the brokeness and the humbleness...
