...“Hoodwinked” Watching the Documentary film “Hoodwinked,” I realized why being a black male was so hard in America. Growing up as a child I was always taught as to what was the right things to do in my society were, and how to stay out of trouble. But to me I always felt as there was some type of restrictions on life as to what I could and could not do. I mean I saw other kids my age and color out having a ball, living their lives without a care in the world. I even seen some that were once my friends get carried away in a police car. Hoodwinked the documentary film has brightened my horizon as to why some of these things has happened and why I am not just another 1 out of 3 in society. Janks Morton is a brilliant Black man and more people should look up to him as how he is trying to educate the people of color about themselves, especially the young and old black males. In this documentary he has went abound to the black community discussing the facts as to why the things that are happening are happening. It is not because they were raised wrong or simply because they are black, but because of the thoughts being put into each person’s mind. One of the most damaging forces tearing at young black people in America today is the popular culture's image of what an "authentic" black person is supposed to look like and how that person is supposed to act. When asking the question “Are there more black males in jail or in college?” our own people quickly...

...For New Vegan Arrivals - Being and becoming - a smart campus vegan Optimizing one's college years for an effective vegan future of transformative living Being vegan has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with comfort foods, faux foods, or vegan beer. Don’t be hoodwinked into the many side traps of comfort foods, ineffective welfarism, and other distractions. Being vegan relates to (a) principles (which one REALLY believes, not merely which one MIGHT - in a perfect world - LIKE or WISH to believe) and (b) corresponding behaviors (nothing chosen in difficulty may evidence a profound disbelief). With the abolitionists, one can only stand, in time (as we see it over time to be most true) with the commitment to CHANGE the world for the better by abolishing ALL animal exploitation and abuse, BEGINNING with the abolition of all animal agriculture (and animal breeding). I. Choosing a MAJOR OF STUDY is core to being a vegan in college - a vegan 'of the college class - and one must ASK a core question (attributed to a Professor now at Michigan State University): "Can we live by our values?" Choosing a MAJOR OF STUDY is a challenge, and one (if one is TRULY vegan - from the inside out, not merely circumstantially vegan) must ask how can my vegan values be expressed professionally in a transformative or transformational way in human history? II. A vegan of the college persuasion then begins NETWORKING VEGAN-ly by (a) presenting herself or himself to the local vegetarian...

...change is life forever and ultimately lead to his death. Romeo ends it by saying ‘he felt it in the starts.’ There is one thing which was unusual leading up to the event of the two families meeting, which was how Romeo even got to know of his so called enemies in the Capulet party. A serving man at the party asks Romeo to read it for him due to the fact that he cannot read. Romeo reads out the guest. Now pray tell, is this not fates doing? Stars is a hidden key meaning: it is an enigma of fates. Although Shakespeare never talks about it in his play nor we see it, Shakespeare references stars as to the heavens- to stand for three fates. Then there are mentions about Greek gods such as cupid. In Act1.Scene4.Line4. ‘ we’ll have no cupid hoodwinked with a scarf, bearing a Tartars painted bow of lath.’ ‘ Cupid as a lot of people know is God of love and hate and with the strength of its bow and arrow can make one hate or love. In this quote it is blaming Cupid for making people fall in love unwilling, love is not a choice, or an action one makes; Fate destines it. Now for a more in depth example of fates existence in Romeo and Juliet is in Act5.Scence1.Line6. ‘ If I may trust the flattering truth of sleep…. I dreamt my lady came and found me dead and breathed such life kisses in my lips.’ Romeo dreams that he speaks of are mainly set in the future. The future in where his dreams are usually set. The first dream that Romeo spoke of was the night at the Capulets party, which was about...

...Rachael Millette Watts Plautus History 101 15 September 2011 The Roman playwright Titus Macchius Plautus was born in Umbria, an area of central Italy around 254 BC. He began his work in theater as a carpenter, before becoming an actor and eventually a writer. The Pot of Gold and Other Plays are formulaic comedies that provide Plautus’s audiences with undeveloped stock characters as well as clever, scheming focal characters that allow for the central themes of the plays to unfold into entertaining and witty performances for the Roman audiences. Plautus recycled themes in several of his plays. He clearly appreciated a clever, scheming slave who possessed more cunning than his master. He used these sharp-witted slaves such as Pseudolus and Palaestrio as some of the most active and verbal characters despite the fact that the conflicts of the plays concerned their masters. It could be easily said that it is essential to the plotlines that these servants are able to outwit the characters of higher social status. Even over two thousand years ago when Plautus wrote his plays, mistaken identity and long-lost twins were established themes, albeit at this time they were not abused by two millennia of popular literature. For obvious comedic purposes, Plautus develops characters with remarkably slow problem-solving skills, such as Sosicles and Menaechmus in The Brothers Menaechmus. Sosicles has embarked on a quest to find his brother Menaechmus, and despite how peculiar...

...Book Review on Karen Armstrong’s Islam: A Short History and Stephen Tomkins’ A Short History of Christianity Religion is a set of beliefs followed by a group of people and it usually involves a set of moral codes and devotion to a greater force. The vast amount of religions allows individuals to identify themselves within the values of certain doctrines. By analyzing two books whose main subject is religion, it was possible to learn and comprehend two of the most popular religions in the world. Stephen Tomkins’ A Short History of Christianity is a non-biased text where he carefully and meticulously explains the rise of Christianity as well as taking in consideration some other beliefs. On the other hand, Karen Armstrong’s Islam: A Short History, is a text that aims to diminish existing misunderstanding and misinterpretations of one of the world’s most important religions. For people who do not know much about the history of Christianity, Stephen Tomkin’s book is an excellent starting point, since it goes back to when Christians were Jews and both religions were considered the same yet “just one more new version of the faith of Jesus”(Tomkins, 76). It is important to say that people, who already know the Bible can also read this book for it gives specific details, and it accounts some historical limitations as well. For instance, he talks about Paul, one of Jesus’ apostles, and the letters he wrote to the church, telling and reminding people of God’s son’s miracles...

...convinced people why we should not use the MD5 hash for encryption. From my own research shows that SHA 256/512 is the most popular one for encryption today. Second article is about a report from a group of security experts succeeded to create a rogue CA certificate that can be trusted from all common web browsers. This is done by using the defect of MD5 hash. They did the project to reveal the realistic security problems resulted from some certificate authority that still uses the broken hash function even though they are aware of its lack of security. This group of people especially pointed out when it is used for e-commerce or internet banking, the attackers could execute their phishing code without any restriction since the computers are hoodwinked the fake certificate. This could result in a large number of unauthorized transactions without noticing the user. In order to make sure to have reasonable level of security, certificate authorities have to stop using MD5 hashing. The second article was written in 2008 and the first article was written 2014 which is pretty recent. I believe that the reason that the author of the first article pointed out again for the weakness of MD5 is because there are still some organizations and companies that are still using MD5 for encryption even though it has been warned for years. I think the reason why professor assigned this homework is that to figure out why MD5 is easy to break and there is a reason when people suggest not to use it for encryption...

...Nihilism and Irrational Egoism believe good and bad do not exist, which allows one to act as they please, never less if in the process you injure an innocent party. Svidrigailov displays this philosophy in saying, “Every man looks out for himself, and he has the happiest life who manages to hoodwink himself best of all…Spare me, my dear, I am a sinful man.” The belief of doing what please you is shown in the words of Svidrigailov in his response that ‘all men look out for themselves’. He shows the faults this philosophy by pointing out that in order to live like this one must be ‘hoodwinked’ or become blinded from the truth. Continually, his choices and actions show this philosophy until Sonya appears in his philosophy and makes it crumble with the truest philosophy. Experiencing and seeing the results of Sonya’s philosophy, Svidrigailov now comes upon a crossroad to which philosophy he should choose. He realizes the meaninglessness of his life and how his choices have molded this lifestyle and that one should always look out for others. He realizes this discovering in saying, “The...

...CASE STUDY – EFFECTIVE SELECTION The conman of St Luke’s Hospital “Sydney’s Anglican establishment has been scandalised by the discovery that the man chosen to run its prestigious St Luke’s hospital complex for the past year led a double life. John Frederick Bundy hoodwinked the 13 member hospital Board – which includes some of the most prominent names in Sydney medicine and business – into believing that he was a successful businessman, a university graduate, CPA and a man with a stable family life. In fact, none of this was true, and when the Board belatedly found out who the real John Bundy was, he resigned on the spot. The bespectacled, apparently respectable 45-year-old businessman who entrusted with the care of the 200-odd patients at St Luke’s in Potts Point and its adjacent nursing home turned out to be a man with a history of business failure, a high-living pilot and part-time racing car driver who was two-timing his wife in Melbourne with a mistress. Not only that, a routine check with a credit agency would have revealed that Bundy and his legal wife had court judgements for more than $6000 worth of debts outstanding against them, some involving the operation of a business in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn, known as the Hotham City Diner and Bar, and others relating to his red-striped Beechcraft Duke, a six-seater twin-engine executive plane. When Bundy told the Board in 1990 that he had ‘an impressive background in general management’ he...

...intelligentsia’s experienced mind and astute comprehension restrained themselves being in the unjust leaders and political figures of Russia, namely Joseph Stalin and Vyacheslav Molotov, the head of Communist propaganda, by not assembling their wisdom and intellectuality to other. After it is arranged to send afflicted Boxer to a veterinary surgeon in Willingdon and a cart comes to pick Boxer up, Benjamin recognizes some peculiar facts about the cart, quoting, “Fools! Do you not see what is written on the side of that van?...They are taking Boxer to the knacker’s!” (Orwell 122). Contrasting from other animals, Benjamin’s knowledge develops into cynical character, accommodating him to acknowledge the atrocious acts of others early enough to be not hoodwinked by deceiving words. Likewise, the intelligentsia did not expect anything from Tsar Nicholas II, Joseph Stalin, or any of the neighboring countries around the globe knowing that people are only willing to help Russia out in hopes of alternating the animals’ infelicity into their own opulence. Though Benjamin and intelligentsia did not live the most glorious life, their wisdom and experiences hindered them from being bamboozled by the pompous surroundings. By the end of the novella, the lives of both Boxer and Benjamin differentiate dramatically, aligning the lives of the working class people and the Menshevik intelligentsia, since their different intellectuality levels greatly affected their lives. Even with all the battles and obstacles...

...herself to feel self-conscious because she does not have that peculiar look? Continuing with, the mass media and television have a huge impact on children. There are educational shows that are televised, but there are other ways you can stimulate the brain, such as puzzles, play dough, board games, magazines, cutting and pasting and reading. As a replacement for letting your baby or toddler watch TV, do share activities that will encourage healthy brain development. According to Dana Stevens, “pay attention, make inferences, track shifting social relationships” (296). Television is embellished, dressed up, and censored and at times portrays false situations. In addition to, not only does it affect children, teenagers and young adults are hoodwinked too. Our generation is stuck on sex, and look who has what, and they are doing. Not everyone but there are some who have that mindset. With that being said, the concept of love has been mixed up with the actual real conception is. You cannot command, buy, or demand love just as you cannot grab the stars from the blue sky or touch the sun. Young adults have lust and sex confused with love. Love is free, with no strings attached. When there are attachments’ or a constraint that is not love but control. Brain science tells us it is a drive like thirst. The following time line shows how each innovation had an effect on the technology that was introduce in that time period. The expectation of movie goers was high as a result the film makers came up with new way of composing motion picture on the big screen. The thought process was open to new possibility. The use of movie projection called magic lantern was introduce in the Seventeenth Century. The use of different filming technique was on the rise. The thought process of movie composer consists of what they were exposed to and to shoot at different perspective. It was well thought out. A movie that was directly influenced by a technological advancement was Alfred Hitchcock, “Vertigo”. To achieve my point, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub-sections. In the first section, there is a record of three important events in twentieth century motion picture history: technological changes, the information revolution, a film by Alfred Hitchcock. The techniques he used and how it paved the way for movie director that came after him. ...The Eve of St. Agnes by John Keats was written in 1819 and contains 42 stanzas of what one can deduce is a romantic love story, but John Keats includes more than just this generic genre. John Keats suggests that by utilizing and then complicating “fairytale” conventions we can distinguish an ambiguous relation to mortality. This relationship to mortality can be seen in the different characters, Porphyro and Madeline’s relationship, and at the ending of this particular literature. Not only does this literature have a general fairytale plot, but conventions such as "hoodwinked with faery fancy," (stanza 8), "Thou must hold water like a witch’s sieve,/ And be liege-lord of all the Elves and Fays…," (stanza 14), or “…tis an elfin-storm from faery land…” (stanza 39) are used to imply that this story has a fairytale nature. On the other hand, if we take a closer look at John Keats’s work, we see lots of “dark” imagery that leads us to ponder the topic of mortality. This underlying relation to mortality can be glimpsed when we examine some of the different characters. The characters in this tale can be easily correlated to characters found in a standard fairytale. For example your hero is Porphyro. He is the protagonist in this tale and has to persevere to win a fair maiden’s heart (Madeline being the fair maiden). The fairytale genre is shown because we assume Porphyro is a good, noble guy. Many people argue he is not because of the wording Keats uses that implies Porphyro is not...
