Murphy In his introduction to The Pedagogical Wallpaper, Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock notes how the pedagogical diversity of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wall-Paper” prompted him to collect essays for this book. He goes on to explain that “given the ubiquity of the text within various academic settings, I was also struck by the absence of attention to the text within pedagogical contexts. Despite the large (and steadily growing) body of criticism to the story, very little of it explicitly addresses its importance as a tool to facilitate learning or various ways in which to make use of the text in the classroom” (3). As a collection, Weinstock’s The Pedagogical Wallpaper contains informed, detailed, and diverse analysis that attempts to shore up the absence of “pedagogical possibilities” concerning Gilman’s transgressive short story (9). Among the contributors are a MOO space specialist, a Gilman scholar, a queer theorist, an existentialist, a formalist, and several reader/student-response theorists. Because each essayist presents a distinct critical perspective on Gilman’s text, each essay is likewise concerned with “how the narrative teaches and how to teach the narrative” (5). Thus, it seems...

Thousand of vacationers come to Hawaii each year to get away from the stressful city and relax. People can go to the beaches, take tours and many other things. The Hawaii is ranks 47th in size among the 50 states (Hawaii – location, size, and extent). Long time ago people from Hawaii think that Pele and Ailaau made the islands. When Pele got to the high mountain she used her magic stick to make the crater. Then this guy Ailaau wanted to live on the state too. One day they both wanted to be the ruler of that state. They started fighting and throwing fireballs at each other and that’s how they made the islands (The Birth Hawaii). In the early religion of Hawaii the indigenous culture spread amount the islands. Hawaiian scholar Mary Kawena Pukui, who was raised in Ka’u, Hawaii maintained that the early Hawaiian gods were benign. They respected all things and took care of all things, all was pano.” They also think that it’s a wonderful thing to have a spirits of the dead and the angels. It's one of those papers, I suspect, that some people will react to by thinking: "I wish I had written that!" Further, I can see others I know well in the field as fitting the description of the tempered radical, at least in some circumstances and at different times. The reviewers, while suggesting changes, as reviewers do, were also very taken with the paper. It is intellectually interesting, and evocative. It provides us with a perspective on organizational issues that is typically glossed. It opens an arena for organizational analysis that is missed in most theoretical frameworks. Tempered radicals, Meyerson and Scully argue, are individuals who identify with and are committed to their organizations and also to a cause, community or ideology that is fundamentally different from, and possibly at odds with, the dominant culture of their organization. Their radicalism stimulates them to challenge the status quo. Their temperedness reflects the way they have been toughened by challenges, angered by what they see as injustices or ineffectiveness, and inclined to seek moderation in their interactions with members closer to the centre of organizational values and orientations. The paper is a scholarly treatment of a complex concept. It is radical in its charge to us to see new possibilities in the study of organization. It is tempered, even hopeful...

...Philosophy of Classroom Management A constantly changing and naturally evolving classroom management plan would be the cornerstone of my philosophy, with the central question being “what do these students need and how can I meet those needs.” This type of approach would ensure that I would respond to the diverse intellectual nature of a student body that are also culturally, socially and economically different. Acknowledging that these magnificent young people with exciting and formulating minds need lessons that will arouse their natural curiosity and provoke critical thinking skills, I will develop and implement an engaged pedagogy that honors them, recognizes their abilities, and challenges their constantly expanding dendrites. There is no greater honor than to help another individual come to a realization of their unique and natural talents—to facilitate another’s blossoming in this world and to bring them to an awareness of their place in this continuum. It will be my role and daily challenge to devise relevant and engaging lesson plans that will help create deep thinkers and problem solvers, so that when problems do arise, the students themselves can devise the solution. The goal is to create loving and caring individuals who will take risks, establish realistic goals and assume personal responsibility for the results of their behavior; where the only competition is with themselves, the individual, and not with each other, and where the process is about discovering...

...One of the most major writing forms in psychology is the experimental report, consisting of a title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion and references section. Another form of popular writing in psychology is through trade publications, this writing is still characterized by conciseness and clarity in language however, it lacks the elements which make up a lab report. For the purposes of this paper, the scientific journal article written by Pfeifer et al titled “The Culture Of Mentoring: Ethnocultural Empathy And Ethnic Identity In Mentoring For Minority Girls” from the Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology journal and an APA website featured article by Greer titled “New Mentoring-Intensive Program Fosters Minority-Focused Research” will be the objects of an analysis into the nuances of writing in the discipline. The journal article has a relatively high impact factor for its subfield (5-year, 2.562) and the trade publication is from the leading and largest publisher in psychological science (APA). These two types of writing will be examined to support the noted purposes of psychology and to further provide reasoning for how psychology writing is...

...of the pieces in which I have created myself and the other a real piece used by Mulberry. I will be evaluating these adverts whilst considering audience, purpose and effectiveness once establishing the type, medium and method for each communication. I will also need to evaluate these two pieces of external communication as key contributors to review the success of the organization. Examples to demonstrate these points will also be included. Along side this I will also discuss if the external communication works and compare both pieces, stating improvements. Included in this report is also a bibliography which will include a list of references that I have used as research to find my information. Methodology When creating my advertisement, I considered key criteria. My key criteria aimed for my poster to include a hook, a piece of information, a call for action and a purpose which targeted my audience. In class we brainstormed the key criteria before making our own advert to assess how we could include these elements into the external communication. As a class we all made rough drafts of our posters and jotted down a range of different ideas as a rough draft. I decided to also evaluate against the key contributors of Mulberry. I discovered these key contributors by assessing the elements in which my advertisement would have an affect on. These elements include profit, sales, footfall and conversion. My piece of external communication is a recruitment advertisement, which will...

...Foundations of Research RES 320 April 26, 2011 Patricia Moser Abstract The discussion of this paper will review The Neilsen Ratings System for television programming in the United States. The paper will specifically focus on the research studies for the Neilsen Ratings System. The goal of the paper is to explore these issues, incorporate the ideas and practices of the Neilsen Rating Systems and discuss the pros and cons of this research giant. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Neilsen Rating System The Neilsen Ratings System began as a radio rating system by Arthur Neilsen. The Neilsen Rating System evolved to eventually analyze television data. In 1950, Nielsen moved to television, developing a ratings system using the methods he and his company had developed for radio (Levin, 2006). That method has since become the primary source of audience measurement information in the television industry around the globe. Measuring Ratings The Neilsen Rating system is characterized as a syndicated data provider. A syndicated data provider tracks the change of one or more measures over time, usually in a given industry (Cooper, 2006). Neilsen Rating system makes a very lucrative business for the data that is presented to the entertainment industry, most importantly television. The primary system of measuring data for the Neilsen Rating system is by gathering data and the industry...
