What the Heck is a Hookah? Have you ever seen a hookah, long pipes, metallic tray, and an ornate vase? This fascinating structure I just described is also malicious. The hookah pipe originated in the East. Hookah is a device used for smoking marijuana or tobacco consisting of one or more long flexible pipes connected to a container of water. There is a piece of coal placed on the top of the hookah to warm the water into vapor, and a tray underneath to catch the ash that may fall from the coal, this makes the hookah look like a tiered cake. This device is extremely similar to an electronic cigarette. The main reason a person would switch from smoking a regular cigarette to smoking a vape, would be to cut down on the amount of smoke that goes into your lungs. From prolonged usage, the smoke from a cigarette could cause, loss of taste buds, create tar in the body, causes cancer, and can blacken teeth. The vape decreases the amount of smoke that goes into the body, therefore it limiting the effects mentioned above. Since there is little to no regulation on the additives of vaping devices, vaping can be considered to be just as harmful as smoking. The making of the vape may greatly differ from each manufacturer. Vapes produce more vapor than an ordinary cigarette allowing people to perform “smoke tricks”, that they wouldn’t be able to accomplish with a normal cigarette.
