Laura Vanderkam wrote “Hookups Starve the Soul” a few moths after graduating from college. In this essay, Vanderkam discusses the informal sexual relations that college students encounter on campuses and uses personal dating experiences as a way to support her arguments. Vanderkam defines “hookups” as term used when two individuals do not expect any kind of commitment after having any physical encounter. Vanderkam adequately exposes how hookups satisfy biology, but do not fulfil emotional needs and more importantly, the soul. Through out her argument, Vanderkam clearly states that “hooking up” have ruined traditional dating and romance.
