...Demand: Consumer Preferences I observed people changing their cloths as long as the weather or season changes. However, why couldn’t they wear warm cloths such as winter jacket, gloves, snow boots, etc. all year long? Otherwise, why would people look at me as if I were nuts or sick when I wore a very warm jacket and snowshoes in hot summer days? Therefore, weather or season changing has a great influence on consumer’s preferences on a particular good. In addition, it can relate to one of the determinants of demand that cause a shift in the demand curve. For example, in winter, people are highly interested to wear or buy very warm clothes than in summer. Therefore, when people feel cold, the demand for warm cloths is increasing, which mean that the demand curve is going to shift out. However, in Summer, people feel hot so their interests in warm cloths is going to decrease , which leads to a shift in of the demand curve. Another example of the impact of weather changing on consumer preferences is the use of means of transportation. In very snowy days, people are demanding more to ride a bus or a car than to walk, but in nice weather such as in late spring, people are less interested in using means of transportation.so the demand for the use of means of transportation increases in snowy days that make the demand curve to shift out. While in very nice weather, people take advantage of the weather so they prefer to walk. With that, the demand for using means of transportation is going...

...The author of this portfolio is currently the head boy’s basketball coach at Desert Hot Springs High School. Basketball has always been a passion of the author ever since he was a young boy playing the game in front of his childhood home. Immediately after high school, he had put himself in a situation of being a young father raising a newborn, beautiful little girl. It was then, when he realized that he wanted to become a basketball coach. He felt that it would be tough for him to pursue a career playing basketball, while having to support a family, so he figured why not coach the sport that he was passionate about. His experiences with former coaches, both positive and negative, have helped shape his coaching philosophy. The first high school coach that the author played for helped him realize the coach that he did not want to become for his players. This high school coach would be consistently late to practice, make inappropriate comments to players and simply roll the basketballs out and have the team practice on their own. This coach almost turned the author off from playing the sport that he adored because of the ineffective coaching style that was demonstrated. The author then ended up transferring schools in hope for a better experience playing basketball. The last coach that the author played for in high...

...was raised in a little town name Santa Rosa, and it is customary that all children between the ages of eight to thirteen should go down to the pasture and milk the cows before eight in the morning. Also, once that was done you had to get ready for school and catch the bus to the city. Once school was over you had to rush back home so your mom could give you your errands and chores that had to be done before you could go out and play. A typical student would wear khaki pants, blue or white shirt, and black shoes because if you didn’t you would not be allowed into school. Lastly, before bed you would go down to the pasture again and move the cows to a different pasture for some fresh grass and water. I moved to a city called Desert Hot Springs, where I no longer had to wake up early to go to the pasture, but still wake up early to help my mom make breakfast for the whole family. I would go to school for almost nine hours and come home to chores that did not involve moving cows or buying ingredients for dinner. My mom would drive everywhere, even though I was accustomed to ride a horse to school and back. In the city, I learned that you are not safe wandering the streets at night, but it was something I always did. I saw buildings that seemed that they touched the sky but were nowhere near that. Lastly, my entire way of eating changed from...

Sooner or later, a customer is going to bring in an unusual firearm for which spare parts, especially springs, are nonexistent. Or, maybe itâ ™s an interesting antique that you got a deal on at the last gun show or at a farm auction and would like to shoot if only the mainspring(s) werenâ™t broken. Dozens of phone calls get you nowhere. Your usual reliable sources for parts have never heard of the thing and have no idea where to direct you. At this point desperation sets in. Doubling or tripling the price will deter all but the most determined customers. ...Dear friend I predict you maybe kind of shocked or amazed to be hearing from me after such a long while. I hope you're keeping fine and everything's swell in Salinas. I guess you may have of heard I got married, this guy named Curley. He's the son of a big rancher and we live out at the ranch. We grow barley mostly out here. All the workers live in the bunkhouse, but me and Curley live in a big two by four house. Curley's fixing to decorate it up real nice; as soon as he's done I was thinking you could visit and stay a while? It's mighty different out here to Salinas, not many folks to talk to. There's just me, Curley, his old man, and the hired hands; they're drifters, mainly here in spring and harvest time. Oh and there's this uppity nigger of course, kept in the stable, so I don't talk to him. I don't talk to no fat lipped nigger! Anyways the boys start work early morning and finish late afternoon, they all go back to the bunkhouse and most times play cards. Sometimes Curley and all the boys have a horseshoe tournament going on, I don't like it when that happens cause I'm all on my own in the house or out there, but it is one of the few times Curley lets me go outside. Other times he tries to keep me in the house. He gets mighty jealous even though I never give him cause to...

...Company has operated a plant in Michigan, which manage by Brendan O’Rourke. Currently, they are producing Ice Mountain bottled-water. To add to this, Nestle wants to increase the amount of water pump so that they can create a bigger market of bottled-water. However, Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation (MCWC), a Mecosta local resident group, worry that the over pumping groundwater will have an effect towards the environment, and consequently, they wanted to stop the Ice Mountain bottled-water plant. Therefore, the main issues for Nestle can be summarized as listed below: • The Nestle company pumps groundwater, but the ownership of groundwater is controversial. However, there were many arguments regarding Nestle pumping the water from the spring, yet a MCWC’s (Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation) lawyer – Jim Olson agree and explain it under the doctrine of reasonable use which states” the owners of a stream can use its water as long as it’s in connection with their land”. In addition, David K. Ladd argues that the water that was put in the product is no longer water; it is considered a food and is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. • In 2003, Nestle was ordered by Michigan state court judge – Lawrence Root to turn off the pumps due to Michigan climate began to change. In addition, a year after Jennifer M. Granholm (the new governor for Michigan, who stopped the expansion of new bottled-water plants) proposed the Water Legacy Act (to protect all state’s groundwater)...

...Ballet 2 In the video clip, the ballerina performs a variation as the spring fairy in Cinderella. This is a allegro piece with springy and quick steps. The dancer executes each movement with incredible grace and control. She really captivates her audience and draws them in emotionally. She incorporates ballet incredible technique that is strong but at the same time she makes it look effortless. Her musicality adds to the drama of the piece and shows her true talent. Her port a bras are perfect, the way that they move with each step and add to the complexity of this variation. The port a bras also add to the lines of her body and I like how her hands, in a way, are presenting her feet.. Her legs reach and point while she's in the air in such a graceful way. She also has a great sense of her center, which helps her in her turns and jumps while she moves in a circle. The piece also goes from fast movements to slow and even incorporates isolated movements, which allows time to show cases her talent. She performs one arabesque position into another with out coming off point, then does it again without taking a molecule of sharpness off of her skill level. Overall I think that the ballerina's performance in this piece was incredible. Its inspiring to watch, for someone like me who its trying gain more knowledge and skill in ballet and dance in general. She performs with such ease and grace that really just adds to the beauty of her talent and make it even more awe inspiring...

For her a mortal-man will gladly part With all he has; will give his calm repose; For her are born all science and all art, That brows of men with laurel fair enclose. As from the towering mountain's lofty heart The purest current of the streamlet flows, So education without stint or measure gives Security and peace to lands in which she lives. Where Education reigns on lofty seat Youth blossoms forth with vigor and agility; He error subjugates with solid feet, And is exalted by conceptions of nobility. She breaks the neck of vice and its deceit; Black crime turns pale at Her hostility; The barbarous nations She knows how to tame, From savages creates heroic fame. And as the spring doth sustenance bestow On all the plants, on bushes in the mead, Its placid plenty goes to overflow And endlessly with lavish love to feed The banks by which it wanders, gliding slow, Supplying beauteous nature's every need; So he who prudent Education doth procure The towering heights of honor will secure. From out his lips the water, crystal pure, Of perfect virtue shall not cease to go. With careful doctrines of his faith made sure, The powers of evil he will overthrow, Like foaming waves that never long endure, But perish on the shore at every blow; And from his good example other men shall learn Their upward steps toward the heavenly paths to turn. I look for five things: 1) The Research Question. Is it interesting and important? New question? Old question with no previous clear answers? Whether the research question is interesting and important is determined with respect to the literature (more objective judgment) and with respect to economic ...

...Nico deveber Professor Gabrielle Houle DRST 2617 10 October 2014 Springtime by María Irene Fornés is a play that follows the lives of Rainbow and Greta, two lovers living in a small city in 1958. Springtime brings up many issues on love, power, and desperation; especially in regards to poverty and sexism. Through a close reading of the text, it will become clear that this play requires its audience to understand how poverty and sexism intersect in regards to oppression and privilege in society. Poverty is a clear topic in Springtime, it is first presented in the second scene wherein Greta is ill, and Rainbow is forced to steal in order to afford her treatments: “I must do it. You’re ill and we must take care of you.” (83). In this scene Greta begs Rainbow not to do something that could endanger her, and Rainbow insists that she must to be able to afford her treatments. This is the first of many scenes in which the issue of poverty is presented to the audience. In another scene, Greta tries to get Rainbow to throw away the watch she has stolen, and again Rainbow cannot oblige because, “We need the money. For you. To make you well.” (83). Rainbow and Greta are struck with a terrifying reality in which they must choose between Greta’s health, with the cost of sin (and real-world consequences, as displayed through later scenes) and letting Greta fall ill. Rainbow is driven to blackmail and prostitution, taking nude photos with men in desperation to pay for Greta’s treatments. While...
