...HOUSTON -- The waiting is one of the hardest parts for K.J. McDaniels. He has the athletic ability and smarts to play in the NBA, it's just that he has to wait. Last season, McDaniels was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Houston Rockets for Isaiah Canaan and a future second-round pick. McDaniels didn't play because, well, let's be honest, James Harden, Corey Brewer, Jason Terry and Trevor Ariza were ahead of him. Veteran players -- two with rings, one a superstar and an elite bench performer -- were going to get time over McDaniels. "It's helped me out a lot just watching and seeing how the intensity is and how it picks up throughout the regular season to the playoffs," McDaniels said. "I have to be ready with the same intensity." McDaniels, 22, played in 62 games for the 76ers and, after the trade to the Rockets, logged 33 minutes over 10 games. He suffered an elbow injury toward the end of the season, limiting his practice and playing time. In the offseason, 10 teams were interested in his services, but as a restricted free agent, the Rockets had the right to match any offer. McDaniels didn't receive any offers worth making the Rockets worry, and he signed a three-year, $10 million deal. And now that McDaniels has some financial security, he continues to wait. "Still learning a lot of stuff, he comes with a phenomenal physical set of tools," coach Kevin McHale said of McDaniels. "A really good kid, works really hard. A lot of positives." McDaniels...

It features traditional fare and healthier menu items. Drexler’s continues to be a family business with strong underlying values. It is in the neighborhood and is of the neighborhood. The current head of the family, Mrs. Scott, influences the culture of the organization, and the values underpinning it. Her values of honest, hard work and treating people fairly with respect and her strong faith in God are obvious when you step in the restaurant. ...LENG 111 – 11 Professor Patrick Doyle November 7, 2012 Commentary Growing up with Basketball Basketball, which is a kind of famous sport, is sweeping the global and attracts more and more people now. For most people, playing basketball is so easy that it does not need broad playground and long running. It just needs a one over seventeen fields of football ground and basketry. Then you can have fun with it. But I think that different people have different understanding of basketball. A few days ago in the U.S. presidential election, people know that Obama does well in basketball, and that he is a left-hander. When a journalist asked him,” what will you take action in the sport such as basketball if you won the election campaign?” He said,” I think that sport is the same as politics.” That is Obama’s attitude towards sport. But for me, basketball is not just a sport for keeping healthy, and it is also a kind of spirit. In fact, the first time I learnt about it was an accident. I was eight years old when I was in primary school. And my school started to open up many “special teams” to enrich students’ campus life. There were basketball teams, Ping-Pong teams, martial art teams, music teams, athletics teams, and so on. When I heard this news, I was very happy because I was interested in martial art very much at that time. Although I was just a little boy, I knew that martial art is a part of Chinese culture...

I enjoy basketball but, I don’t enjoy reading and when I read about basketball it got me more interested in the NBA and basketball. I liked learning about retired and older players such as Tim Duncan, Chris Anstey, Jacque Vaughn, Bobby Jackson, and Tracy McGrady. Learning about Tim Duncan, Chris Anstey, Jacque Vaughn, Bobby Jackson, and Tracy McGrady got me more interested in learning about the history of basketball. This book is about the rookie experience that rookies go through and the challenges they have to face throughout there rookie years. I liked this book because I know how tired and beat down an athlete can get towards the end of the season. I would recommend this book to teen athletes. I would not recommend it to people who are not interested in sports. The intended audience is basketball players and young athletes. This story also talks about how fast you can get traded. Bobby Jackson originally drafted by the great championship contending Seattle Sonic; but before he could celebrate he was traded to one of the worst teams in the NBA (Back then), the Denver Nuggets. He was heartbroken. After reading this book I have learned that a rookie has to face many challenges his first few years. This book is a very good book for people like me. I enjoy playing basketball I love everything about it and reading about it wasn’t too bad...

...switch sports. It was then that basketball became my passion. After trying out for my high school team and making the cut, I was able to experience a new opportunity. The opportunity in being able to compete with other countries. My team and I were eligible to compete in the Junior Southeast Asian games. We competed with team members who came from China, Mongolia, Laos, Japan, Cambodia and Vietnam. I would play my heart out during every practice and especially every game. I was soon rewarded for my talent. I was named Best in Sports and Athlete of the Year when I graduated from high school. One of my favorite examples that came into contrast to the stereotype that Asians can not play sports is Yao Ming. Yao Ming who plays center for the Houston Rockets team is also one of the best professional basketball players in the NBA. His ability to block and shoot from the perimeter overcomes the average of a typical center players ability during a...

...Through out this last century we have witnessed the globalization of all sports pretty much. Sports teams now included players from all over the world, in everything from the NBA to UFC. I have never seen a time where the world became so united as I have lately. A perfect example of this would be when Yoa Ming joined the Houston rockets when he joined he brought with him millions of new fans. I think it is great that we are being introduced to the globalization of sports. The US soccer team has made the world cup a global competition. Before I always though that the Olympics where the only time countries came together in a battle of sports, however I now am able to witness this in almost all sports today. So the question in everyone’s mind is how is this going to change sports for us for the world? Well I can say for the players and owners of anything sports that is marketable this blows up the way they will make money. I mean tis takes a small time team into a million dollar franchise that is able to sell to millions of customers or sports fans. I think that can be good, I know some might and do complain they make to much as it is but really I think they are just mad they can not succeed at this. This is their job and they deserve to make whatever they can just like we deserve what ever we can from what ever career we choose. I have chosen bodybuilding and now since it has been globalized we are able to compete and win in all kinds of countries and...

...Lebron James is an 11 time all star, 4 time most valuable player, 2 time NBA finals most valuable player, and a 2 time NBA champion. While his accomplishments are phenomenal, his legacy seems to be stained by 4 finals losses. At the end of the day, when he is compared to NBA greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, championships are all that matter. If James wants to strengthen his legacy, a championship next season is crucial which would also please the city of Cleveland, not having won a major league championship since 1964 and end the long drought which is now referred to as a curse. James needs to win a championship next season to strengthen his legacy. Even though James’s personal goal is not to win championships but to be the best...

You got to work for it and that's what makes it great. This is my story of how I get my mom and I out of this poor life and get treated with pleasant things. It was hard growing up fatherless while my mom was working to provide for her only child. It was me and my mom against the world because we went through past due bills and barely had enough to buy food. My name is Omari and I was born in Rieti, Italy. I have a Hershey Chocolate skin color, standing at five foot nine feet, and am outrageously handsome, somewhat like a model. My dad left me and my mom when I was about five years old. It was sad to see my father leave at such a young age. My mother told me later that he had other “problems” he needed to take care of, which did not involve me or my mother. But I knew why he left us now. He left us because that problem was another woman. I cannot believe that is what he did, but now that I look at it, I could care less about his whereabouts. My mom is my motivation and why I try so hard. I have a dream that one day I will get my mom and I out of this poor life. Then we will eventually live happy without having to deal with stress.
