In the Mid 1800, American history had an influence on the swine’s moving population. The first event occurred in 1803 when the Louisiana purchase occurred, and ex-immigrants and citizens could purchase land. Although the Louisiana Purchase contributed to the American population growth, it also increased the land availability. In 1818, Elisha Mills introduced the first pork packaging plant in Cincinnati, and the pork industry began to flourish. Cincinnati has 26 meat processing plants and, it was the biggest city in the west, so it received the nick name Pork polis. One of its products, Salt Pork, which is the cut of swine’s belly preserved with a salt cover, became popular in America and became a food staple to Americans. The Homestead Act
