She graduated from Yale University with a PhD in Social and Developmental Psychology, honored with over 17 awards, published a Book of the Year by World Education Federation, featured in New York Times and The Washington Post, and valued as one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of motivation (Courtesy, n.d.; MINDSET, n.d.). Those are just a few of the affiliations and accomplishments of Carol Dweck. Her careers include being a Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, holding professorships at Columbia and Harvard, and also lecturing all over the world. Her key contributions to education are her implicit theories of intelligence and beliefs about how ability and intelligence vary (Mind, n.d.). She talks about how it is important to have a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset in order to move forward in one’s ability to learn. These contributions are expressed in her book “Mindset”. …show more content…
Not only is she profound in her own education, she raises very good points which have been expressed in her thirty years of research (Mind, n.d.). Her research on Brainology and the different mindsets children have has spread all over the world. A relevant topic pertaining to Dweck’s research is about a school in New York. The students in that Junior High showed varying grades depending on whether they had a fixed or growth mindset. Psychologists designed a program using Dweck’s intelligence theory to improve the student’s grades. The individuals with fixed mindsets showed improvements in grades and studying (Trei, 2007). She said, “What was important was the motivation” (Trei, 2007) and viewpoints like that are necessary for change in the education

These rule-oriented games include informally organized games as well as formally organized sports, such as little league, club or intramural sports. The former category may be variants on popular sports games, well-known childhood games such as red rover, and invented games that children develop on their own. The principal commonality is that these games have a set of rules and often have multiple roles for players. While informal outdoor play allows children to develop rules and try out multiple scenarios, formal, organized sports allows children to learn rules, appreciate their personal skills, and develop their position on a team. Both types of rule-oriented games are important for developing social competencies and enhanced cognitive capabilities. This milestone develops as children begin to develop more improved motor coordination, a better capacity for information processing, and a heightened social maturity (Berk, 2007, p. 294). The physical skills at play in rule-oriented games include flexibility, balance, agility, and force, reflective of increased muscle strength.
