Love is a strong feeling that can make people do things they never thought of doing before and brings people together. When someone is in love, they are emotionally changed and their actions and behavior is drastically changed. Love can also be expressed through works of art, literature, and songs. One such example is the play Romeo and Juliet. In this play it shows a tragic love story between two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo comes from the family of Montague’s and Juliet comes from the Capulet’s. The Montague’s and Capulet’s have had a major feud going on for many generations, which subdues the deep love between Romeo and Juliet. In the famous balcony scene Juliet pours out all her true feelings for Romeo with thinking that Romeo is no there, but actually Romeo is hidden in the …show more content…
In this scene Juliet is at her balcony, dreaming about her love for Romeo and why it’s only his name that keeps them apart. When Juliet says, “O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?”(II.ii.35), it shows how Juliet is asking herself why Romeo has to be Romeo, specifically why does Romeo have to be a Montague. She confesses to herself, “Tis but thy name that is my enemy” (II.ii.40) and that “Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d, retain that dear perfection which he owes without that title.” (II.ii.47-49). To show how much she admires Romeo, Juliet uses powerful words like “perfection” to describe Romeo and words like “deny”, “refuse”, “title”, and “enemy” to describe the name that forestalls these two star-crossed lovers. Juliet also ponders over the question about how a name can affect so much. She says, “What’s Montague? It is nor hand nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man. O, be some other name!”

This shows that Friar Laurence is guilty for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is persuading Romeo to marry Juliet in order to end the feud. Shakespeare vs. Luhrmann

...Romeo and Juliet - Luhrmann vs. Shakespeare It is a well known fact that when ever a movie is made based on a book or play, chances are, the literature will always be preferred. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is arguably one of the greatest tragic love stories ever written. The story of two teenagers who fall helplessly in love with each other but cannot be together on account of the their families rivalry. Many film adaptations of this timeless romance have been made, but one that stood out in particular was Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, which was released in 1996. This certain movie stood out so much since not only was set in a modern era, but still retained the original dialogue from the play. Daggers were replaced with guns, the prince with a cop. The twist of modernization wasn’t the only thing Luhrmann brought to the the table though, he also made some changes to the plot and characters. One change that I felt really added depth to Romeo’s “sensitive” side was when we are shown Romeo writing his feelings in a diary in the beginning of Act 5, Scene 1: In this scene Romeo is basically talking about how he dreams to see Juliet and how the very thought of her makes him so happy. In the original play he states, “Ah me! How sweet is love itself possessed, when but love’s shadows are so rich in joy!” (5.1.10-11). The fact that Romeo was not just saying this but actually writing his thoughts and feelings down in a diary makes him not only look even more romantic...

You may be confused at this point asking, how is he responsible for his own death? Although Romeo was a smart boy, he made some not so smart decisions. One example of this is when he killed Tybalt to avenge his good friend, Mercutio, that Tybalt had killed earlier that day. Romeo and Juliet

...beneficial at times. In the revolutionary tragic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the complicated impact of love is significant on the passionate, violent and often desperate lives of the citizens of Verona. The play emphasizes true love and its consequences between the main characters, Romeo and Juliet, as well as significant others. Shakespeare exhibits love in its many complex forms, demonstrating how true love has significant potential, but it requires heavy sacrifice. Romeo and Juliet are the star crossed lovers who take their own lives; their fate calls them to be together and the role of destiny is a powerful influence from the start of the play. Although the Capulet’s and Montague’s would not approve of their children’s love, Romeo and Juliet are convinced that they can overcome the hatred and feud; they are willing to shed their old lives to be together. Juliet is willing to go to any lengths to pursue her love interest, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name;/ Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,/ and I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (II, ii, 34-36). Juliet experiences a personality change throughout the play as the love she encounters towards Romeo encourages her to rebel against her family whom would not approve of the young lovers relationship. She continues to disreguard parental authority and does not carry through the obedient and sheltered child personality that she originally represents. Her love for Romeo has given her bravery and she is now willing to...
