In the 1680s and 1690s, the witchcraft accusations that were in New England started to grow and make an impact on locations around it. The accusations were that certain people were conducting satanic powers. The most famous event that broke out amidst all of this was the accusations in Salem, Massachusetts. Some girls had claimed themselves possessed by the devil and pointed fingers at other local women of being involved with acts of witchcraft. As this terror spread, more and more women were accused and residents started to live in fear of each other as no one could be trusted. The trials finally ended in 1692 with about 19 residents that were innocent, killed. The teenage girl accusers soon explained that their story was entirely fictional.
