As a double English and Journalism major, I feel like all I hear all day long is the importance of a correctly chosen word. I sometimes feel that as a senior I should have these words down by now, but find myself still making mistakes. I took a writing class in the English department last fall and one of the things Dr. Dayton taught us about was deadwood. She really helped us to start recognizing what deadwood was in our writing and how to cut it out. For me, my dead wood tends to be "very," "just" and "really." I find myself writing either papers or articles and taking my list attempting to cut out as many of those words as possible. I struggle with words like definitive versus definite and find that I often use them incorrectly and interchangeably.
