This essay is about Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury It was published in 1953. It is set in the future and is what the author thinks is going to happen in the future and how life will be different. He thinks that people will no longer read books and that anyone who is caught with a book will have their books burned and they will be killed. The most important theme in Fahrenheit 451 is Government. There are a lot of examples about how much control the government has over people and how much he spies on them and how suspicious he is of everyone.

An important piece of evidence in this is when the government sends a mechanical dog to spy on people who are suspected of having books. This is seen on page 114 “He turned around and saw the mechanical hound there”. This is proof that the government uses more than just humans to spy on people and that people don't know when they are being spied on. So they have to be really cautious. I think …show more content…
An example on this is on page 57 “There was a girl next door, She is gone now. I think she is dead. I think this is because she read books and the government did not like that so she was taken away. This shows how much control he had and how he knew that this girl read books because she was taken away and killed. This is also proof that you don’t know when the government is spying on you so you have got to be really cautious.

The three points are proof that in Fahrenheit 451 government plays an important part in the book because nearly everything that happens in the book has something to do with either spies, or someone being caught with books or someone being suspicious of someone else and so in a way everyone in the book is paranoid of everyone else and so that is why the government sends spies to observe people when they don’t expect it and how no one can really keep anything private in this world because everyone is spying on each

Fahrenheit 451 Research Paper

...What if your house was burned down because you did something illegal, like keeping a shelf full of books? This concept, along with others, is displayed throughout the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Fahrenheit 451 is about a utopia gone wrong and converted into a dystopia due to an over-ruling government and a corrupt society where man’s best friend is his TV. One man, named Guy Montag, is a firefighter who burns books for a living, but learns to disagree with the ways of society when he meets a girl named Clarisse McClellan. Although this society sounds a little strange, our society today can relate, but still differ from their idea of a “correct” society. But in the end, both societies have their own views on the way people should...

Examples Of Allusions In Fahrenheit 451

...Media influence is everywhere: governing the opinions of those that take in its information. As technology becomes more easily obtainable, censorship within media content is frequently used to direct viewers into a certain way of thinking. Literary critics like Peter Sicero, Thomas F. Bertonneau, and Calum Kerr use their literary analyses to examine similar conflicts in Fahrenheit 451. These journals demonstrate the way the government uses television to force viewers to believe what is being fed to them through television programming. Ray Bradbury uses allusions, characterization, foreshadowing and symbolism to demonstrate how the government pressures citizens into like-minded ways of thinking to continually gain power. 'Symbolism In Fahrenheit 451'

...In the book, Fahrenheit 451, they use a lot of symbolism, and most of the symbols have deeper meanings than what they use it as in the book. In Fahrenheit 451 the government wants the city, town, and people to be all the same. The government also does these action pretty harshly by burning house, book, and even sometimes people. So eventually they don't really have any freedom or the chance to actually “live” like normal people. Some of the symbols that are represented are the phoenix, the mirrors, and the mechanical hound. One of the many symbols in the book is the Phoenix. When Ray Bradbury uses it in the book he writes,”“There was a silly damn bird called a phoenix back before Christ, every few hundred years he built a pyre and burnt himself up.But every time he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again,” (163). So basically the deeper meaning is that the government, society, or even just the city...

How Is Technology Used In Fahrenheit 451

...The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, expresses his beliefs about society in a vivid and accurate style. Bradbury uses fictional ideas for his existing time period. Ideas that were thought as insane during the nineteen fifties. As the world progressed further and further, the more the ideas became real. Bradbury expressed his beliefs hoping they would warn the people from the future. Bradbury’s ideas were taken from the thought of technology advancing too fast, yet the ideas were not taken as a warning, therefore leading to technology taking away social life and self thinking. The idea of thimble radios is at the center of social life. The radios in the book are used for constant sounds and news updates. In Fahrenheit 451 Mildred uses the miniature items as sleep aids, yet she does not sleep. “And in her ears the little Seashells, the thimble radios tamped tight, and an electronic ocean of sound, of music and talk and music and talk coming in, coming in on the shore of her unsleeping mind“(Bradbury 5). These thimble radios can be seen as any regular day headphones. Take a look around society and see kids wearing headphones in school, not paying attention. Taking the subway, everyone is wearing headphones. “Results of data collected by the Android app Locket show...

Fahrenheit 451 Quotes Analysis

...ENG 4U 13 May 2015 Fahrenheit 451 Essay The society of Fahrenheit 451 is filled with corruption and betrayal. Governments use technology to control over their people but as the novel shows, it is almost impossible to keep everyone in control. Through Montag’s meeting with Clarisse, Montag’s betrayal against the government, and government’s use of technology thoroughly showed the corrupted society created by the government in the novel, Fahrenheit 451. The protagonist, Guy Montag, also spent his entire life in the corrupted society created by Bradbury. He worked for the government since he was twenty years old for ten years as a fireman. In the novel’s society, fireman’s job was to burn down books. Montag says, “Books make people unhappy, they make them anti-social”. This quote shows how Montag is also part of the corrupted society. “As they walk home together, Clarisse asks Montag about being a fireman. At first, he laughs at her questions, like when she asks why has never read a book. “That’s against the law!” he laughs” (Bradbury 5). This scene shows how books are forbidden from the society. As mentioned above, Montag worked for the government as a fireman since he was twenty years old for ten years. He never questioned or thought about why books were...

Future Theme In Fahrenheit 451

...Ashes of the Future Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury was written in 1950, however it takes place far into the future, even beyond 2014. In this future society, television and radio essentially control the world, and literature is virtually becoming extinct. Firefighters's jobs are to start fires, not put them out. Their mission is to burn all books and the houses they're found in. Guy Montag is one of these firefighters, who is numb to the effects of book burning. He finds joy in the fires and goes about his duties every day, burning books, coming home to his wife, Mildred, who is addicted to her television "family" and sleeping pills. His world is loud and busy, but essentially empty. Eventually, Montag meets his neighbor Clarisse, who is unlike everyone else in that she notices the details in life and the nature all around her, and values the old way of life, including books. Once Montag starts talking to her, he starts to see the flaws in this modern society and wonders what books really contain. This curiosity is heightened even more when he witnesses an old woman die with her books in her house fire because she refused to leave them. Montag begins to collect and read books, which ultimately...

The two books Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding, include characters that possess several distinct characteristics. Those traits either pertain to me or were caught in my interest for incorporation. Those characters include Guy Montag, Ralph, and Mildred. In the story Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag displays courage and bravery which leads him to undergo a period in his life when he sees reality for what it really is then takes action. This is a trait that I lack, a sense of boldness. Guy realizes that the authority, which has control over their society, has created a movement that is irrational. Fahrenheit 451 Research Paper

...Do people really understand their actions if they have been censored their whole life? The answer is no. How can people understand what they are doing wrong if they are never taught what was right. The answer is they don’t understand right from wrong if they have been constantly censored either by the government or just in general. Censorship has negative effects on both an individual and society. Government censorship has a negative effect on the youth in society. An example of censorship affecting an individual and society is in part one of Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse says “I’m afraid of children my own age. They kill each other.” (Bradbury 30). Clarisse is scared of children her age, she is scared to socialize and do things with them because they go around killing each other for fun. They simply don’t understand what they are really doing due to their government censoring them from anything and everything. “The most basic feature of the thought reform environment, the psychological current upon which all else depends, is the control of human communication. Through this milieu control the totalist environment seeks to establish domain over not only the individual's communication with the outside...

Censorship in Fahrenheit 451

...In the book Fahrenheit 451, reading and owning books is illegal. Members of society describe in the book focus on entertainment, immediate, and gratification. If books are found they are burned, and their owner is arrested. If the owner refuses to let the fireman burn the books, as in the case with the old woman, he or she often dies, burning along with the books. People with interests outside technology and entertainment are viewed as strange and odd people. Censorship is one of the major themes presented in Fahrenheit 451. The impact of censorship is illustrated through submission in appearance, behavior, and thought. The association between appearance and social acceptance is already apparent in our daily lives. In order to be accepted in a group of people, we tend to do the things that our peers seem to be doing, and as a result censorship in appearance has become a common example of submission today. In the book Montag realizes that a big part of being a fireman is though appearance. “Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn ‘em to ashes, then burn the ashes. That’s our official slogan.” (pg. 8) Are the words that Montag says to Clarisse while walking. When Montag was saying these words to Clarisse, he was probably saying them to fit in that society, where people that don’t have some interests in technology are considered odd and strange. Between Montag and Clarisse’s conversation, Clarisse happens to ask Guy Montag if he ever read any of the books...

Fahrenheit 451 Mechanical Hound Analysis

...Mechanical Hound played in Fahrenheit 451’s society. The Furies like the Mechanical Hound would punish crimes by pursuing culprits relentlessly. Playing off of this idea, Ray Bradbury shows how society quickly silences the voices of the few and through the mechanical parts of the hound that society is made up of many different people, but he does offer a sense of hope (that can also be seen as false sense of hope) by saying that the hound “sleeps” and that it does not act on it’s own. Although the Hound can be compared to the Furies, Bradbury is able to turn the Greek myth into something more sinister and complicated. Leaving the Hound as an overlooked theme and metaphor. The Furies initial task was to hear the complaints of mortals and then dish...
