Tim’s Coffee Shoppe is in need of some much needed improvements and needs things to run more smoothly. Some of Tim’s problems were customer satisfaction, employee loyalty and marketing. In Sophocles’ Antigone the central theme of this play is the struggle between Antigone and her uncle Creon. The issue of burying Antigone’s brother Polynices is based on the ancient Greek philosophy of death, where any unburied body condemns its soul to torment. Basically, it was the duty of the family to bury their dead. Yet, this issue extended beyond family loyalty to a decree of piety by the gods. However, in the play, Creon goes against this celestial decree because he sees Polynices as a traitor for warring against him as a member of another army. As a means to set an example about the repercussions of disloyalty, Creon issues an edict to leave him unburied. As a man who starts the drama in as the respected king of Thebes, he gradually loses his family, his objectivity, and his power to his stubbornness and hubris that ultimately results in his downfall. In recent years, there has been much controversy over whether or not college athletes should be paid. The argument has primarily consisted of whether or not college athletes deserve special monetary treatment over the other students at universities. “College Football Players Deserve Pay for Play” by Rod Gilmore, “Why Student-Athletes Should Not Be Paid” by Kabir Sawhney, and “The Shame of College Sports” by Taylor Branch all voice their opinions on this argument. I believe college athletes should have their full tuition, meals, room and board paid for; but I do not think the school should necessarily be responsible for paying the athletes especially since so many are not responsible with their money. Basically, I believe that the school should not be responsible for giving these student athletes money. In many cases, these athletes walk around campus with rock star status anyway. If they were paid it would further that perception that they were something other than simply a student athlete. If they were to be paid, many of the athletes would simply waste that money on their wants, and not save it for their necessities. Calvert Summary Marketing and advertising support the U.S. economy by promoting the sale of goods and services to consumers, both adults and children. Sandra Calvert addresses product marketing to children and shows that although marketers have targeted children for decades, two recent trends have increased their interest in child consumers. First, both the discretionary income of children and their power to influence parent purchases have increased over time. Second, as the enormous increase in the number of available television channels has led to smaller audiences for each channel, digital interactive technologies have simultaneously opened new routes to narrow cast to children, thereby creating a growing media space just for children and children’s products. Calvert explains that paid advertising to children primarily involves television spots that feature toys and food products, most of which are high in fat and sugar and low in nutritional value.
