How does my organization resemble a "political system" as outlined by Morgan?
In my last organization I can truly say that it was a political system, everything had to be done the way a single person wanted it and it would change day by day. It was almost like you were imprisoned when you arrived to work because it was all about what the supervisor wanted you to do, and not what you thought should have been done. I never understood the dynamic until
I attended this class and read more into Morgan’s metaphors. In a government agency, conflict and power is very evident. When individuals are trying to climb the ladder to promotion some become blindsided by the will to get what they want however they can.
A lot of personnel had a lot of different opinions, but in order for those opinions to be heard by higher management, you first had to get approval from your immediate supervisor before you could voice it. We all had different interests which made the conflict a little harder to deal with from time to time, and it became quite clear when the power plays started because people would use their title to get what they wanted completed.
My past organization was most definitely a “political system”, I really didn’t understand it when
I experienced, it I just chalked it up as people being mean and abusing their power. Now I see that this probably happens in all types of business not just government.
