My experiments question is to see if the temperature of water will affect the carbonation of soda, therefore causing it to become flat. First let’s start by understanding what carbonation in drinks is. To make drinks carbonated you need two things, carbon dioxide gas and water. Man made water that gets carbonated artificially is referred to as Seltzer water. This type of soda is very popular and provides a good change over other sugary carbonated drinks. This mixture is also known to relieve symptoms of digestive upset. Seltzer does not hurt your teeth, benefits your digestion, and lowers risk of heart disease. It can also be just as hydrating as regular water. For people who love carbonated sodas it can provide the carbonation people love …show more content…
Also that water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Water molecules are made of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. The solubility of carbon dioxide in water is temperature dependent. There is more CO2 in colder water over warmer water. All sodas are super-saturated with CO2 which is what gives them their fizz. When drinks are assembled at the bottling plant, the CO2 is applied into the soda at high pressure and is kept that way during shipping by keeping the cap on the bottle. Once you open the bottle, the CO2 is released, the rate the CO2 is released faster if the soda is warm. It is released slower if the beverage is kept at a colder temperature. So with this known information it seems that a drink of carbonation that is kept warmer will have less CO2 and therefore be more flat. Drinks that contain carbonation but do not contain alcohol or less than 0.5% of the total volume are known as soft drinks. Drinks that contain carbonation and more alcohol than 0.5% of the total volume are known as hard drinks. Soft drinks are one of many categories of drinks that contain carbonation.
