Beauty and brutality exist in everyday life.
There are many examples of beauty and brutality throughout the book for instance, the power of words, sacrifice and the difference between needs and wants.

For some people there escape is travelling, sports, or even animals but for Liesel its books. “ she bent down and picked it up and held it firmly in her fingers, the book had silver writing on it”. (Zusak 24) The power of words starts to affect Liesel when she found the gravedigger's handbook because that was the last big memory she had with her mother and her brother. Liese was forced into a new life and that book was home in her mind. The power of words also affects Liesel negatively. “It was a label she did not understand. She heard it several times in the past few years. Communist”. (Zusak 31) Every time she heard that word she was reminded of how her mother and her father were most likely dead because of who they were. In conclusion, this is an example of how beauty and brutality corresponds to the power of words. …show more content…
“she wasn't delivering her children to the higher echelons of Munich,but a foster home had apparently been found, and if nothing else, the new family could at least feed the girl and the boy a little better, and educate them properly”.(Zusak 25) Liesel's mom knew that she couldn't support her children any more and give them a good life so she had to send them away for their own good. “There was the chaos of goodbye”(Zusak 25). Saying goodbye was the hardest part because she doesn't really know what is going to happen to her daughter after she says goodbye.
