Introduction
In all aspects of life, from the professional world to family interactions, good thinkers help solve problems. For 40 years, John C. Maxwell has studied and analyzed successful people and how they think. He has concluded that the way successful people approach the thought process is a key differentiator. In How Successful People Think, Maxwell discusses the 11 skills that good thinkers exhibit and describes how to adopt these skills. Maxwell recommends keeping it in a place where it will stimulate further thinking. 2. Spending time with good thinkers. Maxwell believes that to become a sharp thinker, a person must spend time with sharp people and observe how they think. 3. Thinking good thoughts. The thinking process is a discipline. As a result, it is important to make thinking a priority and to regularly take time to generate and develop thoughts. 4. Acting on good thoughts. The window of opportunity to act on promising thoughts is short. When a good thought arises, it is important to act on it quickly. 5. Allowing emotions to create another good thought. Critical Analysis of How Successful People Think

...Critical Analysis In the article How Successful People Think, Roger Martin explores the way successful leaders come to new ideas and solutions to their problems by embracing “integrative thinking”. He explains it as having a capacity to hold two opposite ideas at once and finding a middle ground that is superior to both. Even though this article was published in Harvard Business Review and it’s target is educated audience (mostly in business field), language and style of writing are articulate and clean. Author does not use over technical words or examples that common person wouldn’t know. Title is bold, bright and hard to miss. Pictures are set up to be inviting and on the point (brain, light bulb). Writer is targeting people who have a wish to improve their leadership skills and recognizes that this quality is spread throughout all social classes and educational levels. His tone is light, supportive, conversational and readers can tell that author is personally involved in the subject: “… wisely, I might add…”,”…I have interviewed…”. In conclusion of the article Mr. Martin’s voice turns even more declamatory: “But I refuse to believe that the ability to use our opposable minds is a gift reserved for minority of people…” Roger Martin is the dean of the Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto. His passion for the subject is undeniable, but evidence he presents appears personal, weak and contradictory. He claims that “…(successful leaders) share somewhat unusual...

6 Weird Habits of Successful People

...6 Weird Habits Of Successful People December 18, 2012 We call people weird because they do things differently than we would. Seth Godin wears those brightly colored but mismatched socks. Steve Jobs’ work uniform was a black turtleneck and jeans. Look around and you can see the obvious differences in a lot of successful people. What most business owners don’t see when they look at successful people are the habits they’ve developed. Leonard DaVinci slept two hours at a time in four-hour intervals. Charles Dickens would only write and sleep facing north. Some of their weirdness was superstition, but a lot of it wasn’t. Here are six weird habits of successful people. 1.They think backward. Successful people start at the finish. Most of us have been taught to take one step, then the next, and the next until we arrive at our destination or goal. But successful people, like rocket scientists, actually clearly define the outcome they want first, and then reverse engineer the steps they need to take to get there. 2. They like to repeat themselves, a lot. They repeat themselves a lot. If you’re pre-vinyl and never heard a broken record, think “repeat” or “loop.” Successful people don’t stop when they have a success. When they succeed, they try to figure out ways to repeat that success. 3. They cut corners. Once successful people figure out how to repeat success, then they figure out how to get the same result faster, easier and cheaper. There’s a fine line between cutting corners...

Okonkwo’s suicide was caused by a mix of the European missionaries and Okonkwo’s own characterization. Okonkwo never learns from his mistakes, he always thinks what he does is always right no matter what. All he knows came from his childhood and younger years. Unoka is disrespected among the society. The culture values physical strength, achievement, and masculinity. Unoka represents the opposite of these values, he enjoys expressing himself through words and music, he’s a very talented musician. Okonkwo learns that these qualities are not what the tribe values. Okonkwo grows up being the opposite of his father, he becomes the best wrestler, he’s physically strong, and represents hyper masculinity. Okonkwo also becomes a very successful farmer, but after a bad harvest due to bad, inconsistent weather Unoka tells his son “‘do not despair. I know you will not despair. ...of scale and have their costs fall and their output increase. Even though the goal, if achieved, would be an advantage in the media market, there are some disadvantages to making this transition and there are challenges as well. Taking a foreign assignment in a global economy, would be a new challenge that would be bring about conflict if it were not approached and handled in the correct way. Furthermore, a foreign assignment would become a harder situation if an ethnocentric attitude were to be present by the person being assigned. Taking a foreign assignment in a global economy would require patience, innovation, assimilation, understanding, apathy, and a true understanding of the culture and the people that reside in the country that the assignment is in. Being successful requires promoting products and services that are of interest in that particular country and are in demand in that particular economy. There are cultural values and differences that have to be understood to truly understand what would be of valuable that a company could offer in a foreign country. This learning and understanding would require patience as there are values and cultural differences that were learned from before and excusing those and not wanting to push those as the agenda would be a challenge. Innovation would be required to be able to change and “morph” the company’s products and services into something that is unique to that country. The challenge comes as the company needs to switch from...

Leadership

... Leadership When I think about the concept and definition of the word “leader”, a good deal of people, things and ideas come to mind. I am a firm believer that one must have certain qualities in order to be a successful leader. I also have confidence in the fact that, as humans, we lead by example. One of the most important characteristics I think an effective leader must possess is selflessness. A leader must not be selfish with desires, but solely interested in the needs of others. How can we lead if we are only focused on what we can profit? Effective leadership also comes from intentionality. How can we truly put our whole self into everything that we do? Leaders must intentional with actions, words and people. As we become more intentional, we provide ourselves a new way of thinking and a fresh understanding of all aspects of life. As previously stated, I am fully certain that humans lead by example. In my sophomore year of high school I started getting heavily involved in a program known as YoungLife. When I started, I had no idea how much of a bearing YoungLife would have in my life. YoungLife is a remarkable program that meets high school students where they’re at, and aspires to show students Jesus. Through YoungLife I have met three of the most amazing, role model leaders that I hope to have in my life for eternity. I think that as a successful and effective leader you must have wholesome communication skills. I also think that appreciation and communication...

Like inside two literature stories Shooting an Elephant and Everyday Use, Alice Walker and George Orwell both show how identity is connected to how we see ourselves in the present. In the story Shooting an Elephant, the main character is a policeman in British Burma. He received a report about a local man was death who killed by an elephant. When he arrived the place, he finds the elephant is no longer dangerous. He knows as a humanity, he shouldn’t kill the elephant since it does not cause a threat anymore. Leadership Qualities

...Leader Ledership Essay An efficient leader is defined as a person who is followed by the others. Besides that, a leader has to know about the human nature, and be able to direct people reducing the group's doubts about succeeding. Some people believe that a leader is born that way and there is no way, practicing or studying, to create a leader. They are wrong because inside of each and every one of us there is a leader waiting to be awake and holding on an opportunity to come out. A leader is capable of influencing and inspiring the people around him to voluntarily commit towards accomplishing a certain goal. There are different types of leadership people who specialize in trying to understand this important phenomenon. The only kind of leadership in which a person communicates true self are by way resonates with other people. This behavior is highly individual and situational for both the leader and follower and therefore there are a huge variety of ways in which effective leadership occurs. On top of that, when we think about the characteristic of a leader, we often think of leaders that are dynamic, which makes each of us to follow. We could take an example, such as Hitler.  He did not have the values that we should follow, but he had that inspiration for the country to follow.  If we also stop to think about the leaders today, we do not get the same vision of a leader that has a dynamism that is hard to resist, but rather a leader that has a good quality.  The characteristics...

The Good Life

...success means to them. Some people believe that money and/or expensive material items determine how successful a person is. Other people believe that success is measured by how happy a person is with his or her life, by measuring their job satisfaction or their family life. I believe that a person is truly successful when he or she has lived their life to the fullest and is completely content with where they have wound up in the end and has no regrets. In this brief essay I will be telling you about my view on true success in life. I will start off by telling you why material success could be included in my opinion, then I will tell you why a good quality of life is a big part, and finally I will tell you my exact view on what I want my future to look like so that I know that I have, in my opinion, had a successful life. First, I will begin with some of the material items that some people think they need to be successful and why. People that think they need material items to be successful in life probably will not go a day in their life without working and on top of that they will probably end up hating their job. This however will not change their view on what it means to be successful. There is no doubt that they will be happy with the beach house in Florida or the million dollar Lamborghini Maserati, but for what exactly? To be miserable at the job that has gotten you to this point in life. All of that sounds absolutely fantastic, but these people probably do not have kids...
