...When I turned sixteen I knew exactly what car I wanted, my dad’s four door red Jeep Wrangler, fully knowing it was a manual. Little did I know it would take me a year to figure out how to drive it. Manual cars also go by a “straight” or a stick shift. This type of car can be found frustrating to drive but, it is more fuel efficient and exhilarating to drive. Before one begins to attempt to drive a manual: one must a have a manual car, and open area large enough to drive in, and an open mind. Driving a manual car is just like driving an automatic, just with an extra metal, a gear shift, and some coordination. If one has never driven a manual before, have a trained driver drive the car to the practice area. Before starting to drive, relax, being stressed will only make the learning process worse. To begin find a safe place to drive; a place that does not have a lot of traffic and is flat. A rookie does not want to find themselves in a hilly area their first time driving a manual. To become familiar with car get in and at once put the seat belt on. Push the far left pedal in and the brake and put the vehicle in neutral, which is the center of the gear shift, and...

...environment thinking about the future of our planet. In 1900 the first gas-electric hybrid car came to life and was driven at the first National Automobile Show in New York City, United States and surprisingly this car model was favored as patrons’ first choice. Unlike it was known the model came to life in 1900 but the idea was born in the early 20th century for reasons that are different than those famous in the 21st century. Feeling cars were too noisy and smelly Jacob Lohner from Vienna created the first hybrid car in coalition with the Austrian engineer, Ferdinand Porsche...

...save you money by helping you to avoid breaking the law, receiving a traffic citation, and having to pay the penalty. But more important, what you are about to read can easily save your life… or someone else's. A. THE SERIOUS RESPONSIBILITY OF OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE When you get behind the driver seat, you’re not just driving a car. You are driving a 2,000 pound plus piece of machinery. The lives of your passengers and all other drivers and pedestrians around you on the road are at risk. Driving is the most dangerous thing you do on a daily basis. One little mistake at any speed, whether at 65 mph or 35 mph, can be deadly. As a driver, your responsibility is not only to respect the law but also to appreciate the risks when you operate your vehicle, risks both to yourself and to the other drivers with whom you share the road. Yes, the key word here is SHARE. 1. MOTOR VEHICLE IS A WEAPON You don‘t believe that? Any object that weighs as much as a car does and is fueled by 20 gallons of a flammable liquid while moving down the street at 50 feet per second has the power to do some serious damage. Remember all weapons, including cars, can kill people. The problem is that we have become so used to driving our vehicles, that we tend to take them for granted. If you get up every morning at the same time, get dressed the same...

...Friction is what happens when any two things rub against each other. These can be solid things, like your two hands rubbing together, or your skis rubbing on the snow, or a hammer hitting a nail, or they can be gases, like friction with the air slowing down your car, or liquids, like friction with the water slowing down a boat. Nobody completely understands what causes friction. Partly, friction happens when the rough edges of one object snag on the rough edges of another object, and some of the objects' energy has to be used to break off those rough edges so the objects can keep moving. And when you rub two soft things together, like your hands, sometimes they squish into each other and get in each other's way. But even completely smooth, hard things have some friction. This friction is the result of the molecules in both objects being attracted to each other. We know how to make more friction or less friction, and how to predict how much friction there will be. There's more friction when the two objects are pushed together harder. If you push your hands together, it's harder to rub them up and down. If you pull the brake lever harder, your bike will stop faster. Because gravity pulls harder on things with more mass, things with more mass have more friction and are harder to move - a cube of iron will be harder to move than a cube of wood. Two solid things usually have more friction than two liquid things, or one liquid thing and a solid - that's why you slip on a wet surface...

...to learn how to properly operate one. Although operating a manual transmission or stick shift is thought to be an arduous task to perform by a vast majority of our population, it can be perfected by anybody through enough practice and dedication. To properly operate a manual transmission the same steps should be followed every time. Before getting started there are a few parts that you have to become familiar with that are not on an automatic transmission vehicle. The first part is a gear box that is usually located in between the two front seats of a vehicle. The gear box contains a stick shift...

...Virtual Lab: Stopping Distance of a Car Question: How can we determine the deceleration rate of a virtual car? How does reaction time affect the stopping distance of a car? Go to this website: http://higheredbcs.wiley.com/legacy/college/halliday/0471320005/simulations6e/index.htm?newwindow=true and on the left side of the screen select “Stopping Distance of a Car” Introduction: In this virtual experiment, a yellow sports car is coming to a stop from some initial velocity. On the left of the screen below the car you see a position vs. time and velocity vs. time graph of the motion. On the right of the screen below the car you are given lots of information about the car’s motion: time, distance covered, speed, distance traveled before braking, distance traveled after braking, and total stopping distance. Follow the instructions for the lab and answer questions as you proceed. Instructions: 1. Load up the Java Lab from the website shown above. 2. On the left side of the screen select “Stopping Distance of a Car” 3. Before you start recording data for the lab, “play” around with the buttons at the bottom of the screen and see what they do. (Play, pause, reset, step back, step forward.) 4. When you feel comfortable, hit the “clear trace” button and go on to procedure 1. Procedure-Part 1 Reset/clear trace and have the initial speed is set at 80 km/hr, the reaction time is 0.10 s, and the coefficient of friction is equal to 1.00. Answer the...

...CHASSIS 1 INTRODUCTION “Chassis” a French term which means the complete Automobiles without Body and it includes all the systems like power plant, transmission, steering, suspension, wheels tyres, auto electric system etc. A vehicle without body is called as a chassis. If Body is also attached to it them it is known as the particular vehicle as per the shape and design of the body. 1.1 BASIC LAYOUT OF CHASSIS FRAME Figure 1 Chassis layout Figure 1 shows the layout of chassis. It shows that the engine is located at the front end of the vehicle. It is connected to the gear box through clutch. The drive of the engine can be connected or disconnected from the gearbox with the help of the clutch pedal. From the gearbox, the power is transmitted to the differential through propeller shaft and finally to the wheels via rear axles. 2 MAIN COMPONENTS OF CHASSIS 2.1 FRAME The frame is the main part of the chassis on which remaining parts of chassis are mounted. The frame should be extremely rigid and strong so that it can withstand shocks, twists, stresses and vibrations to which it is subjected while vehicle is moving on road. It is also called under body. The frame is supported on the wheels and tyre assemblies. The frame is narrow in the front for providing short turning radius to front wheels. It widens out at the rear side to provide larger space in the body. 2.1.1 FUNCTIONS OF FRAME 1. To carryall the stationary loads attached to it and loads of passenger...
