...3/19/14 eng-111 How to Behave on a First Date Everyone has their personal opinions on how someone should behave on a first date. Now, whether it is for a male or female my top three things that a person should do on a first date are the following: make a good first impression , have good communication, and last but not least have some type of manners. A good first impression is all or nothing on a first date. I personally would not want to go on a first day with someone who looks like they just got attacked by a bunch of monkeys . On a first date one must look their personal best. What if you got asked out on a date with someone and on the day of the date they look super tacky and their hygiene is not at their and they just do not look attractive , right you would just want to leave and go home and call it the worst first date of your life. that is why first impression is a must on a first date. good communication is the key to a great relationship. So, why not get off to a great start by doing that on a first date. Don't be a rather boring person , both females and males hate having a boring date. spice things up have funny conversations about each other's childhoods or ask common "getting to know each other " questions . communication is great, it gives opportunity for both to express themselves and let each person see how one another's personality is. Last but manners are everything and more on a first date . once my friend and I went on double date. My then boyfriend...

...Essay Writing (How to Ask Someone Out For a Date) Everybody fears rejection on asking someone out for a date; otherwise, there is no school for that kind of lesson. Actually we have to risk the possibility of rejection every once in a while in order to get the things we want. Asking someone out for a date would be easy without losing your sense of confidence and self-worth if you follow all of these steps below. First and foremost, being friendly with the person that you want to ask for a date is the key. Make eye contact and smile at the person, so this will show the person that you are interested in them, and give them the opportunity to return the gesture, showing that they are too interested. If the person looks away or doesn’t smile back, they might not be interested. However, it might also mean that they are too shy to reciprocate, so don’t give up quite yet. Find out what he or she likes if possible. This will help you think of good idea for a date. If this person loves music, find out what kind and invite them to a concert. ...Verduzco 1 Jocelyn Verduzco Amber Gillis English A 3 March 2015 How to get out of a bad date I think we have all heard it before, to be careful when you meet someone online and then see each other in real life because not everything seems like his profile picture or his bio. But we are very stubborn woman and we always learn the hard way. Well that was what happened to me and it starts with when we both agreed to finally meet. The day when I met him in person I seriously needed to reevaluate everything and say, “On second thought, I’m not really into online dating anymore”. Before my eyes was a man about four feet seven, and I am a five feet eight female, the irony is real. I surely couldn’t tell him in the face that he was a lying, ugly, and old man when it clearly said in his bio he was 24, and I am 21 YEAR OLD! In his profile picture he had a resemblance of Channing Tatum, but here in front of me he resembles papa smurf. I’m no model but I have to admit, I am easy on the eyes, with my blonde silky hair, and charming personality, but enough about me and my gracious good looks. He then motions for me to go inside the restaurant we are meeting at, which is McDonalds by the way, and of course he picked it. And the creepiest part, he couldn’t stop staring at me, and he had some sort of allergies which had him sneezing every five minutes, and I couldn’t eat my cheeseburger in peace. He kept saying jokes that were old as his soul and I kept awkwardly chuckling. That was it...

...Junot Diaz’s “ How to Date a Brown Girl (Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie)” is revolved around the idea of a young hispanic teenage boy, Yunior, who breaks down ideas in regards to preparing to date. Within this story, Diaz narrates how the Yunior feels the needs to hide aspects of his life from his “dates” depending on their race in order to impress them. Keeping in mind different ethnicities act and respond to situations. Even though many may think Yunior’s actions demonstrates how he may be ashamed, but Yunior hides who he is because he is more afraid of rejection from girls. One of the first things that Yunior hides is the government cheese. “Clear the government cheese from the refrigerator. If the girl's from the Terrace stack the...

...What are you looking for in a relationship? In not just a variety of studies, it seems that men and women differ towards wanting a relationship with the opposite sex. The stereotype about relationships is that every girl wants to be in a one, but guys just want to get laid. In the story of How to Date a Brown Girl, by Junot Diaz, describes how a boy and how he judges each girl by race and their willingness to give it up. The guy's mindset is different from the girl’s mindset about being with a special someone. Racism and subjecting a whole group, like gender, has clouded people’s judgment on others before they even get to know and understand them. Everyone grows up differently with different family backgrounds and wealth. No matter what race, religion, poor or rich background we come from, we are all human and we want to be treated the same. All people might be categorized by race but everybody has based their opinions on their own experiences....

...An often debated topic regarding fiction writing is whether the construction of a story, or the content of a story makes the reading interesting. It is my position that the content of a story makes a piece worth-while. I will argue this point using information from the stories; “How to Date…” by Junot Diaz, “Spiderman Summer” by Laura Brodie, and “Child of God” by Geoff Wyss. I will discuss how the characters, plot and themes all contribute to making these fiction pieces worth reading. I feel that the stories share a mutual theme in that the protagonists each share an obsession of some sort. In the story “How to Date…Yunior, the protagonist is a teenage boy who shows an obsession with having sex with girls. He details a pretty in-depth...

...ENGL 2201 Essay #1 Due 10/8/14 “How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie” by Junot Diaz “How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie” is a short story by Junot Diaz. The short story takes the semblance of an instructional manual, or guide, asserting guidance as to how to act or behave depending upon the ethnicity and social class of the reader’s date. Diaz’s dating guide, aimed toward teenage males, accomplishes authority of knowledge by delivering the short story in second person. It can easily be concluded that the narrator is to be a teenage boy, Yunior, whom the story is centered around. Yunior is trying to win impress and win over the local girls, hoping to get sexual favors in return. Nonetheless, because of his background and culture, he knows he has to withdraw his identity in order to please a white girl or a “halfie”. In the story, it can be implied that a halfie is person of mixed ethnicity. You see the numerous scopes of this one character, all transported out by race. Diaz gives directions about meal accommodations, politeness toward the date’s parent, hygiene, and household cleanliness. Basically, these directions are administered in effects to win over the young lady. Certainly, Diaz is not afraid to assert trivial signs that disclose ethnic insolences, even if they diminish Dominican ethnicity. Certainly, there is a power relationship of race in “How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie”. Color is an immense...

...Lessons from the Alpha Male: “How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie” by Junot Diaz Every red-blooded American male reaches a zenith in his life when he has finally joined the company of men, and been deemed worthy to receive a lifetime of collected wisdom and tutelage from his elder “packmates”. This knowledge comes in both lewd and often brutally honest sentiments that can induce feelings of excitement and unabashed shame, but regardless of the emotions evoked, it is a necessary rite of passage signifying a young man’s entrance into the world of his peers. This transformation and the hesitance involved is masterfully scripted in Junot Diaz’s “How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie”. The dialogue that plays out in this story is remarkably descriptive but demonstrates often the characterizations we accept as young men that masquerade as truths and become almost necessary for our acceptance by our gender. Diaz removes the veil on this time in a young man’s life and allows the reader into a world of confusion, pressure, and eagerness which highlights the extraneous difficulties of being both male and a minority in America during these crucial formative years. In life, the first step of any journey begins with preparation and Diaz opens his story with an older male, which who believe to be a friend, instructing a younger pupil on how to organize and clean his house in accordance with the economic status of the girl he will be having over...
