...William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, the untimely death of two star-crossed lovers ends a long time family feud. Romeo and Juliet were let down by one particular adult in their lives but for the most part they contributed to their own demise. Whilst Romeo and Juliet brought it upon themselves, Friar Lawrence most certainly caused their situation to be far worse than it needed to be. Romeo and Juliet brought this upon themselves and for the most part let themselves down. They knew that their families did not get along and knew that what they were doing was wrong. If they had not interfered with the whole family feud then maybe none of this would’ve happened. Knowing that they were on rival sides of the family made the situation much worse. From the quote “But to his foe supposed he must complain, And she steal love’s sweet bait from fearful hooks. Being held a foe, he may not have access to breathe such vows as lovers use to swear” it is obvious that this romance should never have happened. The use of the words “steal” and “fearful” confirm the fact that they shouldn’t have tried so hard to be together. Friar Lawrence, who is a priest and responsible adult, lets Romeo and Juliet down by trying to help them be together when perhaps the more appropriate action should have been to discourage a situation that really was a disaster waiting to happen. His plan was to trick everybody, except Romeo, into thinking that Juliet is dead and once she is buried...

...If Benvolio had ever made it mantua Romeo would have knew that Juliet was faking her death and he wouldn't have thought that she had actually killed herself. If he had gotten the letter from Juliet he could have met up with her when she woke up when they could have went to mantua together. Since Benvolio had gotten sick and got held back from Mantua, Romeo never received the letter from Juliet. Once he saw that what he thought was Juliet dead, he drank the rest of the poison and died to be with her. After Juliet woke up and seen Romeo was dead she stabbed herself with his dagger. If Romeo received the letter from Benvolio, Romeo wouldn’t have killed Paris either. If Rosalina loved Romeo in the beginning of the story like Romeo loved her, Romeo would have never fell in love with a Capulet. If Romeo was prevented from falling in love with Juliet, Romeo would still be in Verona, not kicked out. Also, Paris would still be alive. Mercutio and Tybalt wouldn’t have gotten into a fight and wouldn’t have died. If Rosalina would have loved Romeo, they would have gotten married without it being a secret since Rosalina is a Montague like Romeo. The conflict between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s would still be an issue....

...In the story of Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy occurs between two star crossed lovers in which the result is both of their lives are taken from them. Many people have debated on the subject of whose fault it actually is, but the person who needs to take most of the blame for what happened is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence was the wise advisor to Romeo and Juliet, and he also was the adult in the situation. Even though not even all adults make the right decisions, he should have handled the whole situation better. For example, he should not have married the couple together because of how young and immature they both are. The Friar wasn’t thinking very well with the decision he make to join the two together, especially after how much trouble he...

...I believe that Romeo and Juliet were not in love, and throughout the play it was merely lust. There love was doomed from the start. Not only did they rush their feelings, but their families hated each other. Juliet was set to marry another man that her father gave approve of, Paris and with the secretivity of Romeo and Juliet's marriage there's not many ways it could have lasted. Juliet wasn't the only one that was preoccupied with plans for the future, Romeo was madly in love with Roselin. “Out of her favor, where I am in love.” (Romeo I. II. 158) Juliet didn’t want much to do with Paris, while Romeo wanted everything to do with Roselin, mostly to bed her. Also, Juliet was extremely skeptical about marriage and the thought of having to...

...Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare, is a play which shows how prejudice leads to escalating violence. Prejudice leads to violence shown in the play when the feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets fight. In each case, disruption, fighting, injuries and death occur. Also, the prejudice against the two families never got resolved because they were enemies. The prejudice started in Act one Scene one, when the Capulets and Montague servants confronted each other. Then the Capulets servants insult the Montagues. Which lead to a street brawl of the two feuding families. Furthermore in Act three Scene one, the prejudice between the families get worse. When Tybalt wanted revenge with the Montagues, he then confronted Romeo and Mercutio and started a duel. In addition the prejudice between families got even worse, when Tybalt kills Mercutio. Also, in Act five Scene three, Tybalt challenges Romeo to fight and Romeo kills him. Which lead to prejudice between the families. The street in Verona, a public place, is where the prejudice starts between the two families. In Act one Scene one, Sampson and Gregory servants for the Capulets, insulted the Montagues servants Balthasar and Abraham by biting his thumb at him. This leads to a fight, which involves the Lord’s of both families and the Prince. No death occurred, but the families attitudes against each other were worse then before. Which caused a lot of prejudice against the...

...Romeo and Juliet was William Shakespeare’s last play, and quite possibly one of his most popular. There are many hidden themes and metaphors, one of which is fate. This play is about 2 teenages from feuding families that fall into a forbidden love, and the plot of this play describes the issues they run into and the hoops they jump through in order to be together. In this story, Shakespeare uses the age and timeline of the story to show the theme of fate through misdelivery of Friar Lawrence’s letter, the resolution between the Montagues and the Capulets, and the love between Romeo and Juliet that lead to suicide. One event that was prudent to the future of Romeo and Juliet was the delivery of Friar Lawrence’s letter, which was quite unforgiving when it came...

...and Men and Romeo and Juliet “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.” This was said by Muhammad Ali talking about how being in relationships, romantic or not, are not something that is black or white. There are no rules that state what is right or wrong, or what can and cannot be done. The main characters in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men represent the love found in a friendship. George and Lennie are best friends who travel together to find work in order to earn enough money to make their dream of owning their own land come true. In Soledad, California,...

...Romeo and Juliet Everybody makes bad decisions somewhere in their life, even if some people end up making ones worse a lot earlier in their life. Therefore, Juliet was the most responsible for her and Romeo’s death because she was impatient, impulsive and immature. To begin, Juliet’s impatience had only started to show after she happened to meet Romeo at the party being thrown at her house. One of the biggest acts of impatience in both her and Romeo is how badly they both want to get married. This is mostly shown during the famous balcony scene where Juliet says, “Th’ exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine.” (2.2.134) Both Romeo and Juliet only spoke once before this, meaning that they have known each other for less than an hour and knew barely anything about the other. For Juliet to have already felt the need to propose to Romeo is incredibly impatient and foolish thinking. Therefore, Juliet’s impatience was one of the most important reasons to...

...Life Long Relationship? Love or Infatuation? Both are demonstrated by relationships in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and Romeo + Juliet by William Shakespeare. Infatuation is an intense but short-lived passion or admiration for someone or something, which is exactly what Romeo and Juliet experience, and love is best defined as an intense feeling of deep affection, and love is what George and Lennie have in their relationship. Since George and Lennie love each other, George and Lennie have a better relationship than Romeo and Juliet because they have been friends for a long time and they know each other better, they are loyal to one another, but not too loyal, and their relationship didn’t hurt anyone around them. George and...

...responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is being ambitious, ignorant, and careless. To begin with, Friar Laurence tries convincing Romeo that the feud between their families will end if he marries Juliet. “ In one respect i’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households’ rancour to pure love” (2.3.93-95). This shows that Friar Laurence is guilty for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is persuading Romeo to marry Juliet in order to end the feud. He should know that them getting married will only make it worse for them because they are getting married in a secret and their families are feuding and would not approve. Friar should be acting like the older and wiser adult...

...Immaturity: the Real Poison in Romeo and Juliet In William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is a tragic hero with the tragic flaw of immaturity. His immaturity is demonstrated countless times in this love story; he weeps because Rosaline does not return his love, and he hastily kills Tybalt without reflecting on the consequences. If Romeo had properly thought through some of the potential consequences prior to resorting to such extreme measures to see Juliet again, Romeo and Juliet most likely would not have met such a tragic ending. Lastly, the marriage of Romeo to Juliet was impulsive and again lacked forethought. They “fall in love” before even getting to know one another and they fail to think through their situation before getting married without their parents’ consent. There are many examples where Romeo lacks maturity. For example, when he is muddled because Rosaline does not return his affection. Romeo says, “O, teach me how I should forget to think!” (Shakespeare, 1. 1. 217). He is unable to take his mind off Rosaline. A more mature man could do so. Another example occurs when the hopeless romantic is ranting wistfully based only on his experience with Rosaline, “Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn” (Shakespeare, 1. 4. 25-26). Romeo’s negative view of love based on a single experience demonstrates his lack of maturity. Finally, Romeo’s breakdown over Rosaline greatly impacts the plot. “At this...

...Hershberger, Rusty Dwinell Period 1 3/9/12 Romeo and Juliet different love in a different time This essay is all about the different types of love mentioned In the book. The book Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare takes place in the late sixteenth century in the Italian city of Verona. In the book, Romeo and Juliet meet at a party and instantly fall in love, even though they are from feuding families. There love causes many deaths, including there own, but in the end the two families, the Capulets and Montagues, end their feud while mourning for the two lost teens. Shakespeare talks about many types of love but this essay will include platonic, Romantic, and familial even though there are many other types of love mentioned in the play. The first type of love is platonic. Platonic love is the love between friends and it can usually be a very good and helpful thing especially when some one is getting over a former girlfriend like Romeo is in the book. The first time you see Romeo's friends helping him is when Benvolio and Marcutio are trying to convince Romeo to go to the Capulets party (1.4). This was good for Romeo for a few reasons one is that his friends are trying to help him get over Rosalin who Romeo had been dating until they broke up just before the story starts. When the story starts and we first see Romeo he seems very sad about his "break up" with Rosalin (1.2 166-244). In this scene we found Romeo sitting alone and when Benvolio goes to talk to...
