Going to college? Ok, and what do you expect to get out of college? You probably think you know what differentiates high school from college but, I can assure you that you have no idea. From living situations to time management, college is different roller coaster but, it is on your shoulders on how you handle it. This transition is not going to be easy to deal with, for you nor your parents. Now at this point you might be thinking "Where will I go?", "What should I wear?", "Will people like me?” etc. but, in reality none of that matters. There are more than a dozen rules in which you may need to actually survive your freshman year of college but, the two factors in which you’ll need the most guidance from is the Freshman Facebook page and roommates. Before you pack up almost everything that you own: clothes, shoes, and photos of everybody you know… one of the first things you’ll likely do after enrolling in school is join the Freshman Facebook Page for your class. ...The Successful Student Some people never learn effective study habits in high school. Thus, they may struggle through their first semester of college. A student should figure out how he studies the best; many people cannot create a quality essay at four in the morning with the music playing and the television on. Although poor study habits may cause the student to struggle, which results in unhappiness, he can become connected by joining clubs, music groups, or sports that will help a person make more friends while balancing his life, thus making him a happier student. So, students should get involved! School does not have to be just about schoolwork. One should find an activity that his school offers, and he should join if his schedule allows. Yet, some people have a harder time adjusting to school than other people and may feel that success is impossible. However, a student can be successful in many ways, such as by being on time for class, keeping an assignment notebook, and managing his time. For a student to be successful, he must begin by getting to class on time. To do this, he should make next morning preparations on the night before, such as ironing his garments on the night before class; this will save him at least five to ten minutes in the morning, and he may use that time to read the newspaper or take out the garbage. He also should put gasoline in his vehicle after he runs his final errand for the day; this Kelly 2 simple task will prevent him from...

American Prep Research Paper

...The biggest component of the Grad at Grad for me was being open to growth. If I didn't have that conversation with my friend who knows were I would be. Sophomore year my depression and anxiety really loosened up and I was excelling in school. I was open to the idea of extra help, I never thought once I would go to extra help and it was all for nerds but finally being open to that was huge for my self. I was learning how to self advocate for my self and see if I wanted something I had to get it my self. One of the biggest parts of my prep experience has been my faith. In all honesty I think one of the main reasons why I stayed was because of freshman retreat. That night I got a true taste of the idea of brother hood, which made me open to going on sophomore retreat. That retreat was probably me of the biggest four days of prep career I shared a room who is now my college buddy nick and we became best friends. I never really had a lot of friends up until that point I wasn't really open to the idea of new friends. On karios I was super open and was telling kids I haven't told anyone else before. My faith only took of from there, from that point in I have led five retreats. I love the concept of retreats and we're trying to inspire others to open like I...

Becoming A Humanitarian Research Paper

...Humanitarian Being compassionate is a main aspect of who I am- my identity. Not only do I care about my friends and family, but also my community and the world. Ironically, I’m shy and introverted, but that certainly doesn’t mean I don’t want to project my concern about the wellbeing of others. I want to make an impact in this world- even if it’s minor. In order to grow as a person and expand this personal aspect, there are goals I want to accomplish: preparing myself for college while still attending high school, majoring in social work, and developing my future career. Deciding to be a social worker wasn’t always a career path I initially wanted to choose. I had trouble narrowing down which career I wanted to pursue, because knowing...

Down Syndrome

...THE REPORT DOWN SYNDROME ( TRISOMY 21 ) Down syndrome is a developmental disorder caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 (which is why the disorder is also called "trisomy 21"). Having an extra copy of this chromosome means that each gene may be producing more protein product than normal. Cells seem to tolerate this better than having not enough protein, or having altered protein due to a mutation in the DNA sequence. However, producing too much protein can also have serious consequences, as seen in Down syndrome. Genes on chromosome 21 that specifically contribute to the various symptoms of Down syndrome are now being identified. Down syndrome is typically caused by what is called nondisjunction. If a pair of number 21 chromosomes fails to separate during the formation of an egg (or sperm), this is referred to as nondisjunction. When that egg unites with a normal sperm to form an embryo, that embryo ends up with three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the normal two. The extra chromosome is then copied in every cell of the baby's body. Interestingly, nondisjunction events seem to occur more frequently in older women. This may explain why the risk of having a baby with Down syndrome is greater among mothers age 35 and older. In rare cases Down syndrome is caused by a Robertsonian translocation, which occurs when the long arm of chromosome 21 breaks off and attaches to another chromosome at the centromere. The carrier of such a translocation will...

Steve Jobs Leadership

...But it was his sheer genius combined with his ability to articulate his vision and bring staff, investors and customers along on the journey - plus the lessons learned in a major career setback - that made it work. The results: indisputable. A 'visionary' is how he is most often described in relation to Apple, the company he founded with high school buddy Steve Wozniak in 1976, was effectively fired from in 1985, and then returned to in 1997 with a renewed sense of purpose. And what a triumphant return it was. According the LA Times, the market value of Apple's shares has grown from about $US5 billion in 2000 to $US351 billion today making it one of the biggest publicly listed companies in the US, up there with the likes of Exxon Mobil. Dr Brent Coker from the University of Melbourne's management and marketing faculty describes Jobs as “one of the greatest business strategists of all times”. “There are a lot of people out there claiming to be futurists,” Dr Coker said. “Most of them are keynote speakers or public speakers - it is rare to have a futurist that demonstrated his ability to almost predict the future in a real live business setting.” But Jobs's rise to the top was hardly textbook perfect. A university dropout, he worked at Atari and travelled through India before seeing a commercial opportunity in the computer (the original Apple I) Wozniak had built to impress some friends. They started the company with an investment of $US1300 of their own money...

...Executive Summary Central Indiana Cage Bird Club (CICBC) is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to educating their members and the general public on the keeping, conservation and stewardship of exotic birds. Several other clubs offer educational opportunities to members and the public at large in addition to bird fairs being offered 1 to 3 times each year. There are many stores and breeders in the area that do offer some education on the care and breeding of exotic birds, but they do not offer the in-depth lectures from subject matter experts as CICBC. Ongoing efforts are in place to continue to improve the quality and integrity of the club’s educational programs. CICBC is able to make contributions to rescues both local and national, and avian medical research funding. This is done through a series of successful bird fairs and managed through the board of directors with membership input and approval. CICBC donated more than $10,000.00 for fiscal year 2011 to worthy organizations. None of the other clubs are as generous as CICBC providing donations to local and national organizations. CICBC’s closest caged bird club competitors are in northern Indiana, Chicago and Cincinnati. The nature of the organization is to educate its members and the general public regarding the general welfare and keeping of exotic birds; therefore there is no real competitiveness regarding an online presence. Bird Fever is the only competition for CICBC’s...

One in particular: Treece McDavitt. Hank had noticed her—you could hardly miss the elaborate tattoos and double eyebrow rings—but he hadn’t really known her name.
