...Family Cultural Research Paper Ashley Ziemann WITC New Richmond Family Cultural Research Paper In Switzerland, there were very wealthy land owners. They were known as the Wipfli family. I did not realize that they were from royalty, I had always just known them as the Wipfli’s. They lived in the Wipfli castle containing 30 rooms, which was wsurrounded by a wall and a moat, which is still owned and occupied by present members of the family. Inside the castle at each of the four corners of the castle, there was a large dungeon. All the walls were covered by murals. There was a circular marble stairway that wound its way up in the middle of the building. On the stairs were the Stations of the Cross. The castle is noted for its one-half mile tunnel which leads from the castle, under the river and comes out to the next village where there was a lake. The purpose of the tunnel was to provide an escape during World War 2. It also has a summer house way up in the mountains where the family lived during long hot summers. My cousin, Kathi, has a painting of the summer house over her dining room fireplace. One of the original family’s sons fell in love with Josephine Van Albert, of the family of Prince Albert (on the tobacco can). They married against her families objections which was possible because the Wipfli’s were wealthier than the Van Albert’s, and they moved from England to Switzerland. Charlotte’s father promptly disowned her, thereby cutting her off all claim our family...

...allow me to be home with my kids away from work and school. I had read and seen tie blankets before so I set out to learn how to make them. There were numerous tutorials on YouTube and come to find out they are actually not hard to make (especially for those of us that are not craft inclined). They can be time consuming however. Undaunted, with a confidence in my ability to make it work and high level of energy, both characteristics of an entrepreneur I set out to purchase fabric, create a few blankets, and listed them on the Facebook San Luis Valley Yard sale forum. Within minutes I had people asking if I could make custom blankets to their choices of fabric and more of the ones I already had. My business had begun. Throughout the season, I started in October I had constant orders for Christmas. Up until the week before Christmas I had numerous orders, so many in fact, I realized I should have employed help as I exhausted myself and worked late into nights to complete orders. I also realized people want deals and in discounting my prices without building a formal budget I was not making enough money. Thankfully I was business minded enough to at least still make a profit but some blankets garnered $25 in profit while others I only made as little as $8. They take about an hour to make (not including the time to search for and purchase fabric) so my hourly rate was widely ranging. In order to make this more consistent and seeing...

...a baby blanket with zoo animals on it to begin trying my hand at this. This blanket was going to be for my baby. I chose this blanket because it was a stamped cross stitch (one that has the imagines already printed on the blanket), so all I had to do was start by following the color chart and making the “x”;s that color. This seemed fun at first but, got very boring as all you had to do was follow the color chart and stitch. After finishing this blanket, which consisted of using a backing material and sewing in different sections of the blanket to keep the backing on so that the baby could not pull out the stitches or hurt them. The material used to hold the backing on was yarn that you took a needle and threaded the needle with the yarn and then you stitched the yarn through both the cross stitch and the backing and tied it off in a knot and did this about 100 times to make sure the backing was tight and then you sewed with a sewing machine around the edges to make sure everything was secure. This project was very nice and ready for my baby, but, after further investigation I found counted cross stitch, which is when you buy a book and different color threads to create your own bibs, blankets, wall hangings, Christmas ornaments, or book marks. You buy the canvas with nothing printed on it and you have to count over so many spaces to start your cross stitch. You begin by following the color chart and directions on how many “x”;s to make of one...

...time to trudge home. To relax, one might run a warm bath, or throw themselves under a blanket with their pet next to them to get warm. They might call their significant other or best friend, who always seems to know how to make things easier. They’re the people who know how to make them warm inside. In the end, people are always looking for warmth in times of trouble. Dictionary.com defines warmth as, “the quality or state of being warm; moderate or gentle heat”. Yet, as seen in the scenario, warmth in today’s society can also mean stress relief or happiness. Warmth evokes feelings of comfort and can even be like a safety blanket for many people through feelings of fond...

...Descriptive Essay- My Bedroom Posted by: Hilary Giblin on: October 26, 2009 * In: Uncategorized * Leave a Comment As I sit bundled up in a warm, brown, comfy hoodie and a big, pink blanket, I say to myself, “Where is my favourite place to be?” Well that’s easy, it’s here in my room. My room is the one place I can be me. I can be perfectly content by myself in this room, or happily laying watching TV with my boyfriend. When sitting on my pink, candy cane, stripped bed with my lime green, fluffy to the touch blanket and hot pink and black pillows, I look around my room and I notice that all my walls are different yet they all tie perfectly together. On the wall at the end of my bed I have a bookcase built into my creamy, dreamy, white walls. On my bookcase I have an array of girly things. My stack of magazines looking like a tall, tall tower full of gossip, tricks, and tips. My assortment of candy coloured nail polishes lined up so neatly like little soldiers ready for battle. Pinks, purples, blues, oranges, the list could go on forever. And the many perfumes, facial masks, moisturizers and DVDs are too many to count. On my top shelf is where I place my photos, one of which is my favourite. The one of myself and my boyfriend. Everytime I glance over at it, it makes me smile. That same smile I had on my face the day I met him. On the same wall beside my bookcase is a large, rectangular shaped window with modern, light pink, bamboo looking blinds. Twirled...

... and who we will be in the future. The biggest influence may come from our family; my mother is mine. She taught me everything from how to eat healthy and dress myself, to how to react to any situation. She taught me little things like how to tie my shoes and to be polite and respectful to adults. I would be lost without my mother, I can trust her, and she’s really important to me. Here’s why: She Listens to Me My mother is my security blanket. No matter how bad of a day she had, she will always be there to listen to me. I talk to her about everything — even things that aren’t always easy to talk about, like my period. Even if she's been screamed at by my siblings all day, she will still be eager to hear me squeal over my drama-filled teenage gossip or vent about how overwhelming life can be. She puts up with my mood swings, my constant chatter and my continuous requests — and still manages to keep our home, and everyone in it, in order. She Calms Me Down Whenever something becomes too much for me, she is there calming me down — giving me a hug and telling me it’s going to be OK. She can even prevent me from hyperventilating by finding my “lost” textbook (it was, of course, in the open, in the first place I checked). No matter what the scenario is, my mother always makes me feel better. And she does this all with a smile — even when I forget to say thank...

Troyes POV I could hear the mans feet hit the pavement as he moved in front of the building I was behind. I knew hiding was pointless but I continued to sit under my tattered blanket with my legs crossed. I was trying to stay away from Marcus as long as possible. I shivered as I felt a breeze coming through the thin material of my small blanket. I'd found the blanket out on the street almost six years ago the day before I turned ten. When I had found it the blanket it had been flying away in the cool breeze that had washed over the city. I had decided chase after it so I could finally have a source of warmth that wasn't my body heat. The small pink blanket had almost escaped my grasp but I grabbed the frayed edge of it before it could....

The also explore the world by asking “WHY” and “HOW” to understand new things. The preschoolers all become involved in the oedipal struggle. If they get frustrated over desires and goals they experience guilt. If they are unsuccessful at achieving a goal they become aggressive and may act is disapproving behavior. Piaget: Preoperational- Egocentric During this stage the child is selfish and believes they are the center of attention. They begin to feel that what they say is most important and all attention should be focused towards them. They often speak when others are speaking and get frustrated when they are not listened to. In the classroom, I observed many of these characteristics of the preschooler. Upon my arrival they all ran to me and all wanted me to themselves, offering their choice of play. They all agreed to give me “Breakfast” where I sat at a play kitchen table in their play kitchen. They fed me an adundance of “play” food. This was a characteristic of imagination and fantasy that Erikson speaks about in his stage. They asked a lot of questions such as “why are you hear, why are you wearing a name tag? Why are you a student, how do you spell you name?” etc.. They also played pirate and ninjas, they asked me to tie pirate bandanas to their head(they were doll...

...familiar with the Infantry and Cavalry division of the military structure and how to make this division of the US government functional is of crucial importance. First, by the very definition, the infantry and cavalry division of military service personnel requires a special mindset. It requires a person who understands that their life as well as others will be in a dangerous state and at any stage of conflict that has to be a mindset that the individual will be comfortable with. Regardless of the company for which one works, the staffing portion of any career is one of the most critical pieces to making the overall job a true success. Without the right people in the right positions, an organization will have a difficult time working properly. Manufacturing The division of the military that I am most comfortable with does not necessarily have a direct manufacturing part to the equation; the equipment that is needed to supply the soldiers is of critical importance. The most important thing that needs to happen from a manufacturing standpoint is that the equipment and supplies that are critical to a soldier’s survivability are readily available and reflects the job that is required. There are many levels of equipment that are needed to complete certain jobs. Most of the manufacturing, as expected, is job specific. Nothing is worse than preparing for a job and realizing the right equipment to make the tour a success is not available. The alignment of manufacturing to the...
