How To Use Research-Based Practices To Support Dyscalculic Students

Research-based instructional practices are the most effective means to teach and implement methods to support dyscalculic students. It is especially important that research-based practices be used with students who have a learning disability such as dyscalculia. The present intervention seeks to intervene dyscalculic students in different classes, and by implementing the three types of accommodations, where each student will be assigned to an unique type of accommodation to assist them and measure which accommodation worked the best for a dyscalculic student to improve their grades. A qualitative research design will be utilized for the present study. The procedure will include the appropriate accommodation’s parameters mentioned on the research-based strategies/accommodations for dyscalculic students.
The participants in this research study are general/special education teachers. This study will focus on students in grades 7th – 12th who have a learning disability in mathematics (Dyscalculia). Teacher will implement a specific accommodation for a dyscalculic student, the focus of the present study.
The present study has been approval of the building principal and approval from the necessary school administrators. A paper copy of the intervention along with a recruitment letter inviting teachers and dyscalculic student’s parents to participate will be send. The letter will explain that participation is voluntary and confidential. While obtaining permission from the parents is important, it is also important to get permission from the students themselves. They will be explained the necessary information they might need to know, by always keeping in mind that outcomes of the study may be affected if participants know the purpose of the
