Seven distinguished men chartered the Kappa chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha on January 13, 1911 at The Ohio State University. The 10th house of Alpha Phi Alpha was developed from the Omusu Club. On October 6, 1910, the General Secretary of Alpha Phi Alpha received a letter. James C. Kingslow sent the letter stating that the Omusu Society wanted to seek membership into the organization. The Omusu Club consisted of students from Ohio State University and Ohio Medical College. The Charterers were Mr. James A Dunn, Mr. L.H. Hatchcock, Mr. Clarence A. Jones, Mr. James C. Kingslow, Mr. W.O. Stokes, Mr. Fred Holsey, and Mr. C.P. Lyman. The Kappa chapter has long impacted the organization starting with the creation of the shield. Mr. James A. Dunn created
