How to Maintain a Healthy Relationship

Everybody wants that perfect relationship that we tend to see in the movies. A main problem is that most of us don’t know how to Create and maintain a relationship that’s healthy and happy. There are many crucial elements to a sound relationship. It’s never one sided, and everyone can benefit from learning a few thing on how to make your relationship a success. Even if you believe that you have a great relationship with your partner, there is always room for improvement. Following these steps will guide you on your journey to improve and maintain your relationships. The first step in maintaining a healthy relationship is communication. This is a big obstacle that is seen in others relationships all the time. I might even have difficulties with this at times. I’m sure that we can all agree that when we are mad at our partner, we sometimes don’t want to talk. We want to ignore the situation and leave it be to work itself out. But many times when we go this route, it leaves us staying mad at each other for long periods of time and the issue seems to continue to be unresolved. What we need to learn to do is throw away our pride, sit the other down, and discuss in soft tones the problem and how we are going to resolve it. Whether we want to do it or not, it is a dire healthy communication technique. It’s important to talk about things that we may not want to. Also, an important part of being able to communicate properly is being honest about yourself and your feelings. Make sure that you are always comfortable talking about how you feel about things with your significant other. We all go through difficult things in life, and if we bottle it all inside, we may take it out on the other. This is something that we want to avoid at all costs because it can lead to un-forgiveness and ultimately ruin a relationship. Let me repeat that communication is dire for you and your partner to experience empathy, and be able to handle the situation properly without getting angry at one another. The next step is respect, which is a very important and very often overlooked. Sometimes when you get used to someone after being with them for an extended period of time, you start to respect them less. You stop showing the consideration, admiration, and patience that you once did, and begin to act in ways that you never would have before. You could become more irritable and act as if you don’t care. This is very destructive to relationships. It’s very important to maintain a healthy respect or learn how to respect the person you are pursuing a relationship with. You never want to make each other feel as if you don’t have respect for them. Try to practice your patience and show them that you consider their feelings even if it seems like the hardest thing to do. In the end, it will be worth it. The last step but certainly not least is love. You can never love each other too much. Love can not be measured or weighed. It is something that everyone desires to have fallen in. You will know if you are in love with a person or not, it is an indescribable passion for another. However the simple knowledge of the fact that you love someone is not enough. Make sure you express you express your love. Every now and then, surprise him/her with a reminder of how much you love that individual. Even if it’s only flowers or a simple card, or a kiss on the nose it’s the thought that counts and that is what we all want. We want reassurance and to know that we still love each other the same every day. You can even try going out on a special date every week and make sure to try to keep the romance alive. Always tell one another that you love them, even if you are not feeling in the most loving mood that day. You never want to make the other feel like you are falling out of love and that your feelings may have changed, unless of course they have. If you follow these steps, you can be sure that you will see great improvement in your relationships. These three steps are very important and everyone needs to keep them in mind. Even if you feel like you are doing all three of these perfectly, remember there is always room for improvement. You can never have too healthy of a relationship, and these steps will ensure you that you can maintain that healthy connection.

Miscommication

...Miscommunication Miscommunication can happen even when we have the very best intentions especially within our closest relationships. To prevent miscommunications, one should first learn how they can take place and then practice good habits such as keeping an open dialog and practice effective communication skills. According to a recent study people, often believe they communicate better with their spouses than with strangers. That leads people to overestimate how well they communicate, a phenomenon called “closeness-communication bias." The study asked married couples to sit with their backs toward each other while they tried to figure out the meanings of different phrases. Although the speakers expected their spouses to understand them better than strangers, accuracy rates were statistically identical. According to study co-author Nicholas Epley, “Our problem in communicating with friends and spouses is that we have an illusion of insight. Getting close to someone appears to create the illusion of understanding more than actual understanding” (Close Relationships, 2011). I think the article highlights a very important part of human relationships, which is, as people get more comfortable with relationships they often take for granted how well they know each other and presume they do not have to try as hard to understand the other person. For example, after a long week of meetings and travel I was sitting on the couch with my husband. We were trying to unwind and relax while...

Trinity And Personhood Analysis

...chapter discussing how the church refers emotionally distressed persons to therapists without giving them the opportunity to heal within the community. "the heart of God is home, where the humble and wise learn to shepherd those on the path behind them, where trusting strugglers lock arms with others as together they journey on." (Kindle Locations 269-270). Humans are created for relationship, since they are “created in the image of the triune God.” Trinity and Personhood The concept of the Trinity poses God as three distinct persons working in partnership as one being. Because we are made in the image of God, we are also born relational by nature. We still maintain our own distinct uniqueness, we are also bond to others in relationship. We learn from those around use growing up how to interact in a relationship. We watch our parents, teachers, and other adult role models. In the article that I have chosen it states that “Close emotional ties are relatively stable until late in life, whereas peripheral (i.e., not close) social relationships are preferably discontinued.” To me this means that one should began to develop and learn to maintain a healthy relationship early on so that as they begin to age and develop socially that he or she can continue to prosper in his or her healthy relationship. Technology Leading to Social Isolation

...street, listening to your iPod, texting on your cellphone or reading books on your tablet. Do you actually look up long enough to notice other people around you? In most situations no, you are oblivious to what other people are doing around you because you are so involved in your social media connections. When you are at home, work or school how often do you get involved with your social media? Take a minute to really think about how much time you spend on your phone, laptop, tablet, iPod, or any other piece of technology. How much time do you spend alone because of it? Although technological innovations have helped us grow as a society and get more information, culture, and perspective at a worldwide span, it may seem to have doomed us into creating such isolated lives. Constant contact with social media has led to an unlimited number of cases that are tied to social isolation. Because of this issue, people are more invested in everything other than what they are physically doing; the increase of innovations through technology has to lead to a decrease of face-to-face interaction amongst society, which has created less meaningful relationships and a lack of social interaction that we need to function as a society, creating unnecessary health risks for people who fall under this category. Problem Analysis Technology has made too many things so easily available from groceries to shopping to simple communication to friends and family in such a way that people have surpassed being...

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is the ability to take care of oneself, make good conscious decisions, and be able to accept the responsibility for negative actions. Even though situations may arise that are hard to accept personal blame for, accepting personal responsibility will lead to emotional and physical well-being, healthy relationships, and a successful career. Failure to comply with these rules will result in low self-esteem issues, depression, unhealthy habits, mood swings and ultimately cause pain for everyone in your life. By leading a healthy lifestyle, you are able to be emotionally stable, communicate effectively in all relationships, and build a good foundation for the future. Accepting personal responsibility for your own actions is one of the major keys to success. Acknowledging that you control your own destiny and are responsible for yourself is the first course of action a person should take. For example, when a person is considered an alcoholic the first step is accepting the problem. Once a person accepts the problem he/she needs to realize the choices made were theirs. People tend to blame others directly in their inner circle of family and friends for their downfalls. Doing this can cause catastrophic results. For example, if a man was abandoned by his father shortly after birth, he cannot say during his adult years, that he cannot be a good husband or effectively provide for his family is due to what happened when he was a child...
