How to Save a Life

How to Save a Life Ever since I can remember comma saving a life was always my dream. I wasn't the type of kid who wanted to be the president, a lawyer, or a teacher. I played doctor with my baby dolls, not dress-up. Barbie and Ken would be rushed to the doctors’ office because Barbie had too much lipstick on and Ken's shirt was too tight! Unlike Barbie and Ken, I was hardly ever sick as a child, but when I was it was always bad comma and that usually meant that I had to go to the doctor's office. That office was never my type of atmosphere. I hated the doctor with a passion! Eventually I began to realize that the doctors and nurses were only doing what's what was best for you me and that's something I liked. I loved that they always cared about me and my wellbeing, and that was an amazing feeling to me.
When high school came around, I had to decide on a career plan. I was so torn and confused because I didn't want to make the wrong decision. The career plan that I was going to pick was going to decide my classes to help me in the future. That's when I came to a decision that nursing was most certainly my way to go. The reason that I chose nursing is not for the money or the benefits you get from it. It is absolutely but for the burning passion that is in my soul to save a life. I care so much about the health and wellbeing of others, and I want to assist with their medical needs the best way that I can. Also, human anatomy really interests me. I absolutely love to learn about how the human body functions, where the bones are located, different diseases, and cancers. The first doctor's office is to mellow, quiet, and not exciting to me. Everyone who goes to a doctor nine times out of ten don't. It's an ear infection or a runny nose. The thing that I enjoy can't be done in a family health clinic it must be done in the emergency room. Very good explanation of the lack of appeal a doctor's office environment has for you.
What interest me the most when it comes to the medical field is traumatic situations. When I see vehicular accidents happen, my eyes are always glued to the scene because I am a very curious person and always want to see what was going on. It's never because I just want to be nosey; it just really catches my attention comma and when I see the people who do not make it, it breaks my heart. I always wonder if I could have done something to save their life. What feeling would I get when someone’s life is saved thanks to me? This is the question that made me choose my profession and being in the emergency room is where I want to be!
Emergency room Nursing is best suited for me because I can tolerate the sight of and possibly organs coming out a patient's body. I'm not the type of person who is afraid of the unknown or to try new things. My intensity level goes through the roof when something goes wrong in any way, shape, or form. Once my blood starts pumping comma I'm all game for whatever battles life has for me. I cannot explain the amount of excitement that will bring when the doctor yells to get them the tongs or scapula. The best part is when they will shout to get them the defibrillator and begins. My body will probably feel some of the shock just watching all the stress that the patient’s body has. To be able to watch the body have muscle spasms seems very interesting to me. I think that what I really get my attention caught onto is Already I can imagine the adrenaline rush that I will get when the ambulance pulls up or the helicopter lands comma and I will be able to hear the sound of the sirens as the emergency room doors swing open and the patient comes in on the stretcher. My heart pounds fast just thinking about it. One thing I have heard about becoming a nurse is that you can never become attached to your patients because once their time comes to leave, whether it is to heaven or home, you have to let go and cannot get to emotional. Most people cannot put up with seeing these types of things happen comma but its a factor of life, and someone has to do it. I will always try my hardest to never hear the sound of the EKG go off, but sometimes there is nothing you can do. Nursing is going to be hard in the beginning and will most defiantly take some getting used to, but once I can put my emotions aside comma and I should be quite alright. For a nurse losing a patient is never easy because once you stay with them for a while you sort of get attached, and that may be one thing I'll have to overcome. The thing that I'm most concerned about is when a new patient comes in and it is a family member or a close friend and to know that there life is not only on the line but in my hands really scares me. That is a sight that I would never want to see. I would hate to see a loved one in such a life threatening situation but that would cause me to strive for me to work harder to save their life.
Even though I am yet to be a nurse, I think this is going to be the best occupation for me. I don't know all of the challenges that I will have to face comma but I am more than ready to get my hands on every obstacle that comes my way. I'm not afraid to take a stand and help my fellow people in every possible way that I can. Sometimes not knowing is what gives you the real challenge.

Novel Comparison

...Discuss the similarities and differences in how Pat Barker and Jim and Rachel Britts portray/depict the personal journey of the main characters, Danny Miller and Jake and how they overcome struggles in their texts Border Crossing and To Save a Life? In the novels Border Crossing and To Save a life, a common theme between the two was the main characters (Danny Miller- Border crossing and Jake Taylor-To Save a Life) having an urge to recover from the struggles of their past. However both did so in completely different ways as they were recovering from different circumstances. In this essay I will be discussing the similarities and differences in their past struggles, the similarities and differences in how they went about solving their issues in the past and the main difference that separated Danny and Jake. In the two novels, both Jake Taylor and Danny Miller had an underlying issue in their past, and both involved a death. For Jake, he dealt with the suicide of his childhood best friend Roger. This was especially significant as you learn the story of their friendship. It all started back when they were young boys and best friends. Roger pushed Jake out of the way of a car, saving him but crippling himself forever. Years later Jake joined a new popular group of friends, Amy became his girlfriend, and he became star of the basketball team. Jake grew further away from Roger, who became more of a loner due to his condition which he was bullied for. Three years later as a high...

Stem Cell

...Who Can Stem Cell Research Save? Human stem cell research is a widely controversial topic in the United States. Most controversy concerns are religious, moral, and legal contestations regarding human embryos. Research on human embryos have been approved in other countries such as Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Greece, Britain, Denmark, and the Netherlands, it remains a controversy issue in the United States. In the United States the States are split on whether it’s enforcing a complete ban or allowed funding in some States for stem cell research. President Clinton passed Dickey Amendment which cut off all Department of Health and Human Services and all federal funding for stem cell research on human embryos. Private funding was still aloud for the research. In 2001 President George Bush approved limited funding because of the great outcomes it could one day give us with cures for diseases and disorders. On the first issue, are these embryos human life? Well, one researcher told me he believes this five-day-old cluster of cells is not an embryo, not yet an individual but a pre-embryo. He argued that it has the potential for life, but it is not a life because it cannot develop on its own. An ethicist dismissed that as a callous attempt at rationalization. "Make no mistake," he told me, "that cluster of cells is the same way you and I, and all the rest of us, started our lives. One goes with a heavy heart if we use these," he said, "because we are dealing with the seeds of...

Philosophy Paper

...Philosophy 220 The Life You Can Save “Acting Now to End World Poverty” I will first explain Peter Singer’s argument on how he wants us to donate to the developing countries where 1.4 billion people live in extreme poverty around the world. Peter Singer argues that people who live in developed nations like the United States should act now to end world poverty. Peter Singer’s argument is that there are 1.4 billion people in the world who live in extreme poverty and barely making it to meet their most basic human needs such as food, house, and water. Based on his research the poorest people live on $1.25 a day. He argues that our obligation to the poorest people in the world is not only to donate an amount of $200 but also to donate as much as we can; but not to the point of sacrifice our own child’s life to save a child in the developing countries. Children die in the poorest countries because of the lack of sanitation and no safe drinking water from diseases such as measles, malaria, and diarrhea. In developed nations these diseases are almost never fatal. Then, why children die from diseases that are curable? The answer is that their parents can’t afford to health care. Children are malnourished and are the most vulnerable from these diseases. Peter says we spent money on things we take for granted and we don’t even noticed if they were there or not. He adds that the life you can save of a child in a developing country by donating $200 is not just enough as you might think...

Organ Donation

...yourself, but it is also an important decision for the life that you may have the power to save. Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to consider becoming organ donors after death Introduction: Ladies and gentlemen, today I am here to share with you my views on organ donation, in the hope that you will take them on board and give someone the ultimate gift after you have left this earth the gift of life. Almost everyone would want to be able to say “I have saved a life.” But by becoming an organ donor, you can be able to say “I will save a life.” Organ donation is a selfless way to give back to others, and to be able to make a huge difference by giving another person a second chance at life. Unfortunately, the number of patients waiting for organs far exceeds the number of people who have registered to become organ donors. Patients are forced to wait months, even years for a match, and far too many die before they are provided with a suitable organ. There are many stigmas related to organ donation, but most of them are relatively false, and in order to be well informed, you must know what organ donation is, how it works as well as how you can become an organ donor and what organs or tissues you can donate. Becoming an organ donor after death is not only an important decision for yourself, but it is also an important decision for the life that you may have the power to save. Main Point 1- What organ donation is and how it works Organ donation takes healthy organs...
