The goal of this meeting is to present Human Resource Initiatives around: Performance Evaluations, Team Evaluation and Implementing Succession Planning. 1 A Performance Evaluation is the means by employee performance is documented and assessed. The evaluation is based on pre-determined criteria. For example a manager would sit down with an employee and discuss clear goals for the current position they hold. Pre-determined criteria would give specific, measurable goals. Like the receptionist will return all messages with 48 hours of receiving them. The manager would have a system in place to ensure they could determine if all messages were returned within the 48 hours. Another area could be company citizenship. Company citizenship is what has the employee done inside the company that aligns with a companies corporate citizenship goals. This could be volunteering to conduct a Lunch & Learn meeting, or helping to plan an employee appreciation event. Accomplishments could be evaluated by listing all of the things the employee accomplished during the previous year. An accomplishment is usually something that goes above and beyond current job responsibilities. And lastly, Future Improvement is what an employee is doing to better themselves. Creating a diverse workforce provides tremendous opportunities for organizations and individuals to tap into the ideas, creativity and potential contributions inherent in a diverse work force. The composition of America’s workforce is changing. According to the census Bureau, nonwhite will represent more than one-third of the U. S. population by the year 2010 and close to half of the U. S. population by the ear 2050. By the year 2005, the ethnic minority share of the workforce will reach 28 percent. It is also projected that the Hispanic-American population will be the largest minority group in the U. S. by the year 2010. In order for companies to fully and aggressively compete in the marketplace, they will need to consider these statistics and work towards attracting, recruiting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce. This will be critical if they are to survive. They will also need to recognize that the market they cater to is becoming more diverse. Our text tells us “The Progressive use of the amendment created lasting effects on our political system and is often considered the greatest success of the entire movement” (Bowles, 2011). The 16th amendment allowed the federal government to begin collecting income tax from all workers. The 17th amendment gave citizens the power to elect U.S. senators and was a result of the direct primary reform in Oregon. This was important because it allowed voters to choose candidates for office instead of political party leaders (The Progressive Era, 2002). A smoking ban is easily understood and the issue was well-defined in voters’ minds long before the campaign began. The dangers of second-hand smoke have been understood for decades. SmokeFreeOhio raised a significant amount of money (over $1.8 million). Although as of October 18 SmokeFreeOhio had not raised enough money to cover Ohio’s media markets on their own, they were greatly assisted by free media coverage prompted by the presence of Issue 4 (Smoke Less Ohio) on the ballot. The tobacco industry’s attempt to trump SmokeFreeOhio was well publicized in newspapers and on television, and certainly contributed to public awareness of the differences between Issues 4 and 5. This helps to explain the success of the SmokeFreeOhio campaign despite the competing ballot campaign, Smoke Less Ohio (Issue 4) and this successful citizen initiative provides a template for future ballot campaigns. This organization is designed to meet the needs of the community through monetary disbursements. This organization runs fundraising campaigns January through June. The Director of Resource Development recruits volunteers and uses them as ambassadors in the community. These ambassadors give presentation at local businesses to inform them of the mission of the United Way in hopes of generating funds through the use of donations pledged by the employee. The employee would fill out a pledge card stating they will give a stated amount of dollars. This can be done as a onetime donation, quarterly or every paycheck. Some businesses will give a donation or offer to “match” the funds generated. In return the businesses are given free publicity by posing with a check for the local paper.
