Human resources is a “resource for humans” in the workplace. The HR department manages employees within the organization; there are many responsibilities in this department. HR may also act like a “middleman” between the employees and management. Human Resources handle many issues pertaining to the employees who work for the company. A manager will oversee department functions and manages employees within the department. They must be a knowledgeable human resources point of contact in this department as well. This paper will explain the human resources management’s role in the health care industry. The roles that will cover are hiring and staffing, compensation and benefits, training and development, and employee relations.

This is the first point of contact a person has with the company will be through the HR department; they also may attend job fairs and recruit. They will perform interviews with applicants and screen resumes, check references, and perform background checks. Organizations face several strategic HR choices in recruiting, selecting, and socializing employees. Emphasizing a good fit between the applicant and the firm versus hiring the most knowledgeable is part of the hiring and staffing process (Gomez-Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2010). They perform the orientation of the new hires while informing them of the policies and procedures.

Changing Role of Hr Management

...Changing Role of HR Management MGT/431 May 9, 2011 Human Resources Roles The ancient Egyptians were the first true Human Resources practitioners, harnessing the potential of their people to achieve a common goal (The value of HR, 2009). The pyramids were built by skilled laborers recruited for their skills and received regular salaries. Although some of the functions of human resources remain the same, much has changed. Many businesses have expanded their operations overseas and around the world. This change in globalization caused necessary changes in technology, diversity, e-business, ethics, and the role of Human Resources management. Globalization In order to stay competitive, a number of companies moved the manufacturing portion of their businesses to countries for their lower labor costs, higher levels of workers education, and technological advantages (Gale Group, Farmington Hills, Michigan, 2009). Many functions have shifted to India, the Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries. Other businesses expanded their operations to foreign markets. According to The Economic Policy Institute, a Washington think tank, American companies have created 1.4 million jobs overseas this year (Gogoi, 2010). Because of an increased global workforce, organizations in the United States must expand call center hours and offer language training programs to employees to communicate effectively with their counterpart overseas as well as customers. The Human Resources Management...

...HCS/341 2014 Abstract Identify human resource management’s role in the health care industry. Describe the functional roles of the human resource department based on your textbook and Electronic Reserve Readings. The human resources department is an important asset to any successful business. It provides services such as managing change and facilitating training and development, recruitment, selection and employee relations, pensions, benefits and communicating with employees. Although these are important factors in running a successful business the primary function of the human resources department is maintaining adequate and competent staffing levels at affordable costs. A flourishing business will depend on the human resources department to develop a successful system to facilitate each one of these vital services. According to Leadership profiles of managers in post-communist countries, Gasparishvili states, “HR departments are expected to design HR systems of their organizations in their unique contexts, after taking into view the specific ground realities surrounding them. In doing so, they need to conceptualize the possible issues and problems well, and learn to adopt an integrated approach in dealing with them through appropriate HR systems so that they all are directed towards the same goal.” (2001) Todays health care industry is a very dynamic field, therefore having a human resources department that can adapt to its unique demands requires goals...

Hr Devolution

...Executive Summary This report traces the evolution of the HR function from its traditional role of personnel management into what is known today as Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) and the role that devolution has played in this evolutionary cycle. From the research, it was observed that the devolution of HR responsibilities to line managers has enabled the HR function to take on a more strategic role as a business partner of the organization. It is also observed that devolution has benefited both line managers and employees alike by reducing bureaucratic red-tape and providing a faster approach to decision making and problem solving. The limitation of this report is that the negative aspects of devolution as noted by many researchers are not covered due to limitations in the length and scope of the assignment. Lawler III & Susan Albers Mohrman A number of articles, books and studies have argued that HR needs to become a strategic partner (Ulrich, 1997; Brockbank, 1999; Lawler & Mohrman, 2000a). But is HR becoming a strategic partner? What does becoming a strategic partner entail? And is the HR function more effective when it is a strategic partner? The answers to these questions are critical to the future development and direction of the human resource function in organizations. A number of forces have converged to support the idea of HR being more of a strategic partner. Corporations are undergoing dramatic changes with significant implications for how human resources are managed. Perhaps the most important of these changes is the rapid deployment of information technology and the increasing amount of knowledge work that organizations do. Also important are the rapidly changing...

The Role of Corporate HR Funcitons in MNCs: The Interplay Between Corporate, Regional/National and Plant Level Abstract The HR literature has been abundant in providing typologies of the roles of HR professionals in their organisation. These typologies are largely related to the changing nature of HRM over time, and the context in which empirical work was carried out. In this paper we focus on the context of the increasing internationalisation of firms and how this has an effect upon modern-day typologies of HR roles. We explore these roles by focusing on the way in which HRM practices come about. Especially in a MNC setting of increasing internationalisation of firms the issues of coordination, shared...

In circumstances where HR is included in the strategy of an organizatio n, its alignment does not go beyond a forecasting function. The main reason that HR is not aligned with the strategy of an organization is that it does not hold a seat at the strategic planning table. Hr and Its Changing Role

...Change agenda THE CHANGING HR FUNCTION THE KEY QUESTIONS Introduction The HR function and its evolution have been identified as key areas within the CIPD’s research programme. Despite a wealth of information that exists on the HR function, its role and its structure, and a vast amount of literature on the link between people management practices and organisational performance, there is little definitive evidence, either from the CIPD or from academic researchers, which gives a clear indication of the impact of HR structure and staffing on organisational outcome or performance. In particular, as many organisations embrace and implement the so-called Ulrich model, questions on the extent to which it meets their particular needs and what difference it has made to HR performance, stakeholder satisfaction and HR staff aspirations, have not been answered. This Change Agenda is based on the scoping stage of a larger piece of work, and it examines what we know about the impact of new structures and roles on the HR function, on the implications for skills and development of HR staff, and on the relationships with line managers. We will also look at how HR has measured its performance against this background. The result of this exercise will be to throw up a number of unanswered questions that will form the basis for the next phases of research. Phase one For this segment of the project we have undertaken two main pieces of work: we have explored the literature around the...

Activity Two I have been asked to write a report to support the retention of the HR function within this organisation. All businesses have a range of legislation that they need to adhere to and as a large organisation with a very diverse range of roles, it is especially important for us to have a dedicated function to ensure that we are complying with legislation. One of the main functions of HR within an organisation is to provide the management structure with the capability to manage, in that they provide advice and support to managers. Supporting the management structure to manage ultimately allows all the employees to be motivated in their role and therefore able to achieve the long term goals of the organisation. Activities which support the organisation’s strategy The HR functions activities include include recruitment, the recognition and reward of employees, compliance with legislation, record keeping, learning and development and discipline amongst others. In this organisation the most important functions of the HR team are, compliance with all aspects of legislation such as health and safety through learning and development, as well as recruitment for all the diverse roles we have in this organisation and...
