Communicating the Change The Target Corporation has undergone many changes due to the 2013 security breach where hackers stole personal information from credit and debit cards of at least 70 million customers. Target sales and reputation has dropped from this instance, thus eliciting changes in their security systems, changes in management, and a few policy changes in handling customer information. With the public eye on the corporation’s handling of the situation, Target has been communicating these changes through various means. The changes they needed to communicate were informing customers of the security breach, addressing the bad press coverage to shareholders, downsizing of employees, and indicating policy changes to external vendors.
Target Corporation issued a statement to customers informing them of the security breach. Then CEO Gregg Steinhafel sent a letter to customers apologizing for the inconvenience, assuring that changes in security measures are a top priority to the company. It also talked about the immediate investigation into the breach and recommendations for customers to take steps in protecting their own information (Chmura, 2013). Throughout the coming months, Target Corporation provided updates into the change processes by issuing statements to the public through media outlets. The company has since created a question and answer page on their website about the data breach for everyone to have access to, and provides answers to the main questions of how and why this happened (Target Corp., 2014). The company did not shy away from questions from the public, which is smart in regaining consumer trust back after the incident. Being open and honest about the breach helped the company maintain its customers for the future. Using letters to inform the impacted customers was a good way to personalize the

...General Motors and Ford: Communicating the Change Managing Organizational Changes (HRM-587) DeVry University, Keller Graduate School of Management April 13, 2014 “When a company decides to make a major organizational change whether it's a new emphasis on customer service, quality management, restructuring or downsizing managers must get the message through to front-line employees, and enlist their support...or the changes will create more turmoil than progress” (Larkin, Tj and Sandar, 1994). It is important to note that the primary use of any communication in change is to create clarity. This is imperative in ensuring that everyone at least understands all the objectives that are being set forth to achieve. A well planned communication will help in the attitude of the people and thereby creating more for embracing with a lesser impact of resistance. It has been repeatedly proven that for any communication that is poorly planned and executed then there will be a great cause for high resistance from the people. Miller, 2011 describes the four ways of being effective when communicating change as: “Use face-to-face, two-way communication wherever possible, enable sponsors to demonstrate a real commitment to communication and be involved in the creation of the communication strategy, tailor messages to the receiver’s perspective then seek feedback and where possible, take it on board.” It is by no doubt that an email communication is easier to stage in getting around...

It is the way we share information, ideas, goals, directions, expectations, feelings, and emotions in the context of organized action. The change strategy for communicating the necessary changes made by Apple during the integration of iPod and iTunes business unit and the subsequent vision that kept the company flexible to remain competitive, is inherent in its ability to handle communication at all levels. The CEO’s vision provides clear direction for all the business units working together to meet shareholder expectations and at the same time provide value to their customers and employees. The organization works for the mission. Apple understands the importance of being continuously innovative with a vast and loyal army of Apple fanatics behind it to regularly come up with new products like iPad. (A) The communication plan grid is a separate document (B) ONE of the communication pieces: Debut a brand new product with a summary of the company's milestones “Apple followed its usual script for the new iPhone's coming-out party. ...Communicating the Change Aaron A. Czupryn aaczupryn@yahoo.com HRM-587 Managing Organizational Change Professor John Dibenedetto 08/17/2013 Explanation of Spreadsheet Communication Plan. As the goal of this assignment I have set out to develop a realistic communications plan for Starbucks concerning its organizational changes. The goal of the plan is to reach all stakeholders that will be affected by the upcoming changes and make sure that a common language is being used throughout the plan. The stakeholders’ that I have identified through my research includes the following: board of directors, senior management team, district managers, store managers, shift supervisors, baristas (employee), shareholders, vendors, and contractors. The timeline of communication would begin with the initial communication being sent out by the CEO to the board of directors, senior management, and district managers. The district managers would then forward the communication to the store managers and shift supervisors, who would then pass on the information to the baristas (employee). Two separate communications would be sent in conjunction with the first. The first of these communications would originate from the information sent to the board of directors by way of the CEO. The board of directors would forward the communication in its entirety or omit any non-essential information to the shareholders. The communication would inform them of all upcoming organizational changes so...

Nokia 2. Samsung WHY DO I FIND THIS TOPIC INTERESTING? The project emphasize in learning the organizational changes and analysing the impact they create in the development of their companies. Nokia and Samsung mobiles are well known world-wide. But what I find interesting is what made these companies bigger. Nokia, as we all know was a leading mobile company, has lost its position in the market. Samsung, which was well known as an electronics and home appliance company, catches up with Nokia in the mobile market. So the study of the change these organizations implemented in their company is an interesting thing to learn. And also the study of comparison of what change made Nokia...

...Course Project Walt Disney and Netflix Michael Wilson Keller Graduate School of Management Managing Organizational Change HRM 587 Professor Swift Course Project Walt Disney and Netflix Course Project Proposal For my course project I choose Walt Disney and the Netflix companies. I choose these two companies because I believe they are both going through significant changes in the way they are offering forms of the entertainment they provide. How they respond to the external forces that are requiring them to change has been different based on their resources and the demand their customers have. One company has many years of providing entertainment to many generations who value their judgment delivering quality products through many different mediums. The other company is new to the entertainment providing industry and has changed how businesses in that industry think about what their customers need based on the changes in the new technology developed in the past few years. For Walt Disney the changes will be how to maintain a quality relationship with the generations of customers who have purchased their movies in different formats that are no longer adaptable in the newest technology. Can they convince the owners of the video tapes that ownership of their products in other formats is still the answer? For Netflix the changes include a system that goes against the need to own the products, but trust that they will provide the entertainment they want when and where...

Review of Literature

...Review of Literature Michelle Banker Saint Leo University Many corporations have traditionally focused on being “customer first” and maintaining customer satisfaction in order to help drive profit. Recently, companies have shifted their focus on employee satisfaction. According to Argenti (2013), managers and senior level executives recognize that employees have more to do with the success of a business more then any other constituency. Prior to the 21st Century, internal communication primarily consisted of memos, publications, and internal broadcasts (Argenti, 2013). Today, internal communication is much more encompassing; including providing employees with company values and belief statements, more accessible management teams, and a more diverse and engaging Human Resources department (Argenti, 2013). In an effort to truly discover if internal communication is a driving force behind increased profits, and employee retention & effectiveness, this Review of Literature will be reviewing several articles that investigate effective internal communication and how the engage employees. This review includes articles that were selected and evaluated extensively. Each article was required to be peer-reviewed, written within the last 20 years, and complimentary to the topic at hand. These articles also included research to support claims, inspect organizations who previously struggled with internal communications, and if those companies’ efforts to improve helped with employee...

Organizational Citizenship Behaviors

...Executive Summary The world is more concerned about organizations with high rate in their performance, effectiveness, employee satisfaction, organizational commitment, career development and etc. Thus, organizations want employees to go behind their day-to-day job duties and exceed expectations. Literatures suggest that these extra-voluntary behaviors, called organizational citizenship behaviors, are positively related to the indicators of organizational effectiveness. Katz and Kahn (1978) mentioned that organizational citizenship behaviors can be extremely valuable to organizations and can contribute to enhance better performance as well as competitive advantage (Jahangir & Akbar 2004). The purpose of this paper is to provide a review on Organizational Citizenship Behaviors and its impacts on organizational effectiveness. The first section will define organizational citizenship behaviors and reviews some standpoints from different authors. The second section will explain the main types of behaviors. However, many behavioral patterns are likely to fall into this category, but we focus on the most important ones. Furthermore, the antecedents of the OCBs as well as its consequences will be discussed. Finally the paper will propose HR practices that can help to encourage employees to exhibit favorable behaviors and enhance effective OCBs. An Introduction to Organizational Citizenship Behavior Katz, as far back as 1964, was the one who emphasized on the need for a behavioral...

...YAHOO & APPLE Course Project HRM 587 Managing Organizational Change Professor Change management: Yahoo & Apple What was true more than two thousand years ago is just as true today. We live in a world where "business as usual" is change. New initiatives, project-based working, technology improvements, staying ahead of the competition, emerging stronger from the recession - together these drive changes to the way we work. (from A Sense of Urgency, by John P Kotter Published By Harvard Business Press, 2008) Today more than ever before, we can feel that we live in an era of risk and instability. Globalization, new technologies, and greater transparency have combined to upend the business environment and give many CEOs a deep sense of unease. The management structure of an organization as well as personal leadership style CEO’s and other senior leaders’ affects how individuals within a company make decisions and how quickly the company reacts to various challenges and opportunities. From basic definition of change we learned that the origin of the necessity of change lies in the dissatisfaction with the current state or the perception of a problem. The objectives, content, and process of change should be specified as part of the change management plan. Change management processes can benefit from creative marketing to enable communication between change audiences, and a deep social understanding about...
