The Five P’s
Presenting
Mary was presented to the unit feeling very low and depressed voicing that her mood has been “very unwell”. She has felt depressed most of the day, especially at night and most days of the week. She has been sleeping 4-5 hours per night. She reported that three months prior to her admission, she was determined to end her life after being contacted by her ex husband stating she should kill herself because she is bad for the children. Mary has found herself researching suicide websites over the last two years and over the last two months; she has been collecting Temazepam tablets, which she said was for the purpose to overdose herself.
Predisposing
Mary has limited primary support here in New Zealand as most of her…show more content… She is currently unemployed. She has been borrowing money from her friends due to not wanting to apply for benefit from the government due to shame. Mary is now facing budgeting issues and is in a lot of debt.
Precipitating
Mary reports that the abuse from her ex husband is considered to be the major trigger for her present situation. Other contributing factors could have been the recent hospitalisation of her mother in Korea and stress regarding custody over her two children. Financial stressors could also contribute to her present situation as she is in a lot of debt.
Perpetuating
Mary is unable to identify a clear goal and this could debilitate her recovery process. Non-adherence to safe plan formation and wanting to go home may further perpetuate her ability to recover.
Protective
Mary reports that her current support networks are her church friends and that her religious beliefs have supported her so much with her current situation. She was able to report early warning signs and observed lack of energy or fatigue as one. Mary has a key social worker that visits her in a regular basis that supports her in the community.
