Running head: HEALTH STATUS AND HEALTH CARE

Health Status and Health Care Services in Canada with Comparison to the United States
Bonny Tiley
DeVry University, HSM 310
In the following literature, the Canadian health care system will be compared in detail to the United States health care system. There are two very different health care systems between Canada and the United states. They each have their own difficulties within their own systems and are currently trying to find ways to improve these particular issues. The Universal Health Care system is used in Canada; this provides coverage to all the citizens of Canada (Canadian Health Care, 2007). It is executed on either a territorial or provincial basis, staying within the guidelines that have been made by the federal government (Canadian Health Care, 2007). The United States on the other hand has a hugely private system, with multiple payers, leaving the US citizens no choice other than to pay out of one’s own pocket in order to obtain health insurance, also Americans are not fully insured or even partially insured like the citizens of Canada are (Canadian Health Care, 2007). Each country spends a large amount of funding for their health care systems. Canada had spent over eleven percent of its overall GDP on health care, the United States on the other hand had spent 17.4 percent of its overall GDP this year (United North America, 2013). On the other hand, Canada has been shown to spend much less of the GDP on their health care, but it still has been shown to be superior to the U.S. on two of the more common health care measures, such as the infant mortality rate and the life expectancy rate (United North America, 2013). Each country is very different from each other, but they also both have similar problems with the management of their health care systems. Canada guarantees that all their citizens

Healthcare Systems of China

...The Healthcare Systems of China (In Comparison to the United States) Tiara C. Robinson HSM 310- Professor Jennifer Pryor April 4 2011 China, whose population estimate for 2010 was 1,330,141,295, has a growth rate of 0.5%, a birth rate: 12.1/1000, an infant mortality rate of 16.5/1000, with an average life expectancy of 74.5 years. Prior to my research, I had some knowledge of the problem of overpopulation in China. Even the elders of China were exceeding the normal range. One source states, “As a result [of the overpopulation] China’s 60+ populations will increase dramatically – from 200 million in 2015 to over 300 million by 2030.” (<http://www.china-mike.com/chinese-culture/society/china-population-growth-crisis/>) To better understand the population of China, in comparison to the whole world, (http://www.prb.org...) states that China now has a life expectancy at birth “increasing by two-thirds from 40.8 to 71.5 between 1955 and 2005.” Adding on, “The country already has about 102 million elderly (those ages 65 and over), or over one-fifth of the world's elderly population and the percentage of elderly in China is projected to triple from 8 percent to 24 percent between 2006 and 2050, to a total number of 322 million. Before vigorous research which will include availability and access to healthcare, technological influences, political and cultural economic issues and providers available, I sought it necessary to complete background information on the country…just...

...TAMPERE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENES Environmental Engineering Final thesis Timo Flaspöhler Design of the runner of a Kaplan turbine for small hydroelectric power plants Supervisor Commissioned by Tampere 2007 Jaakko Mattila Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Mechanical engineering department TAMPERE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENES Environmental Engineering Timo Flaspöhler Final thesis Supervisor November 2007 Keywords Design of the runner of a Kaplan turbine for small hydroelectric power plants 78 pages, 42 pages Appendix Jaakko Mattila Electricity tariff, small hydroelectric power plant, Kaplan turbine, runner, adaptation mechanism, stress analysis, technical drawings ABSTRACT The final thesis deals with the design of the runner of a Kaplan turbine. It might be that due to the increasing of the electricity tariff in the last years small hydroelectric power plants become cost effective. Since the runner of a small hydroelectric power plant is quite small, it has to be reexamined if the hub of the runner provides enough room for a proper adaptation mechanism. For this purpose the main characteristics of the runner are determined. Then, important data such as the suction head, the occurring forces or the critical speed are established. After those data are known, a detailed stress analysis of the developed adaptation mechanism follows. The stress analysis shows that the mechanism to adjust the blades is able to withstand the occurring forces. Finally...

Quiet: Power of Introverts

...MORE ADVANCE NOISE FOR QUIET “An intriguing and potentially lifealtering examination of the human psyche that is sure to benefit both introverts and extroverts alike.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Gentle is powerful … Solitude is socially productive … These important counterintuitive ideas are among the many reasons to take Quiet to a quiet corner and absorb its brilliant, thought-provoking message.” —ROSABETH MOSS KANTER, professor at Harvard Business School, author of Confidence and SuperCorp “An informative, well-researched book on the power of quietness and the 3/929 virtues of having a rich inner life. It dispels the myth that you have to be extroverted to be happy and successful.” —JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D., author of Emotional Freedom “In this engaging and beautifully written book, Susan Cain makes a powerful case for the wisdom of introspection. She also warns us ably about the downside to our culture’s noisiness, including all that it risks drowning out. Above the din, Susan’s own voice remains a compelling presence—thoughtful, generous, calm, and eloquent. Quiet deserves a very large readership.” —CHRISTOPHER LANE, author of Shyness: How Normal Behavior Became a Sickness 4/929 “Susan Cain’s quest to understand introversion, a beautifully wrought journey from the lab bench to the motivational speaker’s hall, offers convincing evidence for valuing substance over style, steak over sizzle, and qualities that are, in America, often derided. This book is brilliant...
