Throughout the inception of civilization, restaurants have been an around in one or another shape or form. The utility of a restaurant or inn can provide to hungry travelers from all centuries of the past with invaluable resources of survival. Often times, whether or not a restaurant or inn was in proximity of travelers would determine whether or not these people met life or death. Nowadays, restaurants provide a convenient way to access a meal without having to go through the trouble of buying the raw food ingredients and cooking it yourself. While there are many kinds of restaurants, fast food restaurants tend to be pop up most often in everyday conversations and the media due to the fact that they are big corporations with vast locations throughout the world and are publicly traded in the stock exchange. White Castle is a famous burger restaurant that was once featured in a popular movie involving two young men on an adventure to said restaurant. It also so happens to be known as the first fast food chain. Founded in the 1920’s, White Castle revolutionized the perception that the public had of burgers. At the time, burgers were seen as low quality and were thought to have consisted of scraps and parts of animals that no one liked to eat. With White Castle setting the precedents, the McDonalds’ brothers soon followed suit, as well as Burger King and Taco Bell in the mid-1900’s. The concept of eating out became more accessible as well as more affordable to Americans. Most fast food companies at the time of emergence wanted to appease their shareholders (and still do), so many resorted to bottom dollar mindsets and business models. Majority of the companies that are similar to McDonalds have been attacked and accused of serving unhealthy food, using unethical marketing tactics to sell said unhealthy food and has encouraged obesity, if not caused it, in America. Therefore, many people will have many different ways in which they use food. Factors like geography, religion, society, and economy are basic aspects that influence our food habits and culture. Once we understand these factors, we can answer the question: why do you choose one cuisine rather than the others? Geographical Factors In old days, ancestors cultivated the crops base on local, natural resources, which affected their eating habits greatly. Climate, precipitation, soil quality, and topography are four geographical factors that influence our food habits deeply. First of all, climate affects the crop’s growing season, which is shorter in hot climate and longer in cold climate. When the growing season is shorter, people will have more crop cycles, which means the quantity of food is possibly larger. People tend to have enough food to satisfy their physical needs, and they may have extra food to satisfy higher needs, such as social needs, belongingness, status, and self-realization. Climate also affects the types of foods in different regions. For example, mango can only be planted in hot regions, and cabbage is preferred in cold regions. People usually find out that food in hot regions can be more various than food in cold regions. (Hughes, 2011). Secondly, precipitation affects the major food production. In dry and hot areas...

...Marketing Jenny McFarlen MKT/421 Diane E. O’Brien October 19, 2009 Marketing is everywhere. There is not one single day that a person can wake up and not see an item that has been publicly marketed. The food we eat, the clothes we wear and the vehicle that we take to work everyday is a constant reminder of marketing and all the effort that was put into it for that product to become popular. Most jobs today have a form of marketing used that enhances the chance of that company being profitable and popular. Marketing is not just about selling a product. In much more detail, marketing allows a producer to put their product out publicly based on factors that are relative to the product. In order to determine this, the producer must evaluate the selling area and find out things such as the needs of the people who could potentially buy their product, find out the different types of the product that might be needed, get an estimation of how many people might buy the product and find out what parts of the world would use what is being produced. Marketing is also about determining a selling price and ensuring that a profit can be made after production costs. Promotion is also important to show customers what the product is about. Competition is affiliated as it enables a producer to determining how strong the market might be (Perreault & McCarthy, 2005) Marketing can also be defined as an activity or strategy that enables products to be available to consumers. As we know, terroir is one of the most significant factors that affect what wines taste like. Since it's a combination of different natural factors, we cannot expect wines made in different regions taste the same. It explains why regions are so important to wines. Alsace, Champagne and so on, places like them have done a great contribution to French wine industry. With the help of these special wine regions, France has become the most important wine producer in the world. Alsace, which is located in the eastern part of France, is generally considered as an important white-wine region. The weather there is more like a semi-continental climate, which means in winter Alsace is usually cold and dry while it is hot in summer. Colmar City is the best place for producing vin d'Alsace because it has a sunny microclimate. Actually, it is the second driest city in France. Usually, the annual rainfall there is only 550 mm. Due to this, Alsace is the perfect place to produce Rieslings. In fact, some of the world's most famous dry Rieslings are produced there. Besides Riesling, they also plant Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Muscat. By the way, Alsace is also the only region that to produce mostly varietals that identified by the names of the grapes used in France. Because of Alsace's...

The Functions of Role in Law in Bussiness

...The Functions and Role of Law in Business and Society LAW/421 The Functions and Role of Law in Business and Society The functions and role of law in business and society is to maintain order and decency to the effect of creating an environment that is reasonable, just and productive according to the cultural perspectives of the society in which they are implemented (Scheb&Scheb, 2011; Quirk, Seddon& Smith, 2010). Without law to control the actions of those that are either unscrupulous or simply not mentally capable of understanding or differentiating between right and wrong – society would be chaotic. An excellent example of this would be where there were no controls whatsoever over the stock market and family and friends were able to freely access the material inside information of the corporations their associates worked for. This would clearly lead to an environment where virtually only the very privileged few were able to profit from stock market trades in any significant way. It would also ultimately lead to a far less lucrative market when those who were not privileged simply fell out of the market altogether due to lack of opportunity to benefit from their participation, which dropping out would very likely lead to a severe global recession. In addition to regulating and setting standards for behavior within a society, laws also regulate and set standards for how business should be conducted. Business laws set the ethical standard and expectations...
