Motivation Theories

Keys to achieving a high level of hospitality comes from the employees because they are the ones who deliver services to the guests. There are many different level of enthusiasm from every employees and guests alike but hospitality should never suffer. Front office managers must learn what motivates the employees and implement training programs to achieve the level of hospitality services the property demands.

Each employee are individuals with different needs, wants and desires personal or at work. What motivates one employee may not motivate the others. Because of this, there are different motivational theories available. Front office manager should take time to get to know each employee to figure out what motivational theory is necessary to apply for that specific employee.

Motivation is described as understanding employee needs and desires and developing a framework for meeting them (Bardi, 2007). Having both motivated, enthusiastic employees and unenthusiastic, obstinate employees, one theory will not work for everyone. A successful manager takes into account each and every employee’s individual needs to create a training strategy based on their needs. This is the Mayo theory of motivation recognizing the individuality of each employee (Bardi, 2007).

Employees that is already motivated and enthusiastic obviously will not need as much attention as those that are not. But these employees will need continued encouragement and support from the manager’s to keep up the level of enthusiasm. In this situation, Herzberg’s theory of motivation with the hygiene factor would be appropriate. This theory incorporates positive job attitude for achievement, responsibility, personal growth, recognition and advancement (Bardi, 2007).

With the unenthusiastic and obstinate employees, a different approach is necessary. McGregor’s theory X

Pricing Decisions and Cost Management

...impact of eliminating, reducing, or changing various activities. 12-5 Two alternative starting points for long-run pricing decisions are 1. Market-based pricing, an important form of which is target pricing. The market-based approach asks, “Given what our customers want and how our competitors will react to what we do, what price should we charge?” 2. Cost-based pricing which asks, “What does it cost us to make this product and, hence, what price should we charge that will recoup our costs and achieve a target return on investment?” 12-6 A target cost per unit is the estimated long-run cost per unit of a product (or service) that, when sold at the target price, enables the company to achieve the targeted operating income per unit. 12-7 Value engineering is a systematic evaluation of all aspects of the value-chain business functions, with the objective of reducing costs while satisfying customer needs. The Perception of Taxpayers Towards Gst in Malaysia

...THE PERCEPTION OF TAXPAYERS TOWARD GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) IMPLEMENTATION IN MALAYSIA CHAPTER ONE - INTRODUCTION 1.1 Backgroud of Study Malaysian taxation system is generally divided into two, which are direct taxes and indirect taxes. Indirect taxes are controlled by the Royal Malaysian Custom Department (RMCD) and it consists of four components such as excise duties, customs duty, sales tax and service tax. Direct taxes are under the control of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM). The IRBM is responsible for all policies relating to direct taxes such as income tax of individual and business, petroleum income tax, real property expansions tax, and stamp duty. From the government perception, taxation is a vital economic tool because it can be employed to regulate the economy, to invigorate economic growth through the granting of fiscal incentives as a principal aim of implementing tax policies and to provide funds for development projects (JeyapalanKasipillai, 2005). The contribution of direct taxes and indirect taxes to government revenue in 2009 amounted to RM78.375 billion (49.4%) and RM28.129 billion (1 7.73%), respectively. This shows that taxation contributes more than 60% to the Malaysian government revenue. Recently, the Malaysian government established the implementation of goods and services tax (GST) to replace Sales Tax and Services Tax (SST). The GST plan was first raised in 1988 but at the time it was considered unnecessary because the sales...
