...Electronic Surveillance of Employees Week 3 Assignment # 1 LEG 500 Law, Ethics, and Corporate Governance By Anthony McKenzie Presented to Prof. Moses Cowan February, 16, 2012 1) Explain where an employee can reasonably expect to have privacy in the workplace. The privacy rights of employees and the infringement on these rights, has caused employees to become even more frightened when it concerns their privacy, and they feel that they are losing these rights because of the advances being made in technology (Privacy in the Workplace and Conducting an Internal Investigation, n.d.). For example, these subsequent cases will explain to us more, about how the United States Supreme Court has come to establish the theory of “privacy” for the people of America (Supreme Court Decisions on Liberty 2012,). Katz vs. United States 389, U.S. 347 (1967) & Olmstead v. United States 277 U.S. 438 (1928). Some of the technological tools such as video surveillance cameras, face recognition software, and tracking software programs may be already in use by employers. In particular situations, For example, the employer may want to see closely what it is their employees are doing on company...

...Demonstrative Communication BCOM/275 May 13, 2013 Demonstrative Communication Communication is defined as a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior (Merriam-Webster, 2013). Communication is not restricted to a verbal exchange and can manifest itself in various ways such as facial expressions, or even eye contact. Non-verbal communication or demonstrative communication has been argued to be more reliable in determining the intent of a communicator (Emler, 2006). Demonstrative communication is that part of the communication process that includes nonverbal and unwritten communications. Demonstrative communication entails sending and receiving wordless messages. Effective communication is the interconnecting vehicle to any strong relationship. It is also the basis to building positive interactions in the work place or social settings. To effectively build communication you must use a combination of verbal and non-verbal channels. Verbal and demonstrative communication can work in marriage to validate a message or intent, and they can also work against each other sending mixed signals to the message receiver. There have been countless examples of verbal messages that seem to be contradicted by the body language and tone of the transmitter. Lets take some of the baseball players that were accused of using performance-enhancing drugs illegally who adamantly denied accusations, later to admit...

...Technology: Assistance or Hindrance I picked my 11 year old from the first day of 6th grade. When I was going through his backpack to sign all the papers that was sent home, I noticed an IPAD in it. I know my son does not have an IPAD, so I asked him about it. He told me the IPAD was issued to him by his teacher for all of his e-textbooks. What happened to lugging around a backpack full of huge textbooks? From smart boards, IPADs, wireless internet, and many other high tech gadgets that our public schools have, technology has changed dramatically since I graduated in May of 1998. I believe the exponential growth in technology in education is causing our students to be more distracted during class, causing school budgets to be overwhelmed, and it is causing students to loose traditional skills. First, technology in education is causing our students to be more distracted in class. Technology creates a need to multitask. Studies have shown that multitasking when learning something new or working on a project distracts from complete learning. (Study Dog, 2012) When students are using their cellphones, IPADs, or laptops in class, are they actually using them for note taking, researching topics, or other educational activities? According to a report conducted by the Chronicle of Higher Education indicates that students taking laptops to classrooms might appear to be taking notes, but actually were doing activities unrelated to class work such as sending emails or using the...

However, managers need to be aware of certain strong Filipino characteristics, which underpin personal relationships within the country. Firstly, people are extremely careful to ensure that others do not suffer embarrassment or any sense of shame (hiya) as a result of their own actions or their inability to meet the expectations of others. It is considered to be very bad behavior to criticize another in public, as this is the greatest insult that can be given. To be openly criticized in public results in a loss of self-esteem and personal dignity. Any attack on an individual's self-esteem may have to be revenged. Therefore, managers are keen to treat subordinates with respect whilst, at the same time, maintaining the dignity of the position of boss. Instructions will be given clearly and precisely and subordinates will be expected to follow those instructions with little or no discussion. Secondly, relationship bonds run...
