About the film:
Hugo (2011) is the story of a young orphaned adventurer whose determination to discover a secret, brings to light the forgotten contributions of a film pioneer.
The movie begins with various 1st person point of view panoramic shots of the Gare du Nord rail station from inside the numerous clocks found inside the rail station, while Hugo (Asa Butterfield) is shown moving around the maze of passages from clock to clock. Hugo, who fixes the clocks at Gare du Nord due to the death of his Uncle Claud, also spends his time trying to fix a broken automation machine left by his father. In addition to the automation device the only other item Hugo has from his father is a small notebook detailing the automation device. Since Hugo requires extra parts to fix the clocks and automation, he must resort to stealing from merchants at the station. One particular toy merchant named Georges Méliès (Ben Kingsley) catches Hugo trying to steal a windup toy. As payback for stealing the toy, Georges takes the notebook from Hugo and refuses to give it back.
In Hugo’s attempt to get the notebook back, he follows Méliès home and is introduced to Isabella (Chloe Grace Moretz), Georges’ goddaughter. Hugo befriends Isabella and she offers her help in retrieving the notebook. Hugo exposes Isabella to the movies, as he learns that has never been to a moving picture (we will learn that it is Georges that never exposes Isabella to films). After many attempts and persistence, Hugo is offered a deal to get the notebook back from Georges. Hugo will provide expertise in fixing things to Georges and in return, Hugo will get his notebook back. Through Hugo’s working with Georges, Hugo is able to fully

...www.spireresearch.com Men’s grooming industry Time for emerging markets to steal the show © 2012 Spire Research and Consulting Pte Ltd Men’s grooming industry: Time for emerging markets to steal the show The male grooming habit is rooted in changing norms of masculinity. Metrosexual – a term derived from metropolitan and heterosexual – refers to an urban man who pays attention to his grooming and appearance. This article explores why the male groomer segment still has plenty of room to grow in Asia and global emerging markets. The word “metrosexual” was coined by Mark Simpson in an article, where he wrote that, “Metrosexual man, the single young man with a high disposable income, living or working in the city (because that’s where all the best shops are), is perhaps the most promising consumer market of the decade. In the Nineties, he’s everywhere and he’s going shopping1.” The grooming sector has been driven by gradual changes in the shopping and self-presentation habits of both men and women. To understand why the men's grooming space is poised to be the next big thing, it is important to look at the evolution of the metrosexual man – his traits, mannerism, perceptions and desire to be presented in a manner he thinks is befitting. Where did it all begin? According to Simpson, the business of accessorizing masculinity and desirability’ 2 gave rise to a very lucrative men’s grooming industry. “Traditional men” paid little attention to looking good, but as social...

Flowers for Algernon

...Flowers for Algernon Is knowledge the key to happiness? Does the fact that you know almost everything, complete your life? Or does it make you distant to your friends and family? These are some of the main questions Daniel Keys raise in his prizewinning fictional novel “Flowers for Algernon” from 1966. The Novel is about the mentally challenged Charlie Gordon, who will do anything to learn, and become ‘a smart person’. Charlie accepts the terms of an experiment, which will triple his IQ, even though he is not told of the consequences of the experiment. The novel “Flowers for Algernon” is written in the diary form, and the story features a first person narrator called Charlie Gordon. The novel is combined of several progress reports that show the current intelligence of Charlie. As we follow his everyday life, we get detailed information about his increase in artificial intelligence. Throughout the story the reader almost gets a feeling that there are multiple narrators telling the story. Nevertheless the sudden huge growth in grammatical skills is not simply because of another narrator expressing the story, it it’s merely due to the fact that the experiment triples Charlie’s IQ. This experiment takes Charlie’s writing skills to a point, where it’s almost flawless. Having this in mind, the story in a way switches narrator three times. The story starts of with Charlie before his operation, where he’s not exactly mentally gifted. Actually he would be referred to as a mentally...

...INTRODUCTION Theory & Concept “A business has two – and only two – basic functions: marketing and innovation.” -Peter Drucker The rapid pace of change and intense competitive pressure in today’s marketplace demand that brands continuously innovate and reinvent themselves to maintain their relevance and market position. In this context, brand repositioning and other revitalization strategies have become a business imperative for battling brand erosion. The appeal of brand repositioning is further heightened by the rising costs and high risk associated with launching a new brand. Brand repositioning has received little attention in the marketing literature and has mostly been treated as a variation of brand positioning. Biel, for example, has defined brand positioning as “building (or rebuilding) an image for a brand”. The goal of positioning and repositioning strategies relates to the management of consumers’ perceptions. However, positioning focuses on the creation of band association – consumers’ perceptions of the attributes that differentiate the brand from competitive offers – while repositioning also implies managing existing brand associations. The unique challenge of a repositioning strategy thus lies in rejuvenating the brand image to make it relevant in an evolving environment, while honoring the brand equity heritage. Repositioning can be required as the market changes and new opportunities occur. Through repositioning the company can reach customers they...
