Answer each question below. Answers should be approximately 100 words per question.

1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, wikis, podcasts, photographs or pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking. By applying a set of theories in the field of media research (social presence, media richness) and social processes (self-presentation, self-disclosure) Kaplan and Heinlein created a classification scheme for different social media types in their Business Horizons article published in 2010. According to Kaplan and Heinlein there are six different types of social media: collaborative projects, blogs and micro blogs, content communities, social networking sites, virtual game worlds, and virtual communities. Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowd sourcing, and voice over IP, to name a few. Many of these social media services can be integrated via social network aggregation platforms.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society?

Social media sites have been very beneficial to our men and women serving in the military as well as their families to be able to keep in touch when using a telephone is simply not an option. They allow them to send messages and photos that can be instantly viewed. Social media benefits individuals by allowing them to get in touch with long lost friends, and allowing communication between people who may be separated by thousands of miles. Social Medias attract more customers by connecting to an audience that we can communicate with at different levels, they allow instant communication and help to promote products and awareness

...Axia College Material Appendix A Midterm Exam Answer each question below. Answers should be approximately 100 words per question. 1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes. In my eyes there are three main forms of social media today that are thriving well in society. The first is medias like Facebook and Twitter, that connect people all over the world and allow near constant updates from individual members to others. The second type of media is sites like Open Salon and Blogger which are blog sites where individuals can write and be reviewed by their peers. The third is of course YouTube, this site allows others to see certain moments in random people’s lives that can be touching or entertaining. YouTube’s basic purpose is just what it advertises, broadcast yourself. 2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society? I believe the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society is connecting people no matter the amount of distance. A lot of people who are sites like Facebook are on there to reconnect to old friends and to keep in touch with family. I believe this is the reason why business are starting to form their own pages on social media sites, to take advantage of free advertising and reach a new customer base. Individuals who create memberships on social sites often join to connect to other people who wouldn’t be in their...

...‘ THE BUSINESS OF MASS MEDIA Advertising and Commercial Culture 345 Early Developments in American Advertising 351 The Shape of U.S. Advertising Today 359 Persuasive Techniques in Contemporary Advertising 366 Commercial Speech and Regulating Advertising 374 Advertising, Politics, and Democracy Back in 1993, the trade magazine Adweek wrote about “The Ultimate Network”— something called the Internet: “Advertisers and agencies take note: It has the potential to become the next great mass/personal medium.”1 The prediction was correct, if not understated. The Internet has become a huge medium for advertisers, targeting audiences more precisely than any medium before it. Yet, none of the venerable ad agencies at that time could have guessed that an Internet start-up—Google— would become bigger than the leading multinational advertising holding companies like Omnicom, WPP, Interpublic, and Publicis. Nearly 99 percent of Google’s $16.6 billion revenue in 2007 came from advertising. THE BUSINESS OF MASS MEDIA B 343 ‘ ADVERTISING However, Google is different from the Madison Avenue agencies. It doesn’t design witty, slick ad campaigns. Instead, it facilitates the dull but effective text-based sponsored links that appear in Google searches or on affiliated sites. “We are in the really boring part of the business…the boring big business,” Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt says.2 What Google’s ads lack in creativity, they make up in precision. Google’s AdWords advertising...

Motivation Concept Analysis

...Motivation Concept Analysis Motivation in theory – Frederick Herzberg two factor theory Tomala Lewis PSY/320 6/5/2010 Angelica James Motivation Concept Analysis Motivation in theory – Frederick Herzberg two factor theory I agree with Mr. Frederick Herzberg’s two factor theory 100% and without any shadow of a doubt. There is no way any small business or large company can succeed, grow and continue prosperity in the future without the two factors Herzberg theorized. The first of two factors believed by Herzberg is Hygiene factors; Hygiene factors are based on the need for a business to avoid unpleasantness at work. If these factors are considered inadequate by employees, then they can cause dissatisfaction with work. Hygiene factors include company policy and administration, wages, salaries, and other financial remuneration, quality of supervision, quality of inter-personal relations, working conditions, and feelings of job security. The second factor believed by Herzberg is Motivator factors. Motivator factors are based on an individual's need for personal growth. When they exist, motivator factors actively create job satisfaction. If they are effective, then they can motivate an individual to achieve above-average performance and effort. Motivator factors are status, opportunity for advancement, gaining recognition, responsibility, challenging and or stimulating work, and a sense of personal achievement & personal growth in a job. The need for a business to run efficiently...

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...

Generally, those journalists do a competent job of reporting on the prospect’s record. In the case of Governor George W. Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin.
