Part One:
Being the director of a local new station, I would cover the local story first with a high recap of the celebrity death to follow. When people tune into the news, they want to know what is happening around them first. A celebrity death will make headlines on every kind of network, but the local happenings will only be the local newscast and be more vital. The park story will have more meaning to the people of the community and could affect the everyday happenings for them. With cities closing parks 3 days a week to save money, I would want to the communities to know why and how this will change their everyday lives and schedules. How was closing the parks 3 days a week chosen to save money or some other programs that could be out there. How is the closing of the parks going to affect the city workers jobs that maintain the parks? I would also want to inform the communities of why the money is being saved and what the funds are being used for instead. It would be important to inform the people of options that they may to help get the parks reopened if necessary or who they would try and petition to help with it as well.
After covering the local community story of park closures, I would cover the celebrity death with as much accuracy as I could. People will continue to talk about the celebrity death for a long time, so it can be covered after the more pertinent local story. Celebrity stories tend to be very wide spread and have enough coverage with the different outlets to obtain it by. I know that I would not want to lose viewers or ratings because I did not cover the story, so I would clearly still cover the death.
With wanting to keep ratings for my station, it is important to keep your local community tuned into your programming with stories and happenings that are closer to them. Knowing that I have a local person delivering the news makes it more personal as well where the celebrity death does not need the same kind of personal connection. Communities want to know that the stories that matter to them have some kind of connection beyond just being in their community. There are a lot of stations that are available on a nationwide or cable aspect for other news to be broadcast, and these outlets will only show stories that are on a nationwide level like or some major event that could have happened somewhere in the world.
Part Two:
The relationship between television, movies and games has grown stronger or the last few years. When a movie comes out, it becomes a video game or even a board game that could come out even before the movie. Movies even become TV shows that are broadcast on a level that reaches millions of people instead of just a few people who may watch something together or just play a game together. The Internet has made it so that people all over the world can play a game or talk about events and movies. With being able to reach such a vast audience, movies and television have become a mainstream way to voice opinions or current events. A lot of movies affect culture by using real life events to entice you and change your opinion or convert you to different thinking.
Electronic games have become a mainstream way to emulate what people watch or even having a way to escape reality with role playing games (RPG). Whether these games are based solely on fantasy or even some other form or reality, there are games that everyone can connect to each other on line or play by themselves, but when people walk around and talk, it is evident that there is a new kind of language as well. Gaming has affected our culture in many ways. It allows us to use games as training tools as well as for entertainment.
A controversial issue over video games is that people are spending too much time on them and not enough time doing the things that we should be. There are so many outlets to play games whether they are on game systems, cell phones or even the internet that they have become an addiction and totally consume people. They play them at work, home or where ever they may be and they are used to just cure boredom. This creates an issue that society is not reading or spending time outside staying in shape.

...basis over the internet. Immediate news media has had a significant effect on our culture. It allows us to get the news as it happens, and become more aware and involved. The internet would be my biggest competition, and I need to keep this in mind when making decisions for the station. The station has to try and keep up with the internet whenever possible. With this being said, I am faced with the task of deciding what story should be used as the lead story during our next broadcast. Right now I have two stories that have great potential to be lead stories. I need to come up with the solution that will benefit both the television station and the viewers. The first story is about the city council voting to close city parks three days a week to save money. With this story I would like to have as many viewers tuned in as possible, because this is an issue that could affect the lives of those who use the city’s parks. The second story is about the death of a major celebrity. I know this story will get the viewers’ attention, and it will get the station higher ratings which directly affects the station. Although, I feel the city park story is more important and relevant to my viewers, it is my responsibility to keep up the ratings of my station. My solution would be to...

Contrast Analysis

...Introduction The focus of the present thesis is the passive voice, perceived from a semantico-syntactic point of view. My primary aim is to explore the use and functions of the passive voice in English, examining the reasons which motivate an author to prefer the passive form to the active one. Secondary interest is devoted to the function and the use of the passive voice in Czech. As research material I have chosen the short stories by the American writer O. Henry and their Czech translations by Stanislav Klíma. The reasons why I have chosen the genre of a short story are that it is noted for the unity of time, place and action. I believe that due to this fact, the results of my research will give higher evidence of the use of the passive voice since the basis for comparison is unified and compact contrary to, for example, a novel. For the same reason of evidence, I explore just the translations of one translator, since everyone has his/her personal style and different way of thinking and understanding of original text. I am interested in the issue of information packaging, especially in the different ways of expressing one and the same reality in the two languages: when both active and passive versions are formally permitted, what factors favour the choice of one over other? The passive voice is a phenomenon which is involved both in English and in Czech but in unlike extent. As far as I know, the passive voice is a favourite means of expression in English whereas in Czech...

Effective up to 20 washes, depending on local conditions, the fendozin-rich net would kill mosquitoes and other bugs within 20 minutes after they come in contact with it, said officials. The nets are already available across the country and cost TK 650~700 [US$ 8-9] a piece. The nets meet the requirements of the World Health Organization and are "extremely safe" for humans and other mammals, said Saria Sadique, managing director of BASF Bangladesh. The country's first Long Lasting Impregnated Net [LLIN] plant, which has been set up in the industrial park, cost TK 124 million and has created jobs for 800 people. The plant owned and operated by Grameen Fabrics and Fashions will manufacture the nets under the brand name Interceptor. BASF Grameen Limited will market the product. In near future, this magic mosquito net will also be exported to a number of countries in the world. The plant can now produce up to 3,000 nets a day and its capacity would enhance in days to come, said Prof Yunus in his speech...

Television, DVDs, video games, the Internet, and smart phones all play a formative role in children’s development. The term ‘‘technology’’ subsumes a large variety of somewhat independent items, and it is no surprise that current research indicates causes for both optimism and concern depending upon the content of the technology, the context in which the technology immerses the user, and the user’s developmental stage. Furthermore, because the field is still in its infancy, results can be surprising: video games designed to be reasonably mindless result in widespread enhancements of various abilities, acting, we will argue, as exemplary learning tools. Counterintuitive outcomes like these, besides being practically relevant, challenge and eventually lead to refinement of theories concerning fundamental principles of brain plasticity and learning.
