When people tune into the news, they want to know what is happening around them first. A celebrity death will make headlines on every kind of network, but the local happenings will only be the local newscast and be more vital. The park story will have more meaning to the people of the community and could affect the everyday happenings for them. With cities closing parks 3 days a week to save money, I would want to the communities to know why and how this will change their everyday lives and schedules. How was closing the parks 3 days a week chosen to save money or some other programs that could be out there. How is the closing of the parks going to affect the city workers jobs that maintain the parks? I would also want to inform the communities of why the money is being saved and what the funds are being used for instead. It would be important to inform the people of options that they may to help get the parks reopened if necessary or who they would try and petition to help with it as well. After covering the local community story of park closures, I would cover the celebrity death with as much accuracy as I could. People will continue to talk about the celebrity death for a long time, so it can be covered after the more pertinent local story. ...Introduction The focus of the present thesis is the passive voice, perceived from a semantico-syntactic point of view. My primary aim is to explore the use and functions of the passive voice in English, examining the reasons which motivate an author to prefer the passive form to the active one. Secondary interest is devoted to the function and the use of the passive voice in Czech. As research material I have chosen the short stories by the American writer O. Henry and their Czech translations by Stanislav Klíma. The reasons why I have chosen the genre of a short story are that it is noted for the unity of time, place and action. I believe that due to this fact, the results of my research will give higher evidence of the use of the passive voice since the basis for comparison is unified and compact contrary to, for example, a novel. For the same reason of evidence, I explore just the translations of one translator, since everyone has his/her personal style and different way of thinking and understanding of original text. I am interested in the issue of information packaging, especially in the different ways of expressing one and the same reality in the two languages: when both active and passive versions are formally permitted, what factors favour the choice of one over other? Effective up to 20 washes, depending on local conditions, the fendozin-rich net would kill mosquitoes and other bugs within 20 minutes after they come in contact with it, said officials. The nets are already available across the country and cost TK 650~700 [US$ 8-9] a piece. The nets meet the requirements of the World Health Organization and are "extremely safe" for humans and other mammals, said Saria Sadique, managing director of BASF Bangladesh. The country's first Long Lasting Impregnated Net [LLIN] plant, which has been set up in the industrial park, cost TK 124 million and has created jobs for 800 people. The plant owned and operated by Grameen Fabrics and Fashions will manufacture the nets under the brand name Interceptor. BASF Grameen Limited will market the product. In near future, this magic mosquito net will also be exported to a number of countries in the world.
