Task 1(a)
According to Taylor (1909), “Scientific Management is an art of knowing exactly what you want your men to do and seeing that they do it in the best and cheapest way”. In Taylors view, if a work is analysed scientifically it will be possible to find one best way to do it. It implies application of scientific principles for studying & identifying management problems. In this, he proposed that by optimizing and simplifying jobs, productivity would increase. He also advanced the idea that workers and managers needed to cooperate with one another. This was very different from the way work was typically done in businesses beforehand. A factory manager at that time had very little contact with the workers, and he left them on their own to produce the necessary product. There was no standardization, and a worker's main motivation was often continued employment, so there was no incentive to work as quickly or as efficiently as possible.
Taylor believed that all workers were motivated by money, so he promoted the idea of "a fair day's pay for a fair day's work." In other words, if a worker didn't achieve enough in a day, he didn't deserve to be paid as much as another worker who was highly productive (Taylor, 1909).
Hence scientific management is a thoughtful, organized, dual approach towards the job of management against hit or miss or Rule of Thumb.
Principles of Scientific Management 1. Development of Science for each part of men’s job (replacement of rule of thumb) a. This principle suggests that work assigned to any employee should be observed, analyzed with respect to each and every element and part and time involved in it. b. This means replacement of odd rule of thumb by the use of method of enquiry, investigation, data collection, analysis and framing of rules. c. Under scientific management, decisions are made

...“Some people have suggested that understanding human behavior is the single most important requirement for managerial success.” Understanding human behavior, while one of the vital components of successfully managing an organization, is not the single most important requirement for managerial success. While it leads to better relationships, better collaboration among staff and other people in the organization, building a team that breeds creativity and productivity, there are other variables within and outside the organization that every manager must be technically equip to deal with. One of the most critical components of course is knowledge and technical skills in planning, organizing and controlling. Managers will be dealing with external factors like market trends, market competition, maintaining and expanding market niche, and even after sales and service issues. Simultaneously, managers will also deal with product designs and quality, cost efficiencies and other financial aspects, productivity, among other things, all requiring great deal of knowledge to make informed decisions. These complex decision areas are consequential to an organization’s success, becoming imperative on managers to possess profound understanding and knowledge of how the whole process works in order to effectively discharge their functions and manage the expectations of customers and achieve the organization’s objectives. Another component and equally critical in managerial success is the...

...ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR ACROSS CULTURES Conditions affecting multinational operations The people of the world are organized into communities and nations, each in its own way according to its resources and cultural heritage. Some nations are economically developed others are just now developing their natural and human resources. The conditions of work are different because of different attitudes, values, and expectations from participants. Understanding these differences and how they influence international organizational behavior is aided by examination of key social, legal, ethical, political, and economic conditions. • Social Conditions In many countries the social condition is poorly developed, there are major shortages of managerial personnel, scientists and technicians and these deficiencies limit the ability to employ local labor. Needed skills must be imported from other countries while the local workers will be prepared. • Legal and ethical conditions In judicial system, some countries practice rapid disposition of cases, in other countries cases may drag on for years. Some countries condone the practice of bribery as way of obtaining and retaining businesses others strictly prohibit it. Managers need to be aware of the possible differences in both laws and ethical values that define acceptable and unacceptable behaviors in foreign countries. ...the Requirement in the Course/Subject HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN ORGANIZATION Submitted by: SHEILLA P. DIEZ MAE – Educational Management There are several ways to define leadership. Experts have tried to define leadership using several aspects. A process that influences other people to achieve an objective and guides the organization in a way to make it more coherent and cohesive is called leadership. We can also define leadership as a process of leading people in the right direction in order to achieve goals. This gives me an idea on how will I describe my principal on how she leads us in achieving our goal in school setting. Our principal, Mrs. Maria Divina Amor C. Medina is a newly promoted principal from Obando, Bulacan with outstanding record of achievements as a grade VI teacher from Obando District. Being new to our school, Ma’am Divine (as what we call her) is a very jolly person. She always wears a smile to everyone in the school. Being a leader, she applies leadership attributes such as values, knowledge and skills to implement this process in our organization. Leadership ensures that that the organization works successfully and accomplishes the desired goals. Leadership is also defined as a process that can have a positive impact on others. Human Behavior in Organization

...Social Perception Social perception, or the way one individual views others, affects behavior within an organization. Management expert Joseph Champoux writes in his book "Organizational Behavior" that an individual's social perception can be described in terms of a "target," or what is being perceived, and a "stimulus threshold," a certain level of information that must be received in order to make a perceptive assumption on an individual, work process or any other target. Wrongful social perceptions, such as fundamental attribution error that arises when one person mistakes another person's characteristics as the cause of a negative event, can lead to problems in organizational behavior. Perceptions Affecting Motivation A worker's social perception of others within the organization can affect his motivation to complete work effectively to a large degree. Motivation within an organization remains high if a worker perceives that there are opportunities for personal development or professional advancement, if he feels capable of completing tasks correctly and is involved with various organizational decision-making and goal-setting processes. Motivation can be reduced if the worker perceives a lack of opportunity for growth, a lack of involvement or a lack of opportunities to demonstrate any creativity. This holds true in volunteer organizations as well, as described in Miami University's student leadership material, "Why Volunteers/Group Members Lose Interest." Related...

...GS204 Human Behaviour in Business Organization Midterm Examination 1. The basic approaches in the study of organizational behaviour and its limitations. Organizational behaviour study has developed over the years to address the growing, complex needs of the diverse workforce in a globalized economy nowadays. Its goals are to make Managers more effective in describing, predicting and controlling human behaviour. It has become a useful tool to analyze and investigate the impact that people, structures, technology and external environment have on individual behaviour within an organization. It has likewise become an interdisciplinary field which integrates behavioural science with other social sciences specifically to enhance the working relationships between people and organizations. As managers to become more effective, a careful and extensive study of these useful ideas and conceptual models is imperative. Hence, effective management can be best attained through understanding and use of the HUMAN RESOURCES, CONTINGENCY, RESULTS-ORIENTED and SYSTEMS approaches. One of these approaches is the human resource approach otherwise known as supportive approach. Traditionally, Managers perceive their workers as pessimistic and negative beings. ...Q1. Understanding human behavior is critical to organizations – discuss the benefits of self evaluation/self assessment as it relates to leaders today. Understanding human behavior is critical to managers at all levels inside any organization. Individual managers within the organization can especially benefit from conducting self-evaluations. It is essential for managers to be self -ware and understand how their own behavior and personality can give them a better perspective while working with others. Being self-aware allows one to recognize and improve their strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize their leadership potential. In Organizational Behavior, Robins & Judge (13th Edition) tell us that organizational behavior is the knowledge gained about individuals, groups and the effect of structure on behavior in order to make organizations work more effectively. A major goal for any organization should be to work more effectively and to continuously make improvements, this is summarized by the Japanese Philosophy of Kaizen. For an organization to strive to continuously improve the leadership and management must adapt and learn. There are many ways in which a manager can strive to improve and one of those is through self-evaluation. What is a self-assessment or evaluation? Daniel Goleman (2000. Page 80) tells us that an accurate self-assessment is a “realistic evaluation of your strengths and limitations”...

...Fundamental Concepts of Organizational Behavior In every field of social science, or even physical science, has a philosophical foundation of basic concepts that guide its development. There are some certain philosophical concepts in organizational behavior also. The concepts are- Individual differences: Every individual in the world is different from others. This idea is supported by science. Each person is different from all others, probably in million ways, just as each persons DNA profile is different. ...understand the behavior of man. In our daily life we face situations that make us think that we are different people, with different characters and attitudes. Companies are mostly composed of human beings, all with different ways of thinking and perhaps an interpretation of things very differently from ours. This makes me wonder, if a company's vision is that all work in harmony to achieve the same goal?, then how important is understanding the behavior of people in an organization? I am convinced that the study of organizational behavior is a tool that will give us a way of understanding human behavior within an organization in a systematic and scientific way.
